Wayne Walter Dyer was an American self-help author and a motivational speaker. Dyer earned a Bachelor’s degree in History and Philosophy, a Master’s degree in Psychology and an Ed.D. in Guidance and Counseling at Wayne State University in 1970. Early in his career, he worked as a high school guidance counselor, and went on to run a successful private therapy practice. He became a popular professor of counselor education at St. John's University, where he was approached by a literary agent to put his ideas into book form. The result was his first book, Your Erroneous Zones (1976), one of the best-selling books of all time, with an estimated 100 million copies sold. This launched Dyer's career as a motivational speaker and self-help author, during which he published 20 more best-selling books and produced a number of popular specials for PBS. Influenced by thinkers such as Abraham H. Maslow and Albert Ellis, Dyer's early work focused on psychological themes such as motivation, self actualization and assertiveness. By the 1990s, the focus of his work had shifted to spirituality. Inspired by Swami Muktananda and New Thought, he promoted themes such as the "power of intention," collaborated with alternative medicine advocate Deepak Chopra on a number of projects, and was a frequent guest on the Oprah Winfrey Show.

Almost 20 years ago, during a particularly shitty time in my life, a period I spent mostly in bed, listening and weeping to Bob Dylan's "Blood on the Tracks," and having my two dogs lick the tears from my face, I was introduced to Wayne Dyer.

I would go long periods of time without eating, a fact that didn't seem to bother the dogs, but disturbed my two cats enough that they found a nest of voles and would catch and behead one and leave the headless rodent on the empty pillow beside my own.

When I got hungry enough that the bloody voles began to look appetizing, I decided I'd better get out of bed and find some food. At the salad bar at the nearest grocery store, I met a girl who introduced me to Wayne Dyer.

How she knew WD was what I needed at that time, I'll never know. Maybe she prescribed Dyer to all she met. Maybe she was psychic. Maybe she saw a kindred spirit, a fellow seeker, when she looked in my face.

We met the next day for coffee. She'd made a bootleg recording for me and, for the next month, I would fall asleep to Dyer's booming barritone, a comforting voice offering me positive affirmations that normally would have caused me to snicker, reminding me too much of Al Franken's finicky self help guru, Stuart Smalley. But these were desparate times and Dyer was what I needed in my weakened state.

I hadn't listened to Dyer or had him enter my conscious mind in these nearly 20 years until I heard last week that he'd died. I decided I'd check out one of his recordings, listen to his voice one more time. I listened to the recording on my iPhone while digging up weeds in the backyard of a rental property my wife recently bought, and felt transported.

With my hands in the dirt, watching an earth worm wriggling in the damp ground and later a snake slither behind a rose bush, I remembered Bob Dylan singing about his own heartbreak, two dogs that kept me warm at night, two cats that tried feeding me when I wouldn't eat, and the self help guru who wanted the world a little less jaded, a little less angry, a little more at peace--and I thanked all of them for reminding me I wasn't alone.

I had read this book by Dr Wayne Dyer several times since it’s inception in 2005 and will probably read it again and again. Every time I pick it up I end up getting something more out of it to help make my life a little more enjoyable. Dr Dyer offers 101 inspirational ways to help transform your daily living through his wisdom and insight. Even though it is a short book it definitely is worth taking the time the read it - at least once.

Good book for a meditation with a long list of personal improvements. It felt good to process, but also overwhelming and harder to implement. It would be better as a slow study choosing one item from the list and focusing attention. Good overall ideas shared.

This is an excellent audio program full of great reminders on how to transform your life. Its really short, about 60mins, designed for easy listening on a recurring basis. There is nice background music playing as he covers each tip which pulls from many different spiritual traditions, self-help books and quotes.

When you get in a cycle of worry or mind-noise this is a great audiobook to put on to redirect your thoughts into an area of positive ways of being and goals for living a better life - A life that will leave a legacy.

I loved this! Listened to it twice on a road trip - it's only about an hour long. And I want to listen to it again. So many pearls of wisdom.

I grew up on Wayne Dyer (my mother had health challenges and she was very big into self improvement in order to manage those challenges so we always had Dyer laying around the house) and while I don't agree with everything he says/writes, I do appreciate his ideas and like to come back to Dyer every once in a while.

Like any self improvement book, I figure if I can get one good/new idea then the book was worthwhile and if I can't get one new idea then at least I'm reaffirming what I already know.

This was a quick one - really just 101 things/ideas that you can do to improve/transform your life. I don't agree with all of them but there are definitely a few that I like and also, it's nice to just spend time with positive ideas and thoughts, changes your whole day when you start the day with positivity.

Wayne W. Dyer was a force of nature. Leaving a job on the teaching staff of St. John's University in New York circa 1975, he filled his car trunk with copies of his first book, the Erroneous Zone, and toured book stores around the country. He became world renowned. His lectures turned around lives.
Every so often, I listen to a Dyer book to remind myself, "What you think about expands."
This is a short book that moves fast. I recommend it for the time crunched, as I would recommend his longer works to help people grasp his straight talk to a fulfilling life. Thank you, Dr. Dyer.

It does tell you what it tells on the title.
It's not a one time read and I loved it.
What I admired the most is the idea that you're not your country, you're not your race, you're not your religion, even your name. You're an eternal spiritual being without any labels. It makes me think that everything is so simple and what you gotta do is just spread love around.
I loved all the transformative ideas that the book itself gives to me.

Full of short statements or paragraphs about how to make lasting changes in one’s life: forgive oneself and others, tell the truth, exercise, etc. This is not one of Dyer’s best CDs, but it does contain good reminders about the benefits of doing internal clutter clearing physically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually, relationally, and financially on a regular basis.

This is one of my favorite books. Often I put it on Audible and listen to it to fall asleep. It brings me such peace and raises my vibration. I love the background music on the audiobook and of course love all of Wayne Dyers books. It is short and sweet and I tend to fall asleep before I am halfway done.

I appreciate this audiobook. Is it incredibly novel, mind-blowing advice? No, but... what self-help books are novel, anyway.
I appreciate the presentation and the organization. There is some religious commentary, but mostly of the "don't be a bigot" variety with some "trust God" that was palatable.

I expect I'll be returning to this book in the future, as a check-in or reminder.

This book claims to offer 101 ways to transform your life. There’s some undeniable eternal truths and perspectives in here and ideas to live a more calm and spiritual existence. However, I’d say the batting average is more like 40-50 rather than 101. Regardless of what this book tells you, never suppress or doubt your divine gift of discernment.

Hokey. Reminds me way too much of the Saturday Night Live character Stuart and his daily affirmations rather than some concrete examples of self help tips. The tips also tend to get repetitive after about #25 or 30.

Pourquoi parler de Dieu dans un truc de méditation? La religion et la spiritualité ne sont pas nécessairement connectées. Ce n'est pas pour moi.
