Yay another Nora Roberts book!

Temptation was a book that I dove into for a certain challenge. For some reason, I feel like any Nora Roberts book could work for a reading challenge. Plus, it doesn't hurt that they entertain me either. In this book, you will meet Eden and Chase. Eden is basically doing everything in her power to prove her own father wrong. She runs a summer camp for girls and Chase runs his family's apple orchard.

Low-key, and off topic, but I have NEVER been to an apple orchid. I seriously want to go - are they fun?

Back to the book, Eden is my spirit animal. Or maybe my long lost sister because we both hate mornings. If I could sleep in every day - trust me I would. Every time I hear my alarm clock in the morning, I plot it's death. Fortunately, it's still alive right now.. so you never know when the funeral will be.

Other than that, this book is beyond cheesy but short enough to enjoy it all.

3.5 stars - This had a lovely nostalgia factor of old skool category romance, but with a higher quality of writing and creativity than we sometimes see. I particularly enjoyed the summer camp/apple farm setting, and loved seeing Eden stick it to Eric. An enjoyable Nora all around!

I started this one and was soon wondering why the fuck it was so rapey?!?

Hero meets heroine. He must be blind cos he first thinks she is a kid.
Forward a minute. She has fallen with him on top. He does not let go, kisses her. Likes the fear in her eyes. Thinks that he will gladly take what is not given....wow wow wait, damn you are a rapey asshole aren't you

Checks date.
1987...right, that explain it. Pass

Very cute, summery read, and I'd be lying if I said I didn't imagine the heroine as a young Goldie Hawn from the 80s.

2015 TBR Challenge: We Love Short Shorts!

Genre: Categorical Romance
Heat Level: Just kisses
Why is it on my TBR bookcase? There is always at least one Nora Roberts that needs to be read.
Final Grade: A-

It shocked the hell out of me how much I enjoyed this 1987 Silhouette reprint. I don't know what line it was originally published in but it felt like a Silhouette Special Edition, mostly because our heroine, Eden, is the co-owner of a summer camp for girls and our hero, Chase, runs his family's apple orchard. Also there's a dog and a mischievous plot moppet.

You can read the blurb elsewhere, but basically the premise is that Eden is using the camp as an escape and as a way to prove herself after her father passed away leaving her flat broke and the subject of society gossip. Chase finds Eden climbing one of his apple trees in the orchard bordering the camp and sparks ensue. Picking her from the apple tree was NR cheese at its finest.

Eden started out as kind of a dud but she grew a backbone as the story went on and I found myself cheering for her. I like a heroine who can stand up for herself and I'm always a sucker for a "pick yourself up when you're down" kind of romance. Plus, she hates mornings and I completely sympathize. Because this is a) a categorical romance and b) published in the 80s, we don't know that much about Chase other than he has "seafoam" green eyes, lives in an awesome house with a giant dog, and finds Eden frustratingly desirable. There is no information on his motivations or back story.

Luckily, the book was short enough that everything worked for me and I enjoyed the comeuppance that the "villain" got at the end. I felt like Eden's thoughts and feelings towards Chase were fairly well developed, but I was a little lost when it came to why Chase was in love with Eden, other than he enjoyed the chase and that she was able to put her big girl panties on when it counted. It was a little lacking, but I feel like that's typical of this era of romance so I wasn't turned off by it.

This was a very quick, enjoyable read. If you like old Nora Roberts, apples, summer camp, and spirited children, you'll probably like Temptation.

I read this book a very long time ago, and I vividly remember how very much I loved it, and how special this was to me.

I am not sure that if I reread this book now, I would like it as much as I did. And tbh, I don't want to. I like having fond memories of this book and cherishing them. I don't know why I enjoyed it so much, but it touched my heart. Probably because it was a very new and unique story line.

So this review is being written purely from the happy memories it left behind.

I loved the setting and the premise of the story. I loved the heroine, I really admired what she was doing, she was so strong. I loved, loved loved the hero, his bossiness, his intensity of his wanting of the heroine, and his rudeness. He was such an amazing alpha hero that even though I read it almost 6 years ago, I still remember him and how much I was attracted to him. I loved the apple orchard, it gave such a fairy tale, surreal feeling to the story, and I loved the scene in his house, and what came - no, I actually didn't like what came after, her getting mad at him - HAHAHA the makings of a very picky heroine hater even at the tender age of 15 HAHAHAHAHAHA xD

Well, I don't really remember the ending, all I remember was I loved the content of this book. Once again, I'm pretty sure that if I read this book again, I wouldn't like it as much. So, therefore, I will not read it, I want to protect the good memories I have of it.

Apparently I have read this book before... Unlikely for me, I did not remember anything about it. Now I know why...

The story line was very simple. A spoiled, rich girl looses everything after her father dies. To make her living she runs with her friend a summer camp for little rich girls. The camp runs for the whole summer - weeks and weeks looking after the same girls (?) At this point I didn't think much of their parents. A two week summer camp is great, but one that lasts 2-3 months! a little over the top.

There she meets her neighbour - a good looking, rich young man.

Simple.

I found the characters very shallow and not well developed. The book was written well enough, but it had hardly any substance, and in one word - "forgettable"

If I had to sum up this book in one word it would be...YAWN!! I was so bored I stopped reading at one point but recently decided to finish it because I paid for it. This book really had a tough time keeping my attention. This was the first Nora Roberts book I've read but I will give another one of her books a chance. Any recommendations?

I just could not enjoy this book. The heroine is argumentative throughout the entire story, have no idea why the hero wanted her. Also, I didn’t care for the narrator. Happy reading/listening!

Temptation is a short, straightforward romance novel. Eden, once pampered and now penniless after the death of her father, is trying to find her purpose while investing all her money and time in a summer camp with her best friend. The summer is complicated once she meets Chase Elliot, who owns the nearby apple orchard. If you are a fan of Nora's early works, then Temptation fits the bill. Well, it was a little better than the last Nora Roberts that I read. At least the main female character was stronger and almost convincingly determined to make it on her own. She blew at the end though and gave in. Typical plot, formula writing again. And, some inconsistencies that made it confusing to read. For example, the camp was in the west, according to the story. That's all that it said. The reader is left unsure whether it's just west of Philadelphia where the main character came from, or really out west. It's made clearer towards the end, but not by much. Then the main male character notices how tanned the main female character's legs are. Yet the female character mostly taught horseback riding at the camp and took care of the horses. She wouldn't have been wearing shorts that much. I know horse people and even on the hottest days of the year, they wear breeches - in other words, long pants. Eden has invested all she has left into running a girl's summer camp with her best friend. Her father suffered a heart attack that took his life all to soon. When he passed he had made some bad investments and Eden had to sell just about everything to pay off the debts she incurred.
While running this girl's summer camp there is one girl who likes to push limits and boundaries. The camp was allowed to use the lake that is owned by Elliot's apples. Chase Elliot the owner, his land is next to the camp. one day Roberta that troubled child and 2 of her friends crossed onto his property an climbed up into his apple trees. Eden had to go after them and upon sending them back to camp realized Roberta left her hat in the tree. That marked the events that came after of Eden and Chase meeting and Eden being to stubborn and afraid to fall in love again after her fiancée eric left her after her fathers death because he couldn't chance his family name being tied to her fathers "bad investments."
will eden get the chance to fall in love again?

I listened to the audio version of this book on the commute to/from work. A decent light romantic read. A little predictable but nonetheless good light hearted entertainment read. would be great to add to your pile of holiday reads over a summer break.

I have read 3 of Ms. Roberts stand alone books in one day. I found this one a heck of a lot better than one of them. No sex every five minutes. This one had a story! Lo, and behold! It was a nice story for a change, no matter how stereotypical were some of the characters.

I did, however, have issues with male main character kissing the poor counselor on practically immediate first meeting. It seems that is a theme Ms. Roberts tends to play on, the whole strong male basically smugly knowing he will 'have her'. Well, that might appeal to some people who swoon at the whole Rhett Butler crap, but for me I found leaving out the kiss would have allowed far more tension to the female's thinking, especially since he had her pinned under him!

I did start to enjoy Chase's character after around the halfway mark when he finally leaves her be! Did Ms. Roberts realise she was making him into a stalker, and a boor, and then decide she ought to rein that character in? I dunno! All I know is, the whole thing of many of her novels is the women get all tangled up in knots - No, i do not want him! Oh, wait a minute, I can't live without him! Oh, no, hang on a tick, changed my mind, he is an ass. Sheesh....

I did notice however many many scenes and wording so alike in some of her later books I stick to my original idea (and I mentioned it in another review) that she puts scenarios, names, places, and plotlines in a hat and draws out what is needed, then writes a book. Heck, she probably by the seems of things, has one for exact scenes and words which go with that scene!

Not a bad book, I must admit I did enjoy it. It took me back to my holidays in USA in the summertime in the mountains, so I give her points on the descriptions.

Campsite Camp Liberty – 6 cabins, stable, mess hall – 1st summer; bordered by lake and apple tree farm

Eden Carlbough: - ex-socialite; her father passed with gambling debts necessitating her selling everything; she no longer takes life for granted; she invested in the camp, and as junior partner there over the summer to run the horse program, books, and help where needed; She is learning to rely on herself; her luke warm fiancé left her, not wanting to deal with the scandal;

Chase Elliot: Eliot apples everything – juice, sauce, champagne, wine, etc; wealthy, lives in great-grandfather built home amidst apple tree; a bit grumpy when approached about the girls summer camp; alone, manly, bossy, trying to be sensitive;

Candice ‘Candy’ Bartholomew: best friends Eden; school teacher; making her dream of a summer camp come true; supporting and loving her friend;

Eric Keeton: ex-fiance; he doesn’t have a clue…

Aunt Doddy: wanted to and still wants to care for Eden – and at end of summer visit (with Eric) is relieved to see her niece is finding her own;

At begin of summer, Eden falls into Chase’s arms when she falls (misstep as climbing down) out of one of his tree – where she was retrieving hat one of the camp girls left when had snuck into orchard; attraction… he tries to be intimidating and challenges her…

And on and off through her summer of learning independence they connect – sometimes for kisses, sometimes as adversaries… he wants her to give into him before he admits his feelings and is vulnerable first…

By end of camp… all is well…

Not bad, this was one of Nora Roberts' earlier books, a category romance. Her full length novels are much better. That being said, one of my favorite Nora Roberts is a silhouette romance called 'Best made plans'

Getting back to the story, Eden is a rich girl who fell on some bad times. Her father's death comes suddenly, and while she is grieving,she finds out they are broke and needs to dispose of all their assets to pay off debts. Amidst all this trauma, her jerk fiancé breaks off with her a couple of weeks before the wedding.

Good thing for Eden, she has a super good friend who runs a summer camp and hires her to help out as a counselor. Working at the camp gives Eden a sense of self worth and independence. She meets Chase (H) since he owned the adjoining property, an apple orchard. They are very attracted to each other, and Chase wants to pursue the attraction, however, Eden is wary of committing herself again since she has just been burned.

Of course in the end they resolve everything to have their HEA, including a confrontation with her slimeball ex. Nothing too in depth takes place since it was a very short book. Just nice and sweet.

This was another fantastic Nora Roberts book, a very enjoyable and entertaining book to read. Nora Roberts is truly a talented storyteller. In Temptation we meet Eden Carlbough who has a horrible year she grew up in wealth and privilege as a well known socialite thanks to her family name and reputation but everything changes for her when her father Brian Carlbough passes away from a fatal heart attack and learns about his debts bad investments, mortgages, short term loans, she has to sell the family home and liquidate his assets everything to cover the debts if that isn’t bad enough after losing her home, her steady income, her standing in society her fiancé Eric dumps her because he never loved her he only wanted to marry her for her family’s name and reputation when that’s gone he is too. Looking to make a life for herself she invests in her friend Candy’s girls camp Camp Liberty and working the summer there as a horse riding teacher and camp counsellor. She’s desperate for this to work as every last cent she has to her name is involved in the camp. She struggles to adjust to a new lifestyle and deal with a bunch of girls including Roberta a bloody monster but hilarious antics. Eden comes across Chase Elliot while up in his tree in his apple tree orchards retrieving a hat, and snacking on an apple. Chase Elliot is in love instantly when he has Eden literally fall into his arms she is his temptation . After their first encounter including a passionate kiss they can’t get each other out of their minds and he is determined to make her love him, but he knows she’s been hurt and wants to show her the magic of dreaming again. I loved this book I thought Roberta was a hilarious child but with a good heart, I loved Eden and Chase, I loved the character growth of Eden during the duration of the summer camp finding herself, her independence, her direction in life. I laughed so hard when Eric and Chase were acting like two posssessive dogs over a bone concerning Eden. I loved the happy ending I’m a sucker for a happy ending. I’ll definitely be re reading this book in the future.

Eden Carlbough was a carefree socialite engaged to be married when her father died. Eden had to face hard facts because her father had lost all his money and was in debt. Eden sold everything and invested in Camp Liberty, a girls camp, with her best friend, Candy. She meets Chase Elliott who owns an apple orchard and business next door to the camp. He comes off grumpy but he's entranced with Eden. She's stand offish with him. He sees moments of sadness as they get to know each other. This is a good story about a woman figuring out who she is and what she wants and a man who will let her do it.
