Es werden schreckliche Geschichten über Innsmouth Town erzählt, ein einst wohlhabendes Fischerdorf, das heute in Armut steckt. Die Ursache der Zerstörung wird auf eine von einem Schiff ausgehende Epidemie zurückgeführt, die die Stadt gnadenlos heimgesucht hat. Klatsch spricht jedoch von Pakten mit dem Teufel. Nur wenige von ihnen wagen es, in diese Stadt zu reisen, wie viele Ausländer, die nach ihrer Reise nach Innsmouth nicht zurückgekehrt sind. Trotz allem fühlt sich der Protagonist dieser Geschichte, ein Reisender auf der Suche nach seiner familiären Herkunft, von der Stadt angezogen und beschließt, sie im Vorbeigehen zu seinem endgültigen Ziel zu besuchen. Howard Phillips Lovecraft, of Providence, Rhode Island, was an American author of horror, fantasy and science fiction.

Lovecraft's major inspiration and invention was cosmic horror: life is incomprehensible to human minds and the universe is fundamentally alien. Those who genuinely reason, like his protagonists, gamble with sanity. Lovecraft has developed a cult following for his Cthulhu Mythos, a series of loosely interconnected fictions featuring a pantheon of human-nullifying entities, as well as the Necronomicon, a fictional grimoire of magical rites and forbidden lore. His works were deeply pessimistic and cynical, challenging the values of the Enlightenment, Romanticism and Christianity. Lovecraft's protagonists usually achieve the mirror-opposite of traditional gnosis and mysticism by momentarily glimpsing the horror of ultimate reality.

Although Lovecraft's readership was limited during his life, his reputation has grown over the decades. He is now commonly regarded as one of the most influential horror writers of the 20th Century, exerting widespread and indirect influence, and frequently compared to Edgar Allan Poe.

Resulta que ahir a la tarda, pel grup del club de lectura, van recordar que teniem la pròxima sessió i jo confiada de ser un llibre curtet, ni me l’havia començat a llegir. Així que avui ha tocat fer un sprint i llegir-me el llibre d’una sentada. Mai havia llegit Lovecraft, i nose com serà la resta de llibres, però aquest s’emporta una boníssima puntuació.
A vegades, la linia de la realitat no dista tant de la ficcio

I read the illustrated copy. And it was exciting and full of atmosphere. A gripping read. The artwork was amazing and I felt like it helped me getting into the story without distracting me from the actual words.

tatsächlich eine eher schwächere Geschichte. ich habe allerdings das Buch mit den Bildern von Baranger gelesen und die waren wie immer der Hammer.
