Lev Nikolayevich Gumilev (Лев Гумилев) was a Soviet and Russian historian, ethnologist, anthropologist and translator. He had a reputation for his highly unorthodox theories of ethnogenesis and historiosophy. He was an exponent of Eurasianism. According to geographer Mark Bassin, Lev Gumilev, whose books have now sold millions of copies, can be compared in terms of influence to Herodotus, Karl Marx, Oswald Spengler or Albert Einstein.

Гумилевская теория этногенеза в общих чертах выглядит стройной и убедительной. Она описывает появление этносов, их жизненные циклы и умирание. В деталях, как мне показалось, отдает антинаучной ерундой. Например пассионарные толчки (они являются причинами возникновения новых этносов), он пытается объяснить космическим излучением, потому что ничем другим объяснить не может. Похоже на костыль, без которого теория разваливается. Читать другие книги Гумилева желания не возникло.
