This is probably the first of LK's books that didn't leave me longing for more. Infact I wanted this to end after 100 something pages.
The characters were neither interesting nor original. Jessica/Julia was so annoying and her instant love for her long lost husband whom she resented all her life was downright ridiculous. Whatever happened to good old logic? Lesser said about Damon, the better!
Logan's book is way better than this one.
Maybe 2.5 stars for the occasional humorous touch with William's antics and Kleypas' never failing happily ever after against all the odds.

Will someone PLEASE tell me what I'm missing with Lisa Kleypas?!

Why is she so popular? I've now read two of her books, and I gave both 2-stars. This one... I could barely force myself to 50%, and I only bumped up my rating to 2-stars because of the narration from Rosalyn Landor.

The plot was ridiculous, and I'm willing to suspend a lot of reality in romance, but this was insta-lovey and bordering on nonsensical.

Someone, anyone, help me out here! I can't find a Kleypas that I like, and I think I'm about to give up.

Lisa Kleypas yet again manages to enchant me with another Unforgettable and Severe Love-Story in "Somewhere I'll Find You" about a married couple that has never seen each other (how UNIQUE is that!).Damon Savage with his controlling nature and brooding looks and the independent and stunning Julia Wentworth-their fate has been sealed ever since they were born, but unknowing of each others identities Damon will steal a kiss from Julia (never knowing that she is his mysterious wife) a fateful evening where their future soon will collide together.

This book was so W.O.R.T.H every S.I.N.G.L.E second of my time.!

I love the way Julia and Damon fall in love with each other-their romance was simply EVERYTHING i would wish myself of-all burning passion with a blistering and all-consuming love.Their connection were always there from the start, before even seeing each other-and they resented it.While Damon used very single advantage to build up his family`s business empire,Julia sacrificed everything for her freedom, and she has established herself as one of the greatest actresses in England. It had taken courage to accomplish what she had prospering—with nothing but her own talent. She had made tremendous sacrifices and undertaken serious risks to attain her goal and for that i simply had to admire her.

Damon fell fast and hard for her and even realized he loved her before she did.Knowing that she is his wife he did everything to win her-and it was a beautiful journey to watch. But damn how stubborn Julia was!She even went as far as accepting marriage to another man..and Damon had to take the last ultimatium...hihi ABDUCTION!That`s my hero!

His younger brother William Savage made me laugh out as hell, haha how i hope for him to find the love of his life,i wonder if he has his own story somewhere..?
Logan Scott is a character i greatly came to like-jeezus what a sexy actor! He will have his own book in "Because you are mine" and i look DAMN forward to reading it!

YIKES: I REGRET THIS BOOK.

Damon Savage and Julia Hargate were illegally married as children because childhood wasn't that hip back in the day. So when they're old enough to realize they're married, they react by becoming a surly tight-fisted asshole (Damon) and running away to join the theatre (Julia). Eventually Damon develops boners for a hot actress who he doesn't realize is his lawfully wedded bride. Then all hell breaks lose and this one ends with a literal kidnapping and assault COMMITTED BY THE HERO that ends with a HEA.

1. A pause, to let that all sink in.

2. YEAH, THE HERO HIRES SOME DUDES TO KIDNAP THE HEROINE THEN ASSAULTS HER AND TELLS HER IT WOULDN'T BE RAPE BECAUSE SHE WOULD WANT IT.

3. Why can't I give a book negative stars.

4. In addition to the obviously overwhelming gross cocktail that is the above: this was just a fucking mess. It was so poorly written and so poorly characterized and so poorly plotted. It's just really, really, really bad.

5. SO BAD.

First in the Capital Theatre historical romance series revolving around Scott Logan's theatre. The couple focus is on Damon, Lord Savage, and his never-met wife, Julia Hargate.

My Take
What a load of crap! Kleypas uses the flimsiest pretext for her conflict between the never-met husband and wife. Please. There is no legal precedent outside of royalty for marrying a four-year-old off to a seven-year-old and having it be valid. Then there's the overly dramatic writing...talk about a drama queen.

Oh please, Julia thinks she can give in to him, make love to him with no consequences. Even if the "marriage" had validity, as soon as it's consummated, they can't get an annulment. How stupid is she? As for the passion Julia suddenly exhibits? No, Kleypas hasn't given me any reason to believe that Julia/Jessica is so carried away with passion that she'll give in to Damon. It's the latter half of the 1820s and I'm supposed to believe that a duchess can be an actress on the stage. Ah well, it's as believable as the rest of this story. Not.

Then there's the scene where Julia is hiding in another room when her husband confronts her mother. Oh, please. Put some effort into it, Kleypas. Get out that thinking cap. This scene was just embarrassing in its utter idiocy. Any respect I may have had for Julia's character went right down the tubes.

All of Logan's passion is caught up in the theatre and his marriage proposal to Julia is strictly business...supposedly. I have my doubts with that last impassioned scene.

Talking about going to his estate...in London. I don't think so. House, townhouse, yes. Then Damon asks Julia to "have supper with me tonight at my terrace" in Bath. Again, I don't think so. It would be either house or townhouse, again.

Someone needs to proofread this. There are so many misspellings; the final blow was "Know what?"

I appreciate the efforts Kleypas expended to promote Jessica's need for independence, not wanting to be under the autocratic authority of a husband. And it was nice how she finally got Damon to understand that he would lose her if he continued to be the man her father had been. But the presentation of the story is clumsy and overly dramatic. I will try another Kleypas in an attempt to be fair, but I ain't holdin' mah breath.

The Story
Struggling to make a living, Jessica Wentworth finagles an audition and is encouraged by Mrs Florence to pursue it. Julia/Jessica soon rises to the top of her chosen profession, happy with her independence, but missing...something. Then she encounters her husband for the first time at a weekend country house party.

It's fate that Damon, Lord Savage, had met her when he thought she was a minor actress. When he remembers her from that May Day fest, he becomes even more intent on spending time with this woman and forces a meeting on her. There is something about this woman and Damon pursues her. And Jessica retreats.

She retreats to yet another secret visit to her mother who gifts her with a piece of jewelry, one that Damon will recognize.

The Characters
Julia Hargate, a.k.a., Mrs. Jessica Wentworth, a.k.a., Lady Julia, Marchioness of Savage, refuses to kowtow to her father's arrangements for her marriage and runs away at her first opportunity. She finds a way to live and work, pursuing the activities she escaped to throughout her childhood. Her father, Edward, Lord Hargate, is an unbending, iron-fisted tyrant with an ancient regret while Julia's mother, Eva, is a timid woman who resorts to illness to avoid the overbearing manner of her husband.

Damon, Marquess of Savage, heir to a dukedom, has been sacrificed on the all-too common altar of financial expediency. His father, the duke, has squandered the family fortune to the extent that they are in danger of losing everything. A disaster averted only by the duke's arranging the marriage of his seven-year-old son to Lord Hargate's four-year-old daughter. Young Julia's dowry provides the seed money to rebuild the Savage fortune — how this worked when the father played ducks and drakes with it and Damon is only seven, I have no idea.

Lord William is Damon's younger brother and fills out the character list while Lady Pauline Ashton is the requisite slut who provides the comic relief...oops, I mean the dramatic contrast with the virginal Mrs. Wentworth.

Logan Scott, the preeminent actor/producer in London, owns the Capital Theatre and has a reputation for bringing the act of acting back to a more realistic portrayal.

I was expecting to find that Mrs. Florence was Lord Hargate's long-dead sister, but instead she is simply the voice of reason for Julia.

The Cover and Title
The cover is pretty enough with its lilac background and the watercolor effect of the Italian feeling landscape with its arched bridge crossing the river.

The title is too, too accurate as Damon is adamant about finding his lost wife.

2.5 to 3 stars. This was an okay read, but as with other early Lisa Kleypas books I've read, I didn't enjoy it as much as her more recent books. This was published in 1996 and it did indeed feel a little old school, especially the climactic scene near the end, when there was a little too much violence for my liking, quickly followed by a sex scene which frankly felt somewhat awkward in the context.

I didn't really like the leads, Damon and Julia, that much. I think Kleypas' drawing of her characters has improved over the years in her later books. I didn't fully connect with these two. Logan Scott, a secondary character, was enigmatic and interesting and perhaps there was a little bit too much of a focus on him, to the detriment of the main storyline.

I didn't mind the 'married in childhood trope', but I struggled to believe that a duchess could be an actress. It just was totally unbelievable to me, especially once everyone knew she was a duchess. Just no.

So overall, it was a bit of a 'meh' read for me, and has confirmed my opinion that Kleypas' earlier books aren't really to my taste. However I have great respect for her as an author and I absolutely love some of her more recent works.

This was an October 2020 BOTM for HRBC, 'betrothed in childhood' trope.

I wasn't enthralled, but I was at least fine with the book for most of the way...but then the one thing that ruins a romance novel for me happens

From page 215-216 on my e-reader:

Julia has just been abducted by some ruffians and brought to a drunk man stinking of whiskey.
"I'm going to ruin you for any other man." ...
"Are you resorting to rape now?" she asked coldly...
"It won't be rape."
Julia was frustrated with his selfish arrogance.

Um. Seducing an unwilling woman so that she is physically turned on, even giving her an orgasm or two does NOT make it not rape. This passage sounds like the villain in any other book. I liked the hero enough for most of the book, but then in the heat of passion all he talks about is possession and owning Julia etc. It's not romantic. She wants some form of independence and he insists that she does not have the option to say no. I don't enjoy reading about these sorts of abusive relationships, no matter how happily they turn out. Yes, she doesn't give up her life at the theater, and yes she is happy at the end, but I don't want to read her being brainwashed before that.

Sigh. [image error]
Another sexy story from my favorite author,Lisa Kleypas.
After a big disappointed by a very low historical romance, I have an extra ordinary expectation from this book. [image error]

Damon bermaksud mengakhiri hubungan mereka (over one dinner with a dashing Mrs.Wentworth).

Good, one ++ point for you Sir ! [image error]

" I have no regrets about what happened between us - I hope you feel the same "

"Keep running from me, and I'll keep finding you"....

Of course I do" [image error]

Perfect hero...sigh...
Damon menawarkan one dinner, Julia menolak, dia merasa gak sanggup lagi ketemu aDamon tanpa menunjukka perasaan nya kepada lelaki itu .. *hey, come on Julia, he's your husband !*

Setelah kematian ayahnya, Duke of Leeds, Damon jadi Duke.

Seberapa besar perjuangan Damon mempertahankan Julia? Bagian terakhir ini sangat seru dan membuat deg-deg an...so, better read yourself.

This book was kind of unfocused and all over the place. I feel like we missed out on some key scenes between Julia and Damon, and the ending didn’t feel earned as it seemed like they just suddenly decided to stop insisting on the things they had just five minutes ago felt were super important.

I liked this book. Overall, I did. I actually loved some parts of it. What I found confusing is some of the writing felt....inconsistent/disjointed...literally as if some parts were written by her and some weren't?? Like the usual Kleypas magic was watered down in some parts. I enjoyed the MMC: Damon was one of those amazingly determined alpha possessive totally smitten Heroes that I absolutely ADORE. It was a well crafted, unique plot with an independent heroine that would likely appeal to many. The content itself was sublime. Is it worth a read? Of course!!...it's Kleypas❤️❤️ Some of the writing just didn't overall resonate with me like her other books have.

I'm usually not a fan of her early writing but Ms. Kleypas surprised me with this one. The premise was interesting but I felt that the romance was very superficial. I didn't fall in love with either MC and Julia/Jessica was too fickle in my opinion but they story kept my attention. Even though I didn't love this I don't regret using my audible credit on it.

4 - ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

"How strange that we both wanted to be free of each other for so long...and just when we are, all we want is to be together again."

Somewhere I'll Find You is a heart-fluttering love story between Julia Hargate, a daughter of a wealthy man whom fled the confines of her family and society to follow her dreams of becoming an actress, And Damon, Lord Savage and the future Duke of Leeds, a man weighed down by his responsibilities towards his family and their fortune.

Julia and Damon's fathers arranged a marriage agreement involving them when they were only children; Julia being 4 and Damon being 7.

"I was sold for the price of a name, and Lord Savage for a fortune. Father secured a title for his daughter, and the Savages were saved from financial ruin. And all they had to do was sacrifice their firstborn children."

Both grew up dreading the matrimonial chains wrapped around them and the inevitable future in which a day will come when Damon must claim his wife. The free-spirited Julia decides to break those cruel chains and flee to the dazzling world of theatre despite the shadows of shame following her for choosing an unfitting profession for a well-bred lady and thus the reputable and glamorous actress known as Mrs. Jessica Wentworth came into existence.

In a twist of fate, May Day celebrations lured Damon out of the confines of his family's honey-colored castle towards the village bursting with laughter and the sound of music. A particularly radiant girl caught his eye and for a moment believed her to be a sprite that appeared from the Forest and would fade at any moment.

Comically, the garland of flowers flew from her head and landed at the feet of Damon... Julia and Damon meet for the first time as strangers and the the sparks of attraction encompasses them both.

"Why did you come outside, sir? Was it to take the air or watch the dancing?"
"To find you."

Little did they know that both of them are Husband and Wife.

To Damon, he is intrigued by this forest sprite and wishes to rid of the burden of Julia Hargate not only for the sake of his future and his desire to marry for love, but the fact that both of them were victims that were robbed of their choice to choose whom they want.

"She would live as Jessica Wentworth, and bury all traces of Julia Hargate—and the secret that had haunted her all her life."

I absolutely enjoyed this book and the fact that I've read Because You're Mine, the second book in the Capitol Theatre duology, I've already met Julia and Damon before and I liked them a lot so I knew I would adore them and enjoy their love story in this book.

I am pleased to say that I was not disappointed, not at all.

The Goodreads rating might've lowered my expectations, but I was captivated from the very first page until the last page.

Lisa Kleypas never disappoints when it comes to the characterizations of both her heroines and heroes. Julia was an amazing heroine, the epitome of empowerment and independence. She was a woman who knew what she wanted, that is until Damon comes into the picture. Damon was a dreamy man with a passionate heart despite his stoic and cool exterior.

Their chemistry made my heart flutter and I'm constantly rooting for them to take a step towards one another. Both torn by not only a future not of their choosing but also the fact that they are polar opposites in their interests and aspirations. After all she worked for, Julia cannot simply give it all up to become the wife Damon and Damon will not want to have a wife flaunting herself on stage to the world.

I enjoyed the presence of the secondary characters in the book especially Logan Scott's intimidating presence. Being a member of Capitol Theatre, Julia is always interacting with Logan, a man known to be cold as fish, and he always puts his theatre first. It was fun to see this side of Logan since I've witnessed his transformation in the second book. William, Damon's brother, was such an entertaining character that stole all the spotlights every time he made an appearance.

What I truly loved about the Romance here is that both Julia and Damon clashed until they found the missing pieces that would make them fit as a couple. They did not sweep their issues and secrets under the rug. It was admirable to see that Damon did not degrade Julia for the profession she chose. They are such a perfect couple despite their flaws and their clashes every now and then.

The only issue I think the book suffered from is the pacing sometimes. It could've been shorter but the I felt thag the author kept prolonging some scenes in the story.

Overall, this was such a fantastic romance read that I recommend if you love a sprinkle of angst of the romance.

I definitely prefer Lisa Kleypas' later works. Her earlier books tend to be a bit bonkers and often don’t feel very period appropriate. A duchess continuing to work as an actress? That really stretched believability for me. Historically, actresses were viewed not much better than prostitutes, so it’s hard to buy into that setup. Still readable if you're in the mood for something over-the-top, but definitely not a favorite.

Based on audiobook - 3.5 stars

I enjoyed the atypical setting of this story, based on a "working girl" historical romance (and I'm not talking prostitutes). The heroine, Julia, chose a career instead of being a daughter of the aristocracy. She became an actress. She was somewhat forced into this career after being disinherited by her father, but since it was a passion of hers, not unbearable. She adopts a stage name and works with a acting group where she is required to solicit donations from the ton. I thought it was interesting how the actresses are considered little better than prostitutes in Puritanical eyes. The double standard that it is OK for men to fool around, but woman must be chaste before marriage. So for an actress to "kiss" on stage is whorish. Obviously since if they can kiss any ol guy, they must bed every guy off the stage too, right?

So the plot of the story comes along when Julia is soliciting donations at a ball, she runs into her husband, Damon...who doesn't know who she is since they were married by their parents when they were both barely out of diapers. Since Julia is using an assumed name, Damon doesn't have a clue that this is the woman he has been searching for for 3 years in order to inform her that he was obtaining an annulment to their child marriage. Now, since this is a romance novel, you know the two people who shouldn't fall in love, do. Add in a power-hungry, money-hungry mistress and a woman who is emotionally scarred by a father who didn't care for her, you have all of the key elements of angst that any good romance novel should have.

I really wanted to like the book more and honestly, through about 80% of the book I was into it. It was only til the end that I lost my love with it. I felt that Ms. Kleypas was trying to convince us that our hero/heroine should NOT be together, because they wanted different things in life and wouldn't be happy settling, even though there was this strong physical attraction. I found myself sad that I wanted them to break up. Of course, it is a HEA, so the H/H do come together. I just felt like there was all of this work to tear them apart and a very shoddy stapling job putting the two pieces back together again. I found myself looking forward to Logan's story before the end of this book was out, because I needed a romance where I was actually rooting for the couple.
