Robyn received a book from her big sister and immediately fell in love with Cinderella. Sprinklings of magic, deepest wishes come true - she was hooked! Picture books with glass slippers later gave way to romance novels. When she was older, she wanted to write one.

However, in junior high, Robyn hit a stumbling block - a disheartening grade of one out of ten for a book review. Confused and hurt, she asked her hundred-and-thirty-year-old English teacher why the low mark? The wizened schoolmarm sniffed, "You obviously had a senior do it for you." Thankfully Robyn's business teacher was a honey.

Following a fifteen-year career behind the scenes in television, Robyn knew the time was right to pursue her dream of becoming a published author. Late in 2004, she received a phone call from a London editor. She'd submitted a manuscript to the Sweet line, which were featuring lighter, sexier stories to be released under the Tango banner. The editor was very interested in her story, but for a brand new line.

Robyn didn't stop smiling for a week, but sometime later learned her revised manuscript hadn't hit the mark. Then she received another call and another request for revisions to a second manuscript! That didn't sell either. On a third manuscript she received a very long, very detail email, asking for, what would turn out to be, a complete rewrite. Having torn out most of her hair, but with 13 contest finals in 2006 (including winning the Golden Pen and Where the Magic Begins), she finished the rewrite then contacted a New York agent. That wonderful agent took her on, and Robyn sold in a matter of weeks, first to Silhouette Desire, then Modern Heat (Sexy Sensation/Presents) with a two book deal! She is currently writing manuscript number fourteen.

Robyn lives with her own modern-day hero on Australia's Sunshine Coast with their three little princesses, as well as two poodles and a cat called Tinkie. She has majors in English literature and psychology, and loves new shoes, worn jeans, visits to the theatre and lunches at picturesque Moffat Beach with her writer friends.

I wasn't that keen on reading this book. I am not into sportspeople as a rule, particularly race-car drivers (Sorry, they do nothing for me!). I mainly read this because it's part of the Notorious Wolfes series and I didn't want to read the series out of order.

I ended up liking it more than I thought. Alex had more depth than I expected, and I really liked Libby. Alex as a race-car driver is a metaphor for trying to outrun the pain in his past. Eventually he comes to realize that he has to slow down and face the ugly emotions from his past. Ms. Grady got the anatomy and physiology facts right, and kudos to her for that. It added credibility to Libby's being a physiotherapist. There is a nice twist with Libby that adds impact to this story. Overall, this was good but not great.

I liked Libby's backstory a lot.

I would have liked to see more of the Wolfes in this installment, because that's why I enjoy this series, the family dynamics. On the other hand, I appreciated a closer glimpse at the family through the eyes of Alex and to see how that terrible night that changed the whole family impacted him in particular, especially as Annabelle's twin.

All in all, this was a good book. The romance was well-written and I felt the chemistry and feelings between Alex and Libby. Both had character depth and their emotional angst had an impact on me. Fundamentally, I just didn't like this as much as the other books, and I don't feel that for me it's a four star book. Pretty close though. After all, I liked it more than I thought I would, and Libby's character kicked this one up a notch more for me. I am excited to read Annabelle and Jacob's stories.

Overall rating: 3.75/5.0 stars

It brings me absolutely no joy to say I hated this book. I can't think of any book I wanted to love more than this book. More than anything, I wanted this to be a heartfelt story with a positive portrayal of disability so I could write a glowing review to counteract the ignorant, hateful and all around offensive reviews it received from thoughtless readers.

Unfortunately, it's a horrendously poor portrayal of living with a disability and a shitty book to boot.

The author projected her own revulsion at the thought of living in a disabled woman's body to create a sad, pitiable character in Libby just to provide an opportunity for angst. Libby never gets to define her disability, or her body for that matter, for herself. Everyone else in the book decides that for her. She has no self-esteem, no dignity and no individuality. She's a receptacle for every stereotype able bodied people have about physically disabled people. This isn't a story about a woman with a below the knee prosthesis, this is an able bodied woman's fantasy of being swept off her feet by a wealthy, gorgeous man despite being less than "perfect" herself. Libby's disability is just a prop, a concept the author lazily appropriated as shorthand for vulnerability. It's offensive as hell.

Fast on the heels of the wallpaper Bollywood star comes the wallpaper amputee physiotherapist.

Book #4 of the Bad Blood Harlequin series is titled "The Fearless Maverick" and is the story of ubermasculine (seriously, that's how the heroine thinks of him on first meeting) multi-millionaire playboy and race car driver, Alex Wolfe.

What he races is anyone's guess (Formula, NASCAR, smash up derby, go-karts???) but there's tons of money involved. Alex crashes his car, has a spectacular wreck and partially separates his shoulder. Apparently he is distracted from his race by thoughts of his sister and really shitty childhood (see books 1, 2 and 3 in this series of 8). His doctors say 6 weeks off, but this will mean he'll miss too many races! He needs some physio, stat.

Enter the heroine, Libby Henderson, a former champion surfer who now makes her living as physiotherapist to the superathletes of the world. Or Australia, which is where the book takes place. Now, I did a bit of trolling the internet about race car driving for this review and although there was tons of mentions of races in Europe and the US, there was barely a mention of Australia. Inconvenient for the race car aspect of the plot but necessary for Libby, the quintessential Aussie surfer girl.

Barbie Libby has a secret. She was swimming near the Great Barrier Reef with a girlfriend when she was attacked by a shark, losing a leg from the knee down (I think? The book wasn't really specific. Don't ask me which leg, neither. I don't even think the author knows for sure.). Her fiance Ken, a fellow champion surfer, dumped her afterward and she has given up on love.

So, what follows is what I like to call a toothless version of Days of Thunder, only no bad guy, no Robert Duvall and no race at the end. Alex needs to race, she has to sign off, he spends the first half of the book trying to get into her pants and convince her to give him the ok to drive. He hears about her accident, she tells him she hasn't been in the water since and now we have the setup for some big sappy emotional moments.

Right?

Excuse me for a sec while I get up on my soapbox.

Granted, I read this quickly. And yes, it's a Harlequin, much maligned by other romance readers, myself included. And, finally, it is a short book so there are definite limits to what the authors have to work with.

But, for crissakes, do we really have to have characters with disabilities/attributes/ethnicities being used as a freaking PLOT DEVICE? Man, this really has me hopping.

It's like what I said about the last book, The Restless Billionaire, starring Mumbai Barbie:
the heroine was so wallpapery that if I was from Mumbai myself I might be offended. I mean, really, if you want to have the heroine be from another culture you can't just take Barbie and colour her skin, give her henna tattoos and call it a day. India has a completely different culture folks, they aren't just exotic looking Brits.

This book has a heroine who happens to be an amputee. An excellent idea, I thought at first. She would have empathy for her clients, understand elite athletes and exactly what is at stake when they are injured and help them deal with a career-ending injury. I thought it would bring a whole different angle to the romance - both from the perspective of the physical beauty of athletes and how they view themselves and as a woman. It blows "OMG he'll see my cellulite" right out of the water, and I was interested to see how the author would deal with it.

Well, she doesn't. No mention of it. Once introduced as a gimmick to to give the heroine a secret and an injury to give her something in common with the Hero, it might as well have been a birthmark. No mention of how she deals with it, nothing about her prosthesis other than the fact that she has one. Apparently she works, swims, sleeps and has sex with it on, too, because there is absolutely no mention of what happens to it when she does all of those things WHAT. SO. EVER.

Of course this begs the question, "But to an amputee it's just how life is, and part of us, and no big deal." Granted. But, the same as a Hero with sleep apnea who sleeps with a Darth Vader breathing mask, if you introduce it, you have to deal with it. To use apnea as an example, you can't tell us he has it and uses a CPAP mask, but then never talk about how it impacts the H/h.

In the case of this book, how does she run to the door in her nightie in the middle of the night? Does she put the prosthesis back on? Crutches? What? She doesn't sleep in it, does she? Shouldn't she take it off before Hero carries her into the surf? Aren't those things really expensive? Wouldn't it get wrecked? What about making love? What if you clunk him in the back with it when your knees are around your ears? Isn't it just easier to unstrap it when you take your pants off? Doesn't it get sore when you're on your feet all day? There's a lot of upkeep involved with an amputation, I've read.

Oh, God, I'm ranting. (climbs down from said soapbox)

Come to think of it, this whole thing was wallpaper imo. Wallpaper race car driver, wallpaper amputee, generic plot, forgettable characters. A few tidbits about the rest of the siblings to maintain the continuity of the series, but otherwise completely skippable for anyone reading it.

I'm putting this series away for a bit. The first two books were so well done they were a surprise to me. Sadly, the next two were standard Harlequin fare, distinguishable from the stacks of Harleys I read when visiting my favourite Grandma 20 years ago only by their offensively wallpaper heroines.

2 stars. Mostly because it managed to annoy me so badly.

Alex is a famous race car driver aiming for his third World Championship title, when he has an accident on the track. The doctors won't let him drive unless he gets an okay from a physio therapist. His answer to that: find a female that he could bribe/seduce into declaring him fit. That didn't go as planned. First Libby is not a kind of person accept bribes and won't do anything that could later on destroy his career. And next to that he starts to fall for her. Throughout the book he treats her wonderfully, especially when they first make love. But then in the end he manages to screw up masterfully. Twice. I know that he has issues from his childhood, but it still bothered me.

Libby knows what Alex is going through, she was a World Champion in surfing, when she had an accident that changed her life dramaticaly. The worst lesson she learned from that that some people, especially the men she was dating, won't stick to you if it gets tough. It takes time to start trusting Alex, but she couldn't resist him. When he more or less betrayed her she was suffering.

If nothing else, Alex did manage to patch thing up between him and his twin Anabelle. But because of the ending that I didn't like:

My favorite quote:
Oh, there won’t be much need for clothes,’ she said, stopping before the front doors. ‘On your part, at least.’

Alex Wolfe is a famous race-car driver and Anabelle's twin(their father attacked her). He because of lack of concentration and thinking about Jacob's return is involved in a car-crash and needs therapy. Our heroine Libby is a therapist but that's not all she is, she was a world-class surf champion with a champion fiancee when she had a terrible accident that ended her career and damaged her when it came to men. But she is happy in life and has moved on, if not found the courage to go back to water. She is someone who stands up for herself and when Alex hurts her she walks away. Alex is a great hero, the most well-adjusted Wolfe. He understands why Jacob did what he had to do and feels guilt for what happened to his twin. He treats Libby wonderfully and opens up to her and tells her about his past, it is Libby who is more reluctant. The relationship progresses wonderfully. He does something stupid but when we see him think about it, it isn't really that. I loved this book, it so well done.

The story begins with the hero Alex, a famous racing car driver, being involved in a crash after becoming distracted with his memories of his dark childhood, caused by learning about his eldest brother Jacob's return. Due to an injury he is told he will not race for a while and will need physiotherapy treatment and sign off before his return. Alex's solution to get back to racing as quickly as possible is to find a [female] physiotherapist who will not be able to resist his charms, in the hope he will be able to convince her to sign off his injury early.
Alex gets more than he bargained for when physio Libby, the heroine, turns up and refuses to dance to the beat of Alex's drum. Libby is an ex Pro Surfer, after losing her leg in an accident she took control of her life an retrained as a physiotherapist and specialises in sports injuries. She still hasn't fully come to terms with her accident and finds it difficult to trust. Libby can see exactly what Alex is trying to do and doesn't back down, they begin to develop feelings for one another as they open up to each other.

This book is in a different setting that the previous ones, it's set in Sydney. I really liked the change of scenery, which was described beautifully. Libby was a great female character, she had the perfect mix of honesty and inner hurts, both written flawlessly. It was also a refreshing change to have a disabled female character, as well as very brave, and once again this was written beautifully and with sensitivity, the accident that caused Libby to lose her leg was shocking, I actually gasped out loud! I had a bit of an up and down relationship with Alex, I started off not liking him but I grew to like him as the story progressed, he was certainly complex and this was very entertaining to read.
One of the things I liked most about this book was the development of the relationship, it was built over a period of time and the characters feelings were able to develop in a way that felt very believable.

Fearless Maverick is from Mills and Boon Modern, new series BAD BLOOD and it would also release as Harlequin Presents. There are altogether eight volume in this series which track the lives of a powerful dynasty, where secrets and scandals never sleep, The Notorious Wolfes.

FEARLESS MAVERICK is one brother’s story by the fabulous Robyn Grady.

Dare-Devil, bad boy, Alex Wolfe lives for the thrill and excitement of racing and winning. But unfortunately this is all threatened when he is injured during a race and must take some time off to recuperate. Unwilling to admit defeat Alex will to do anything to get back to the world of racing, even if it means seducing his Physiotherapist Libby Henderson.

Unable to pursue her dreams any longer, Libby has now devoted her career to helping elite athletes get back into shape to pursue theirs.

From the moment Libby walks into Alex’s house, she can’t deny the sparks that fly between them. And the sexy maverick isn’t making things easier for her, as he challenges her attraction to him at every turn.

But will Libby be able abandon her professional veneer and let Alex see the insecurities that lurk within and will Alex be able to stop running from his past and hiding behind his cars long enough to trust Libby?

I would definitely like to read the other stories in this series as the Wolfe Dynasty turned out to be so interesting with hidden pasts and skeletons in their closets!

Robyn Grady has always written books that enthralls her readers. Fearless Maverick is no exception with characters that leap of the page and holds you captivated. FEARLESS MAVERICK is sexy, sensual, filled with tension, heartbreak, secrets, scandals and sizzle. A definite page turner by the ever fabulous Robyn Grady and a wonderful piece to the puzzle, that is the Wolfe Dynasty.

No wonder this won the Ruby for Short Sexy Category. Engaging, lovable characters who are falling in love but have serious problems to overcome. A wounded hero and heroine who have it in them to save each other makes an emotionally satisfying and heart lifting story. I'll be rereading this book.

Just a quick reading some days ago.

Sebelum akhirnya, tentu saja, dihantam badai konflik khas kisah romance: salah paham karena salah saru pihak terlihat belum siap berkomitmen jangka panjang.

Libby pun terluka lagi.

Ketika luka lama kembali terbuka, bisakah kita memaafkan?

Tapi yah that"s me...

I'm fans of speed-racing-driver hero and Alex is gorgeous. well, after reading 3 books in this series (I am not reading in sequence anyway) I found that Alex is most open-up guy ,like easily tells stories of his awful childhood to Libby.

Libby is prim and proper. Libby isn't type of person that pry in other person's business and that made me fonds of her :).

Their story is quite smooth , not too demanding from each other.
So yes, this is good and light romantic & sweet read.

More of the notorious Wolfes saga. In this part, racecar bad boy Alex Wolfe is distracted when he hear's from his twin, Annabelle. That distraction leads to a crash and injury that requires he seek out physical therapy. None other than a former World Surfing Champion, Libby Henderson, is commissioned to come to his aid.

The sparks ignite quickly, but Libby has a secret, and a fear of letting herself be hurt again. Taking a chance with Alex, she would have to decide if she could face that pain, only to find, Alex has more damage than she does.

A very nice story.

Happy reading

Where The Sand And Asphalt Meet.....d;)

I loved this!! The h was a feisty, spunky, modern girl who had to rebuild her life after tragedy struck. She wasn't looking for love, but when it raced in 100 mph, she took a chance and wouldn't settle for less than everything. The H used his racing career as a means to escape his dark childhood. The H was a good guy and he cared about the h. After some soul searching, and meeting his past, he realized there were more important things than a checkered flag. Excellent.... I will read this one again.....d;)

I really enjoyed this. Any story that makes me wonder how they will work it out is a bonus. Alex is a racing car driver who gets injured. He needs to get fit enough for his next race so enlists the help of physiotherapist Libby. They both have their issues from the past and how they are dealt with here is believeable and not predictable. Sweet at times. This was my first read of a Robyn Grady book and won't be the last.

Solidly enjoyable. Both characters felt fully realized, with interesting, unique back stories and details. The conflict that kept them apart felt fresh, unique, and compelling.

It's held back from being exceptional, in my opinion, by some nonsensical arguments. There were times when I was just as confused about what Libby (the heroine) wanted as Alex (the hero) was

Although I loved this story, I hated the ending. I was so disappointed in the heroine. She just raced to him when he called and slept with him. I know she took a stand afterward and walked away but it still bothered me. Otherwise, I'd like to read more from this author.

DNF, the dude's relentless violation of her stated boundaries was so repulsive I had to stop reading. She specifically says "Do not touch me ever again." and his response is to invade her privacy and then pursue her to her home and refuse to leave until she sees him.
