Motivation, the will to act is a lot more complex that it initially sounds. It is not just about power, pay or prestige, culture had a n important to play too. The author talks about analysing, building up, getting the best from people and rewarding achievement. I remember what it was like go from a demotivating to a motivating people. What made the big difference was the willingness to focus on the person rather than the paper to be completed. I came out the manager's office feeling 7 feet tall, even though the manager had given criticism rather than commendation that was enough encouragement there to fo focus on improving my perfomrance.
