Lindsey Gray spends her days and most of her nights creating characters, over thinking everything, and trying to remember all the things on her massive to-do list. One thing that is always at the top of her list is writing something she hopes others will enjoy. Her journey into authordom began when her first novel was published in 2010. Through trials, tribulations, and learning how to work well with others in the author sandbox, she has found a joy she never thought she would know.
Her many lists also include mothering her two children, devoting time to her handsome hubby, formatting novels for other authors, and hosting her weekly radio show, Gray Matters, on TMV Cafe Internet Radio.
This was a pretty good story with a lot going on in a relatively short time span. You definitely want to pay attention to what’s happening, and who is who.
The story starts off with an eerie scene. There is a choice to be made, one person’s life over another’s. Then we jump right to another place and we watch Lily hunting. Lily is a vampire, but she doesn’t drink people, she is strictly on what the Cullen’s would call the vegetarian diet – animals only. Lily is one of the last three remaining vampires on Earth.
Then we jump back in time just a smidge more, and learn how everything leads up to this point. Lily and Ian, dating and in love. The only problem is that Ian is a human, and he doesn’t know that she isn’t. This causes her to make a drastic decision.
I found this book to be very enjoyable overall. It had a fast pace and was well written. Even though there are many characters and it takes place over several time periods with flashbacks and memories, I never once was confused about where or what was happening. The characters were intriguing and charismatic.
There were a lot of different aspects to this book. You are dealing with a wide assortment of paranormal beings. There is everything from vampires, angels and demons to shadow walkers and more. There are serial killers and just regular oxygen breathing, blood flowing human beings. If I had any complaint at all, it would only be how easily everything was accepted when the truth about the paranormal aspect comes out. Everybody in this book seemingly takes everything in stride. I can’t say if that is how I would picture it happening, but I’ve not had anyone come out to me with their paranormal side….yet.
I almost dare say this book is more about Lily’s best friend Becca more than Lily herself. There are several plot lines swirling around together. They were all very interesting, and I think there will be a lot of questions that get answered in the next book, Revisited, due out this summer.
ARC of Redemption courtesy THE WRITERS COFFEE SHOP I give Redemption a 3 star rating for the attempt at writing based on an interesting plot line. So Redemption is basically about Lily, last existing vampire, working for a mysterious Manchester organisation(till date im clueless as to what this is and why it is and why its employers and employees(demons angels and the likes) dont know what the bloomin hell goes on on earth and whos really who) Shes a gorgeous recluse, animal eater staying away from romantic relationships in all her hundreds of years but for one human Ian. But the minute he offers commitment she outta there before u say whatz up! Ian cant let go so after two months of seahing for any kind of clue as to her whereabouts he manages to contact Rebecca the only human (later she finds out shes half angel) who knows Lilys secret and is willing to help Ian find her because she thinks he is the one for Lily. This is where it gets bizarre. This friendship(if you call drinking and chatting for a few hours that)blooms quite quickly into love and half way down the book you see them confessing this undying passionate love to each other when they are held hosatge half naked on a bed with a sheet with no bathroom by a demon who thinks thats the best way to prevent them from escape(say what!)This demon wants to barter with Lily for i dont know what and i dont know why? Im thinking....theres a lot of attraction bouncing off of walls for no rhyme or reason. It seems the outcomes were all planned and then the lines just filled in. Too many people are introduced into this jumble berry crumble except i love Jumble berry crumble and this I DO NOT. No proper background character sketch on any, some of whom are simply not necessary. Dialogue is very bland, very predictable, theres zero ust or any kind of tension if you ask me. Even Ryan (who is Lilys husband when she was human and their honeymoon was tragically cut short by an accident) who Lily claims was her unforgettable love of a life enters in a such a strange manner. Lily didnt even recognise him the first time she seems him after hundreds of years even after she claims his memory never faded and never allowed her to love completely again. Im going to cut this here, i feel ive said enough. the rest of the plot bunnies are of really no consequence. SO Ill say THIS. "I wont be visiting part two forget REVISITED." ive finished. i need time to phrase politely without being to harsh.
Combining religious iconography (angels, the "Big Guy") and nephalim and neatly interweaving it with vampire and demonic lore, witchcraft, corporate management and science, this is far from your `normal' paranormal vampire story. The Maxwell Group serves as the centerpoint of this story; either through their management of the remaining vampires on earth, to their multitude of holdings and safe houses throughout the world, their medical and technological advances, and, their use of Fallen Angels in management positions, they truly are the point from which all issues come. They have a `finger' on all things paranormal in the world, consulting with if not manipulating the press for governments worldwide. If the idea of a vampire working with and actually befriending angels and demons alike isn't enough to interest you in the story - read on.
This story is, although loaded with action and multiple characters, primarily character driven, where all the action centers around Lily, a vampire, and the people she has loved, cared for and worked with over her years on earth: both human and vampire years. As a newlywed, Lily fell to her death and was made Vampire, leaving behind her soul-mate and the one she felt was made for her. For many years, she has not allowed another man to get close or know her; and when those walls started to crumble - she ran. This sets in motion a series of events that bring Lily and those around her into mortal, if not soul-ending danger. Caught in a maelstrom of divided loyalties, a fierce protective instinct, and an ethical issue surrounding the reversal of the "disease" that is Vampire: this story jumps from one character and idea to the next.
It sounds incredibly confusing, but really, it's not. The characters are so beautifully crafted and drawn with strong voices and backgrounds that reveal in pieces to not overwhelm the reader, and there is a glossary with essential background on each character should it be needed. Honestly, it was such a refreshing change that adding 2 or 3 characters and their backgrounds really didn't take away from my following the story at all. And there is some sexual content, not in that oversexed vampire way that is all too familiar, but with enough detail and description that makes it noticeable but not uncomfortable.
I received an eBook copy from the author for purpose of honest review. I was not compensated for this review, and all conclusions are my own responsibility.
Redemption was an interesting take on a paranormal romance. Lily, the only female vampire known in existence flees from Ian, the man she loves, because she fears for his safety when he is with her. What Lily doesn’t know is that she is about to be confronted by her past in ways that are both pleasant and painful. Ian and the ones she holds closest to her heart are also come face to face with Lily’s past, and it could kill them.
I enjoyed reading Redemption and there were a few plot twists that surprised me and kept me guessing. I really liked Gray’s take on vampires and the paranormal – many of the elements of vampire theology that she created in this world were unique and I appreciated her fresh take on the genre. Redemption is not just a book about vampires; it is about angels, demons and a host of other supernatural beings. Redemption is the first book of Lindsay Gray’s that I have read and I found her writing style to flow smoothly and kept me turning the pages quickly.
I was enjoying the story line so much that I wish Redemption had been longer. I would have loved to get more background information and explanations on vampire legend and paranormal history. I almost wish there was a prequel to Redemption so that I could have just fallen into the story fully knowing who everyone was and what they were capable of. I want to know more about Lily, the way vampires were sired and how they lived (as this was a completely new take on vampires as far as I am aware), as well as The Manchester Group and exactly what it did. I hope that will all be revealed in the next installment of the series and I am really looking forward to seeing what happens in Gray’s next book.
Redemption was a fun and unique take on vampires, angels and the paranormal romance genre and I am eagerly anticipating the next book in the series “Revisited.”
I received a free copy of Redemption from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
Lily’s the only female vampire and she’s whiling her time away until she can be with her husband once more in the afterlife. What she doesn’t know is her past is about to catch up with her in unexpected ways.
To call ‘Redemption’ simply a paranormal romance or a vampire novel is selling it short. While there is some romance and vampires, ‘Redemption’ is to me a paranormal story with romantic elements, along with action, mystery, and a brewing battle between good and evil. Ms. Gray has created a unique world with vampires, angels, demons, Nephilim, and multitudes of other paranormal creatures. All of the characters came to life for me and the way their back-stories were told fit smoothly into the story. This is definitely a different kind of paranormal story, with exciting twists and an ending which will surprise you. I can’t wait to read book two and see what happens next!
The Redemption Series: Redemption (1), Revisited (2)
Redemption is the story of Lily, who happens to be a vampire. She's not just any vampire, she is only one of three in existence. Lily has walked the earth as the undead for past 100 years. She works for the mysterious Manchester Group and she does her best not to get too close to anyone. Until she meets Ian, he falls in love with her (rather quickly) and she feels it too, but she can't risk it. So she leaves. Ian is left to mourn her absence and thinking of ways to find her...he's successful. What he doesn't know is that Lily is not who he thinks she is and his life will be forever changed.
Redemption is fantastic! I can't wait for the next book in the series. Lindsey Gray has done a wonderful job weaving this story together. The cast of characters are intriguing and brilliantly written. This book is unlike anything that I've read.
From the first page, Lindsey Gray pulled me into this story of the vampire, Lily, who tries to live a more redeeming life, but who is constantly made to struggle to keep those she loves safe. I related to her struggle to raise, and protect, a good friend's little girl, Becca. Becca becomes deeply emeshed in the world of the supernatural as Lily is continously hunted by her enemies. I literally couldn't put this book down, though I needed to. This book is a page turner and a must read. I easily give it five stars. This is one book anyone who loves the paranormal, and especially anyone who loves to read about vampires, should not miss!
