Rate this book
Landmark joint retrospective exhibition monograph. Published in a small and limited print run as a paperback original only. A handsome production by Mondadori Electa SpA Regular-sized volume format. Pictorial softcovers with black titles on cover and spine, as issued. Photographs by Keith Carter and Mauro Fiorese. Essay by John Wood. List of Plates and brief Biographies appended at the end. Printed on thick stock paper in Milan, Italy to the very highest standards. Without DJ, as issued. Published on the occasion of the exhibition of the same name held at the Centro Internazionale Di Fotografia Scavi Scaligeri Milan, Italy in 2001/2002. Presents and juxtaposes the closely intertwined photographic worlds of the American artist/photographer Keith Carter and his Italian kindred spirit/counterpart, Mauro Fiorese. Their styles and even their subjects are very different and will reward closer study and contemplation. Nevertheless, they are united by what John Wood calls a belief in the "miracle of the day". "I'm looking for a poetry of the ordinary, the mysteries of the human spirit. I'm trying to create a dialogue with life, to learn what being human is all about" (Keith Carter) . "Out of darkness, which invades many spiritual places, sometimes a light softly illuminates, allowing me to see. I've looked and continue to look in the quiet obscurity of places where everyday something happens which is not magic, but rather affection, needing, searching, something simply being in contact with something undeniable, but surely more certain than our own contemporary insecurity" (Mauro Fiorese) . A lovely commemorative monograph that is rich in poetic imagery and enriching. 2005, ModernRare.com
