I've been familiar with the source material of the Durham Red comics since I was a teenager and have only just got round to reading this particular bridging novel in the series. Peter J Evans delivers a fast paced sci fi adventure story that shows Dan Abnett's vision for the title character in all of her best and worst elements. Shades of notable science fiction films are given a due nod without the references being too obvious. Evans also doesn't shy away from the harsh nature of the future world that Red now lives in nor the fanaticism that has overtaken both sides of the human divide.

Without a doubt, a great read that is both scary and enjoyable, a definite must for fans of horror and science fiction.
