A Study Commentary on Genesis, Volume 1: Genesis 1:1–25:18

Rate this book
John Currid focuses on the content and theology of this first book of the Bible. Indeed almost every important church doctrine is found in 'seed' form in the book of Genesis. An important addition to the Study Commentary series.

Outstanding commentary that is concise, clear and yet scholarly too. It has been my first choice as I have been preaching through Genesis lately. The “application” sections lack specificity, and more frequently give New Testament connections instead (not technically “application”), but it still helps bridge the gap between today and the ancient biblical text. I will get the second volume as I plan to continue through the second half of Genesis.

Fantastic commentary, though weak on suggested applications at time. Not his forte.

Helpful in many ways. But it leaves you wishing for more grammatical exegesis at times and more Christological application in other places. The New Testament connections while there are lacking in elaboration and sometimes missing altogether. But overall a solid commentary for working through the first half of Genesis.

I agreed with many of his explanations of the text and I greatly appreciated that he concluded each section with a page or two of application. But, I found other commentaries more stimulating and helpful.

Great read. One of my favorite commentaries use. Helpful mix of theological, historical, and pastoral application throughout. Excited to dive into Volume II!

John Currid is an excellent commentator on the Pentateuch. He always brings fresh and insightful observations to the text.
