Excellent, quick read. I thought this was a stand alone, but it's the last of a 5 book series. it did fine as the stand alone though. good plot, although I could have pinched our heroine Laurel a few times in the beginning. Micah our hero is a dream, for more than his good looks! if you enjoy "seasoned" romances this fits the bill perfectly.
A nice, if not somewhat whiny story about a financially strapped (and you never forget it because it is thrown at you constantly) woman (Laurel), with a fierce temper, who is trying to keep her huge antebellum home afloat while planning her daughter's wedding (which, she isn't dealing well with). Enter Micah, a photojournalist, weary of the world, looking for a place to call home.
There is intrigue in this story. And some confusion. There is also a lot of talk about turning things over to God (re: Finances, anger issues etc), but little evidence that the people praying are doing anything about it. And little evidence of real change in their lives. Which, I guess is like "real" life, but I just felt at time that this story was too pat. I like to see change and resolve in my stories. Especially when people are praying for that change. There was also, what felt like to me anyway, a TON of whining. Ugh.
But, over-all, it was a decent story. I had to over-look a lot of things because I wanted to see how it ended and I liked some of the characters and wanted to see them through. And the end was really good. Made me happy.
Just loved this book...usually when you begin reading a book in this genre, you don't expect to be so enthralled and transported, but this one did it and earned a 5-star from me. The main character, a Mom who had devoted her life to her daughter after the tragic passing of her father in a boating accident, just immediately wins your heart because of her relationship with her daughter. Now that her daughter is preparing to marry and move away to Colorado, Laurel is nervous about what the next stage in life will mean for her. Really enjoyed the secondary plot line in the mystery of the house and treasure...just an amazing read that I could not put down. Bravo!
Quick read -- one you'll not want to put down, lots of twist that I didn't expect (liked that!) Story that shared history of homes in the area and life of a photojournalist in a fiction-fun-filled setting.
This was a nice contemporary romance with a minor suspense thread thrown in that I wasn't expecting. Nothing earth-shattering, but a pleasant read anyway.
