正统论是中国史学史上的一个重要概念，历来讨论热烈。饶宗颐先生费时五年，深入研究，穷其原委，成就鸿篇。《中国史学上之正统论》分为通论、资料两大部分。通论部分包括十三章，大体上按照时间先后细致梳理历史上有影响的、不同形式的正统之论。资料部分包括三部分，按时间先后，列举历代论述正统论的文字。编纂形式独具一格，既是史学专著，又是史料汇编，两者有机结合。本书一九七七年香港龙门书店初版后，即引起学界关注，是饶宗颐先生的代表作之一。
