This is written at the level of a women's magazine article pop psychology quiz, so if you're looking for something more scientific then you will be disappointed. It's not a bad book, it's quite entertaining and accessible. It depends what you're looking for in a book on psychopathy.
This book was extremely interesting giving various case examples of psychopaths /non-psychopaths. It did find some of the in depth explanations and examples tedious though
We think of a psychopath as a twisted serial killer, but he or she could equally be your demanding boss, your exciting lover or your new best friend who's conning you out of your life savings. This fascinating little book tells you what to look for. If you spot that someone's faking empathy, then don't fall for their charm - run a mile.
An interesting, quick guide to the works of psychopathy. The book gives examples and case studies for different types of scenarios that you might come across. It is genuinely hard and fascinating for me to get my head around a person that cannot feel love, guilt or remorse.
Gostei bastante.
Is there a psycho in your life? has a title that would not look entirely out of place nestled between the pages of a tabloid. Reading a bit like one, it gives a very surface-level insight into psychopathy. That being said, this means it is very accessible and is kept lighthearted –well, as lighthearted as a book about ruthless criminals can be– whilst still being an easy yet informative read.
Though the book provides some interesting information about general psychopathic behaviours, there is little that stays with the reader once it is put away. This is largely due to the fact, as the authors acknowledge, that it takes a lot of careful diagnosis to truly pronounce whether someone is really a psychopath. So, althuogh the book describes the tendencies that a psychopath typically diplays, the answer posed in the title is not truly answerable!
That said, it is an interesting read that describes psychopathic behaviour in different contexts and settings.
Only thing i can say about the book is; don't wait for it to exactly say to you who is the psycho in your life. The book is just giving you examples and clarifying why that situation was named as psychotic. What you should see in your parents/child/lover/boss/bff/collegue/spouse and know that it is a psychotic behavior and you should run away from it.
Because there is not one type of psycho in this world. Not just only killers are psychopaths. Know this and open your eyes. Don't go psychopath about it yourself, of course, but don't be naive as well.
Think this book should be subtitled "Pop PSYCHO spotting."
Has little of the real information contained in titles like PSYCHOPATHIC TEXT, THE WISDOM OF PSYCHOPATHS or similar. Has some quite good humour but is really aimed at school kid audience.
Not nearly as good as the sociopath next door, a little bit light, tries a bit hard to be funny, but I read it in almost one sitting so interesting and readable
