Mark and Steph have a relatively happy family with their young daughter in sunny Cape Town until one day when armed men in balaclavas break in to their home. Left traumatized but physically unharmed, Mark and Steph are unable to return to normal and live in constant fear. When a friend suggests a restorative vacation abroad via a popular house swapping website, it sounds like the perfect plan. They find a genial, artistic couple with a charming apartment in Paris who would love to come to Cape Town. Mark and Steph can't resist the idyllic, light-strewn pictures, and the promise of a romantic getaway. But once they arrive in Paris, they quickly realize that nothing is as advertised. When their perfect holiday takes a violent turn, the cracks in their marriage grow ever wider and dark secrets from Mark's past begin to emerge.
I thought overall that the premise was great. Off the bat I was intrigued by the cover of my specific copy, as it hooked me in with a key in the shape of the Eiffel Tower upside down. The Apartment was a wonderful story, and great idea, it’s just the way the book was executed and written is what I didn’t enjoy. I did really like the dual POV, and really seeing into both of the characters minds. What I didn’t like was how something would be happening, and then all of a sudden it would cut to something else, or the end of a specific action. I feel like this would be a great movie if turned into one, and I definitely have my fancast for it. Overall I enjoyed it, but wished I liked it more as I certainly had different expectations and higher hopes.
Although I liked the different POV’s of both characters and seeing how they’re thinking and feeling with each situation that has happened to them. I truly did not feel the thriller throughout the story there was a lot more flashback in the story nonetheless. It was also kind of bleh that towards the literal end something dramatic happens and then it ends with the wife I guess what it is implied as her sacrificing someone but I don’t know still good.

I gave this a 3 star because i understood that it was one of those books where you spend 85% of the book building up to something and then have a plot twist or surprise or secret. But it just felt a little slow. I enjoyed the plot and the characters and i would recommend if you want a creepy and spooky read!
