A fun children's book that explores the life cycle of pumpkins. It provides informative details about the growth and cultivation of pumpkins. The book also includes fun pumpkin facts, a glossary of terms, and suggestions for further reading, allowing for further research if wanted. A great resource for students to help them to understand and appreciate the natural world.

1. This book has not received any awards.

2. This book can be used for preschool up to grade two.

3. This book talks all about pumpkins. Nelson goes through the life cycle of a pumpkin and what it takes to make a pumpkin. It talks about the seed, roots and vines and their importance to the pumpkin. This book also gives some pumpkin facts at the end which are cool.

4. This book was a good informational text to show the life cycle of a pumpkin. It was easy to read so children do not get lost in the words of an informational text. They will be able to understand how a pumpkin grows and the life-cycle through this kid friendly book. Nelson used real life pictures to help children see the life-cycle of a pumpkin.

5. This book can be used during the fall when children are going out and buying pumpkins. As a class we can read this book to show how pumpkins are made. We can create our very own life-cycle on a pumpkin. This is fun for the kids because you are still talking about pumpkins in the fall, but you are also giving them information on a life cycle and how it is cyclical.

This book can also be used to do a science activity. We could read this book, and then dissect our very own pumpkin. In doing this the students will see exactly what we just talked about in the book in real life. They will be able to make connections and hopefully will be able to recall from the book the parts of the pumpkin.

Genre: Informational
Unique Feature: This text is unique because of its content. Growing up, I remember reading informational texts about life cycles of a flower or bug, but never a pumpkin. I learned facts about pumpkins that I never knew before.
Grade Levels Recommended: K-2

Very good book. This was a great read when our class discussed the pumpkin life cycle. It is a great contrast to typical Halloween books! Great for all ages, especially kindergarteners.
