I'm Going to Read® (Level 4): Pizza and Other Stinky Poems

Rate this book
What stinky fun: these entertaining verses talk about smelly stuff, like onions and skunks--and good things, such as pizza and peanut butter too. From "Whoever Sau-sage a Thing?" to "Fresh Fish," it's pure aromatic amusement sure to appeal to any kid's sense of humor. Youngsters will eat up these tasty rhymes.

Really fun book about pizza and other things! A great way to introduce children to poetry; I think it is so important that we start to reintroduce reading for pleasure to younger generations. I am surprised at how many people I know who no longer read! We have to get children interested in reading again!

Love that this book is a bit silly and it's mostly about food that children know. The pictures are descriptive and students can relate and understand the poem with no difficulty. This book can be used in many ways and comes in different formats so children can have easy access to it.
Definitely a must-have in the classroom library.

This book contained numerous poems about different foods and drinks. I liked this book because it was funny and it had various types of poems. Some of the poems were just a sentence or two while others were two pages long and some of them were rhyming but others did not. If I were to use this book in the classroom, I would use it as a reference book for students. When doing a unit on poetry, I might leave this book out for students to refer back to when creating their own poems to get ideas about different types of formatting and remind them that not all poems rhyme.

Wow! What a cute and funny book. It is a very easy read for the younger students to get a taste of poetry. I think it is so cute how he tells the reader the foods he likes and does not like with the face expressions to go with it! The rhymes go so well together, and they crack you up. My favorite line would have to be, “Full: Here I stand all fat and chunky. Ate a duck and swallowed a donkey!”. The illustrations are super cool too, the colors and detail in every picture on every page. Super fun book to read and a great poetry book to introduce poetry to your students.

I found this book on epic when looking for poetry for students. This book includes many silly poems about many things such as pizza, tomatoes, meatballs, ice cream, etc. They are all written in typical verse and include many aspects of traditional poetry such as rhyme and rhythm while also possessing the ability to gain student interest because of the humor they possess. I think this would be a great book to use in early elementary (1-2 grade) when introducing poetry. I feel like students are often bored with poetry and can't relate to it at all so this would be a great way to catch their attention.
