This collection contains, in addition to stories and poems, an interview Borges gave to Maria Esther Vázquez, “Borges as He Is.” For me, this turned out to be the most wonderful part of the book. Borges talks about symbols and images that often appear in his stories: labyrinths, mirrors, sabers, tigers. About his jealous love for Buenos Aires. And about how he does not believe (although for a person who has read him a lot, this will seem disingenuous) in the repetition of history and in endless cycles of rebirth.
Quote:
DANTE GABRIEL ROSSETTI
I have been here before,
But when or how I cannot tell:
I know the grass beyond the door,
The sweet keen smell,
The sighing sound, the lights around the shore.
You have been mine before..
