Psalm 110:10-12 (NIV),goes,"
10 I seek you with all my heart;
do not let me stray from your commands.
11 I have hidden your word in my heart
that I might not sin against you.
12 Praise be to you, LORD;
teach me your decrees."
We are encouraged to memorize scripture, because when you think about it...it involves a deeper study of what is being shared, makes it easier to share with others, maybe we just don't have the bible with us or can access it quick on our smartphones....either way...learning scripture brings a deeper connection and more depth to reading the Bible.
With "Life-Changing Bible Verses You Should Know", Erwin Lutzer, does just that.
Nearly 40 chapters, with verses listed at the beginning of each chapter, commentary that explains the meaning and significance of each of the passages and followed by questions for individual, discipleship or group study, this is a very user friendly book to use for a personal devotional time.
For me, when looking at a book to use for such time (personal devotionals), the things I look for, are ease of use, can be broken down either daily or weekly if chosen, doesn't go over the reader's head and at the same time,isn't so simplistic that it doesn't satisfy the reader's need to learn more and with,"Life-Changing Bible Verses You Should Know", you'll find an easy going scripture based book that you can take as long as 40 weeks with, or spend each day on a different topic/scripture.
"Life-Changing Bible Verses You Should Know" is geared to revitalize the love and thirst for memorizing scripture and it does so in a way that for many who may say, but that's not for me, can find, hey it can be for them.
Topical, encouraging...and for those who are new to both memorizing scripture and just starting a personal devotional time to really dig into God's Word, the Bible..."Life Changing Bible Verses You Should Know" is great for the new Christian, the Christian seeking to grow and mature in their growth and just for those who are serious about really understanding all that God's Word has to offer.

If you have a class or group of people who call themselves Christians but barely understand what that means, then use this book to help you! Each verse is linked to a particular Christian theme and is short enough for people at this stage of their faith (especially if they are older people) to keep up and slowly, but slowly, emerge from their childhood understanding of faith.

MY REVIEW:
Practical. Helpful. Informative.
I got to review this book in kindle format, but this is a book I really want in a black and white print edition! Each chapter addresses a topical issue with key verses one should memorize and then insight into how each of those verses applies. I like it because when struggling with a specific issue this is easy to use in not only finding out what the Bible says, but also exactly how that applies to the problem. This book is easy reading and encouraging. I would recommend it for anyone - teens, adults, families, etc. Also, because it has study questions at the end of each chapter it makes a great simple Bible study or group program for memorizing together.

I joined the Navigators in college, and one of the things I learned was the importance of Scripture memorization (plus fun, fellowship, and food), though I was never as good at it as Nanay (she can still quote the Topical Memory System verses on demand).
So I was excited about Life-Changing Bible Verses You Should Know, and even more excited to read a new book from Erwin Lutzer and wife Rebecca. It's a collection of verses arranged into topics that we all can relate to, such as Anxiety, Courage, Grief, Hope, Sensuality, Love. It also contains verses that help us hold on to the basics of what we believe, verses about God, Jesus, The Holy Spirit, Hell, Satan, Justification.
The verses highlighted in this book are not your usual medley of greatest hits; many are carefully chosen and really hit the nail on the head. The perfect ammunition to carry in your heart and mind for you never know when.
Each topic's two-to-three page exposition is a good balance of light-hearted storytelling and light-weight theological digging.
Some tried and true concepts border on the cliche, but many are gems that can enrich your understanding of things you thought you already knew.
These make it a good stand-by for the seeker, the non-reader, and the too-busy-to-read reader, but it also has something to offer the wide reader, deep thinker, and all around big-words lover.
Whichever category of reader you think you fall into, I think this book has the potential to usher you into a stirring encounter with God on life issues you and He need to address. It will not depend on the kind of reader you are, but the kind of heart you have when you read.
