Treasure of Love

I was a little worried when I started reading this book, knowing the story was about Jack who was pretty much an asshole in the first book. I definitely didn't like Jack' character in Wings of Love so had no idea what to expect here.
I needn't have worried. The Jackson in this book seems a completely different characters to the character we were first introduced too. Some time has passed and Jackson has definitely mellowed in his attitude and there are no signs of his previous intolerance. "Jack had had a hard time dealing with Mac's sudden change in lifestyle, but eventually he'd come to accept it, and if he was honest with himself, was a little envious of their loving relationship." In fact its rather fun to see Jack get teased as he clearly develops feelings for Dax.
It was nice to get an update on Mac and Brad, to see where their relationship was taking them, and to have them play a role in this story.
It's quite an interesting tale with some mystery and intrigue as Jack's boat is hired for a trip to find treasure. While he and Dax are falling for each other and Jack is dealing with his sexuality, they have to find the treasure and ward off the bad guys.
There is some similarity with the first book - similar lines and a shared gradual romance. In both books, one character is only just realising they are gay and the other isn't prepared to have a relationship unless they are fully acknowledged by the other.
Once again, the love is pretty instant and the sex is pretty amazing between the men with 'blinding flashes of light' and 'angels singing' - lucky Jack and Dax! There is fun, there is humour and there is some drama which all-in-all made for a enjoyable story.

Treasure hunters need good maps, good hunches, and a lot of determination to find their booty, and Dax Powers has both when he charters Jack Cameron's dive boat. In Treasure of Love by Scotty Cade, Dax starts by looking for gold but finds a great deal more.
Both Dax and Jack are alpha kinds of guys, who start out with friction. The back and forth over the treasure diving trip makes for some great reading; they growl at each other to cover up the attraction, which is mutual, to Jack's great surprise. Poor Jack gets a lot of flak from his crew/friends Mac and Brad about this – paybacks are hell, but such fun for the reader. The relationship unfolds more gently than it starts out, and kudos to Dax for not pushing too hard. He pushes just hard enough:
"―If all I need to do is go on a tirade to get you to kiss me, look out, Jack. Your life is about to become very confrontational."
They do find their treasure ship, too, using seriously unsafe diving practices – twice they nearly run out of air, no one thinks to leave spare tanks below, and the words "safety line" or similar do not appear anywhere -- and salvaging the valuables is suddenly the least of their dangers. The shadowy danger materializes with explanations – a LOT of them, that seem reasonable for modern day and really weird for 120 years ago. The day is saved though, through an outside agency that had not previously appeared in the story and seemed tacked on.
The style of the book, unfortunately, doesn't flow very well: there are huge chunks of exposition, some unnatural sounding dialog, and a lot of explanations of the "as you know, Jack" variety to convey information that could have been worked in more naturally. The POV is not stable – it can go for pages in one person's POV, only to flip for a sentence or two and then back. The occasional forays into a true omniscient POV worked to convey menace, and I don't consider those a problem, but really didn't like the dizzy-making quick trips through other heads. The heads all had similar names: Jackson/Daxton/Dax/Jack/Mac/Brad.
The love story was the best part here; Cade writes good relationships, not only between lovers, but with friends. I wish the adventure had matched.

I’m true, I like romance but I’m not really the adventurous novel type; I usually skip really quick through all the crash-boom-bang scenes to arrive to the one where the two main characters are alone, dealing with each other and their feelings. When I read the blurb of this story, the relationship between Captain Jack and treasure hunter Dax, I had the preconception that these two alpha men were too stubborn and strong to give me a sweet romance… I was wrong.
Sure Jack and Dax clash at first encounter, but then Dax decides to play the romance ace instead of being stubborn; he unexpectedly kisses Jack and from that moment on, he remains open to Jack’s attempts, without pushing too much, but leaving the other knows he is interested. Dax is openly gay, when instead Jack has never once considered himself bi-curious. Jack is not closeted case, unless you don’t consider self-conscious behaviour. He is not homophobic, even if he was not so accepting of Mac and Brad’s love story, mostly since Mac was his former brother-in-law and I think Jack felt like Mac was betraying his sister, and Mac’s wife, memory. His sister was dead, but having her husband falls in love for another man was not easy to accept.
Once Jack overcomes his reticence on regard to Mac and Brad’s relationship, he was also able to see they were happy; and that a love story between men was not only possible but also fulfilling. And so when he is giving the chance with Dax, he is more ready to consider the possibility than before.
As I said, this is mostly Dax and Jack’s love story; the adventure side of the novel is there, but it’s not really intruding their relationship, and actually it develops quickly, and quickly ends, almost all in the last chapters. I have to say I prefer the novel like this, I enjoyed a lot Dax and Jack’s love dance, and I think Dax adopted the right strategy to conquer skittish Jack.

Let's get the niggle out of the way, first, shall we.
I really don't care about the characters. It's probably one of those ocassions where I don't click/feel the chemistry with the characters presented to me (hey, it happens!! seriously!). I think the romance is flat. I don't think Jackson's monologoe/musing regarding his sexuality is amusing. In fact, I skip almost all of the sex scenes. I find the romance is a bit superficial and I don't really believe Jack and Dax have good enough basis to actually fall in love. I basically don't care enough, and that is the issue. On top of that, I actually find Mac and Brad - the characters from Wings of Love -- a bit annoying and pushy, in their attempt to "push" Jack out of the closet.
Having said that, the treasure-hunting part is VERY exciting. I find myself enjoying the research, the actual preparation, the diving, until finding the wrecked ship. I can imagine the scenes, it feels like an action (suddenly I remember Jessica Alba's movie *lol*). That part saves the book for me, although I still cannot give it more than my usual so-so stars.

Reviewed by Jamie: They say don't judge a book by it's cover, but the eye-pleasing cover of 'Treasure of Love' gives any potential reader a clear taste of what's in store. This is a falling in love story, very much set on a boat in the water. If you don't like reading about boats and diving expeditions, then you may find yourself skimming over the finer points of the detailed and well re-searched plot.
The main character is Jack, a stoic, shy man who ends up hiring his boat out to a pair of treasure hunters; twins, Dax and Dona. The attraction that builds between Jack and Dax who start off irritating and hating each other is tense and quickly heats up into a steamy affair.
This is all while the small crew, including Jack's own brother-in-law and his partner are hunting for a shipwreck that should contain enough gold to set them up for life. The interaction and banter is light and amusing, while the setting is picturesque.
Again, if boats and treasure hunting aren't your thing, then this may not be the story for you. But if you love boats and the thrills experienced by diving on wrecks with buried treasure all wrapped up with handsome men falling for each other, then this is the book for you.

I love it when I can learn new things while reading fiction. The scenes in which Scotty Cade writes of treasure-hunting and diving are so well written I felt as if I was taking the dive with them. Being as obsessive as I am, I had to check out treasure-hunting articles and even watched a few documentaries on the subject. I could so imagine, while watching the programs Jack and Dax in their wetsuits....the excitement of discovery and even the fear.
Treasure of Love blends just enough suspense with just enough romance. The characters were well developed and though this book had the underlining tone of GFY which I normally do not like, I could feel the connection between Jack and Dax and the struggle Jack had in coming to terms with his sexuality felt real.
I highly recommend this book for those who love diving , treasure-hunting, suspense, sprinkled with a little romance.

I thought at first it was because i was drunk when i read it, it seemed that bad. So in my not drunk state i read it all AGAIN this morning..and yeah it was still THAT BAD! I feel kinda like i am being harsh, but it was one HOT MESS!

This is another excellent book by Scotty Cade. In my opinion, it is the best one yet. It is very well written, with just the right amount of romance and suspense. Keep up the good work Scotty!

Tremendous improvement from the last book. Maybe because I don't know anything about treasure hunting? In any case, I found myself less judgemental of this book. I really liked both Jackson and Dax (though Dax was my favorite). One of the best things about this book was how openly gay Dax was. There were parts that almost made me want to laugh because it seemed comical, like a skit made for a cartoon. "The Adventures of Captain Cameron and the Gay Teasure Hunter." I can see it now.
In all seriousness, though, I did like this book much much more than the last. I felt like there was a real connection between Dax and Jackson. Even though the book did still feel rushed, it felt like it had been reviewed and edited more than the first, or maybe the author just improved their writing that much between the first and second books (which would be worthy of a standing ovation, whoa). Whereas the first book was "meh," this book was "good."
I also felt like Cade wrote Alaska better in this book, which is a huge bonus.

In a Nutshell: Great MM romantic suspense with a strong romance and compelling plot.
Why I Read this Book: I really enjoyed book one in this series so want to continue it. I have to also mention how much I’m enjoying reading male MM romance authors, like Scotty Cade.
What I Liked: Dax and Jackson have great chemistry. The sexual attraction is there but I really like how their emotional relationship develops. The men communicate with each other, especially important since gay attraction is new to Jackson. I like that Dax doesn’t rush Jackson in their relationship and this provides great emotional and sexual pay-off for readers. I also liked how realistic Jackson’s sexual confusion was. He didn’t just suddenly feel comfortable kissing Dax in public but it’s a struggle for him in the face of societal pressures. The first two books in this series have very accepting views on sexuality that it’s less about absolutes and more attraction for specific people and I enjoyed this gentle message.
What I Also Liked: Mac and Brad from book one are great secondary characters here, as well as Dax’s sister who is also his business partner. These three form a crew for the ship with Dax and Jackson and all work together to find the shipwreck. Their gentle humor helps Jackson alter his life in order to have a relationship with Dax and I liked this support network for both men.
The plot was also quite suspenseful. The shipwreck was straight out of a Discovery Channel documentary and I’m a sucker for this kind of thing. The book focuses a lot on how the crew finds the wreck, then how they dive to document it, claim it and then see what’s in the shipwreck. The rival group looking for the wreck provides just enough sinister action for the novel and rounded out this good novel.
What I Didn’t Like: Nada.
IMO: Good romance, good plot and good characters here. I’ll be continuing this series.

At the end of the first book, Mac nearly loses Brad because his brother-in-law, Jack, threatens him with an ultimatum to choose Brad or his family. I'm glad this book takes place a couple of years later because otherwise I'm not sure if I would have been ready to forgive Jack for his bigotry. Yes, okay, we all know he was only acting out because he was scared of his own feelings for men...and so begins Jack's story.
The one thing this book was missing compared to the first book, was the wonderful relationship build. I really loved the characters in the first book, so when I compare this book to that one, it's not quite as good. Yes Dax is super hot, but he's such a dick in the beginning it's tough to like him. And Jack needed to do some redeeming from his actions in the first book. But it also seemed like it didn't take Jack long to get over his "I'm straight"-ness and open up to Dax. That was much quicker than the first book. Granted, Brad was also grieving so the slow build made more sense in the first book, but I really missed that. Once Jack and Dax admitted their attraction (which was pretty quick), then it was on pretty hot and heavy.

Sure, stuff like that doesn't happen every day, but I am a recreational diver and reading this book really made me feel like I was down there with the characters. We met Jack in book one

The whole buried treasure and some bad guys out there had a very dated feel. Almost as if this happened in the 1950s . We see Mac and Brad from book 1, which I loved, but they seemed silly in this book. That business with the underwear was odd. I did like Dax' sister, Dona but she too came off as silly at times. All in all, did not really enjoy this book.

Brad and Mac are back when Jack gets an unusual request for a lengthy and secretive dive charter from Dax. Turns out that Mac and Brad know of Dax from a failed treasure hunt near Cape Horn that was broadcast on T.V. What they don't share is that Dax is gay. They've long suspended that Jack, Mac's brother in law from his first partner is also gay whether Jack realises it or not. Dax is smitten by Jack at first sight but how can he convince Jack of that? Jack agrees to the charter and its rather unusual conditions. During the course of their search for a shipwreck off the Alaskan coast the two men nearly come to blows, but Dax foils Jack with a kiss that sets the ball rolling. Gold and contraband bring in a whole new set of risks for the crew and Jack and Dex must fight not only for each other but for their entire crew. A great read that will keep you turning the pages from beginning to end.

This is a feel good read, second in a series so we do meet some of the other characters, but readable as a standalone. I did get this free from the publishers in a competition.
I enjoyed this read, not having read any of the authors books before. A suspension of reality is required - it all happens very fast, from tough straight sea captain to taking the lead with another guy, but it worked for me. Despite having baddies, there wasn't much angst - and the underwater scenes did recall Bond films to mind. I enjoyed the Mac and Brad support characters, they were fun and their teasing of Jack was good!
Ideal for a cosy night in with a glass of wine, when you want to be cheered up.

Just finished this book, which I was really anxious to read, and I have to say I'm disappointed. The first one was so good, this one was just flat. I felt no connection to Dax and Jack at all and I didn't think there was any chemistry between them. The only thing that saved this book from being a complete bust was having Mac and Brad in the story (love them).
I really liked the treasure hunt aspect and I saw potential in this story, but for me it just didn't work. I do have the others in this series and am really hoping there as good as the first one.

Wow.. Scotty Cade is fast becoming one of my favorite authors. I loved reading this great story of Alexander but his friends call him Zander. When hes looking forward to the happiest time of his life of getting married its suddenly taken way from him. In the horror of the aftermath of being in a coma he wakes to be told his beloved and both his parents where killed.
The FBI appointed Agent Jake Elliott to his case of finding out what happened the night. This is a fantastic book which kept me reading. I had no idea that the ending would be. A recommend book that's for sure.

Love abounds! What a great addition to the "of Love" series! This book is the second in the series, so I really enjoyed "running into" some of the characters from the first one. (Note: This is #2, but I think you'd be okay to read this one without reading the other one first).
I enjoyed the plot in this book, and I really enjoyed the characters. This was one I couldn't put down!
Definitely a must read for anyone who enjoys a really good M/M Romance!

First book in this series that I did not cry . Nothing tears, no snow,no city.Beautiful the setting and striking the boat, Jack, his history with Dax exciting, intriguing and beautiful treasure hunt and beautiful see Brad and Mac . A complete history and full of emotions and balanced as always in equilibrium Scotty Cade

I thought Dax and Jack were hot together and I loved that Jack merged into his relationship with Dax so easily and let himself love without even thinking twice about it really. I also loved that Brad and Mac were back as I loved them in book 1 also. So far this series was well worth buying. On to book 3!

First, I really liked the concept and plot. The treasure hunting was great and mystery/drama was great. I even liked the MCs and the supporting characters. They were all great but the thing that kinda killed this story and me groaning was the insta mushy love thing. It was rather sudden and wasn't sexy, sweet, cute or endearing.

I did not read the 1st book but had no trouble with anything in this book. I can honestly say I was very let down with this book. I normally enjoy this author but this story left me disappointed. Dax and Jack imo didn't click the way good mcs should. The story line had a lot of potential but no follow through.

2 stars. Didn't really connect with any of the characters. Is this part of a series? I felt like I came in the middle of the story between Jack, Brad and Mac.
