This book is pretty hard to find for a reasonable price. I enjoyed most of it, as it built up the characters a bit more than the game does in some places. It starts with a brief introduction to Sierra and the Police Quest series. The rest of the book focuses on novelized walkthroughs--you can follow them to complete the games, but they're written in the first person from Sonny's perspective. All necessary maps are included.

The point lists are the most frustrating part of the book. For some reason, they are alphabetized, so they are almost impossible to use. Rather than placing the actions in order, it's one long list starting from the things you "answer" to the things you "write" but with no connection to the chronology of the game. Point lists are given for both the EGA and VGA versions of Police Quest 1, which is nice, but still not particularly useful because of the format.

This book was good for the completionist in me, but the Police Quest Casebook (Second Edition) is the better choice if you're only going to get one--it includes all four games (the Official Book of PQ only includes 1-3), has more character development in the novelized sections, also includes straightforward walkthroughs, and has user-friendly point lists.
