Emily’s dad wants her to visit and meet his new wife at a horse ranch in New Mexico. Emily convinces Adriane and Kara to accompany her. But along the magic web, a dangerous magic tracker is hunting down unicorns. In the deserts of New Mexico, the girls discover an entire herd of baby unicorns, which they must hide from the tracker before it is too late.
Rachel Roberts adores magic, adventure, animals, and music. Rachel is an devoted campaigner with animal rights and protection of wild places organizations. Rachel’s has been reading ever since she could first carry a book and enjoys getting lost in a fantastic story. Rachel has been a writer as well as a editor her entire career. Rachel says the majority of concepts for her stories and characters appear on lengthy hikes. She brings a little notepad, just for jotting down thoughts. Afterward at her house Rachel builds on the ideas together with feline friends, Attila and Raider. She also is in love with music, playing the piano, flute, as well as learning to play guitar.
Avalon: Web of Magic is Rachel’s very first series of novels.
This is my favourite book in the Avalon series by far. In this book Emily, Adrian and Kara fly out to New Mexico to meet Emilys dad and her new stepmom. While on a trail ride Emily senses that an animal is in danger, With the help of Adrian and Dreamer, they discover that a group of thirty baby unicorns are in danger. They were on their way to their academy when a dark creature, the Golem at the end of the book I presume, tries to attack the baby unicorns and the centaurs entrusted with the babies safety. Apparently they fell off a bridge and fell into a portal in New Mexico, what are the chances? The unicorns are still babies haven’t grown their horns yet. The baby unicorns are beautiful, even before their horns grow and their true colours come to life. There’s supposed to a be a princess and prince born in every generation, very interesting, you don’t know who until their horns are tuned. I loved reading about the girls giving them baths and cutting their hair, that was fun to read. I also loved the colour descriptions in this book, I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, nothing makes a good book like good colour descriptions. Some of the unicorns are mint green, sunburst orange, lavender, aqua blue, some even sparkle like diamonds. This series is a very colourful read to say the least, and I love it! I’m not a fan of the whole desert scene, but the unicorns definitely made up for it. In this book you also find out that there are nine power crystals missing from Avalon, apparently they were lost when Kara opened the portals and released the magic onto the web. I’m not sure exactly what’s these power crystals do, I think it has something to do with harnessing the magic of Avalon. I’ll find out more in the next books. As it turns out the dark sorceress has some allies in the other world, and she intends in finding the power crystals too. She desperately needs a new hobby. I don’t understand how she could want to destroy such a beautiful world and such wonderful magical creatures. But that’s what a villain does, she’ll get hers in the end. Onto book eight.
As if meeting her new step-mom isn't enough, Emily and the girls find a bunch of lost unicorn foals in the middle of the Texan wilderness, who desperately need the mages to get them back to Avalon before their magic can be stolen by the monsters roaming closer and closer! Roberts begins a new arc that will engage fans with its familiar heart and humour, while offering a new heaping of exciting and magical mayhem. Can the mages come together with their newfound power to protect the unicorns, or will their magic fall into evil hands?
I don’t know what it is about the Emily-centered stories that don’t click with me like the others. Maybe because her stories are way more focused on the animal of the month rather than her own character? Adriane and Kara are getting more development at this point.
That, and this was a storm of infuriating onomatopoeias. I could tolerate Ozzie, but having 30 unicorns all going “bWaaAckhOnktooT!” every page was not fun. Plus, we meet a new character whose puns were overdone. The downfall of not being the target audience that would enjoy that type of writing.
This book was CHAOTIC. Most of the pages were filled with honks, screeches, and yelps from the young unicorns that the mages rescued. Monsters attacked from every angle, several new characters were introduced, and the girls learned of a new quest. It was a pretty average book, and the writing wasn’t all that great.
The first of the formerly-called Quest for Magic arc, this is the beginning of a new chapter in the Avalon series.
Song of the Unicorns is an Emily-centered book that introduces the girls to new adventures and villains while revisiting old friends along the way.
What I like about this book is that we get some more background on the magical world in general - more creatures, "wild" magic, mage levels and such - and we are essentially left with the promise of more to come.
The girls now have to go on a "quest" to recover something lost from Avalon, hence the original arc title. I couldn't tell if this new adventure was just a way to continue the story, as the premise behind it didn't seem at all original, but I see that the characters are still growing. The series still has a message about friendship and the magic that comes with working together with and caring for animals, so I have no qualms with the series continuing for the reasons given in the book.
Also, just as I noted in the 4th book regarding Emily's storyline with her mom, I appreciate the story with her dad and stepmother in this book. It is a personal thing that I think some kids can relate to; I speak from experience.
It seemed like it took awhile for it get started, getting to the excitement or drama. I got annoyed reading the word Tweek for an animal name. I did enjoy Emily's character and Kara's too. I also liked the ferret's character. I don't like the name Prince Pollo, you know Pollo means Chicken in spanish. Not sensible for this story. This is wrongfully said,"Join the team twighead". Not a good word for a sweet unicorn story. So far not liking these words,Twig,Tweek,Gwigg. Reading these words too much kept distracting me from the story. Loved the message of the story and how they talk about working as a team and believing. It was a good story of friendship and bonding with the people who care about you. Not one of my favorite unicorn stories but at least it sent a good message out.
Appropriate for: age 11+ You will like this book if you like: My Little Pony, unicorns, magic
This book was geared for a younger audience, but I still enjoyed it a lot. I've read some books for kids that are just way too dumbed down. The first 10 pages had me intrigued, which is always important. The first part of the book spent a long time with back story, but since I had never read any of the previous books, I needed it.
my favorite part was when the unicorns interupted the saong she ll be coming round the mountain and made it sound funny. the worst part was when the magic was wild because it was mean. My favorite character was ozzie he was funny. the worst character was the dark soureress.

Great book so far! I love Adriane's character, I feel bad for Stormbringer... but Dreamer's cool too I guess... Also Kara is soooo gullible! Foolish is more like it!
