From the Land: Two Hundred Years of Dene Clothing

Rate this book
Icelandic-Canadian Popular Verse features 274 verses and poems, both originals and translations, that reflect Icelandic immigrant life on the Prairies. Recorded in western Canada, Washington, and North Dakota in 1966-1969, these verses and poems convey the thoughts and experiences of Icelandic immigrants and their descendants. Occasional verses have been part of Icelandic written and oral tradition for centuries. They can be used in any number of ways--to express love, philosophy of lief, censure, or simply delight in the joys of daily living. As such, these verses are a uniquely revealing source of information about the emotional and intellectual life of Icelandic immigrants. In addition, the book includes photographs, an index of loanwords and phrases, and an index to poetsÕ and storytellersÕ repertoires, as well as biographical information.
