Finding the Right Key by Adrianne Byrd

Professional party planner Kimora Evans has dreamed up her quirkiest party theme yet—a holiday key party—where singles hook up based on a car-key lottery. With best friends, boyfriends and bosses in the mix, there's more than enough sexy fun to go around. But what Kimora doesn't count on is what happens when she plays romance Russian roulette.

'Round Midnight by Donna Hill

Relationship expert Summer Lane is so busy helping lovelorn callers on her late-night radio talk show that she finds herself in her own romance slump. As New Year's Eve approaches, she decides to follow her own advice—and speak straight from the heart—to keep the handsome program director from slipping away when the clock strikes twelve.

Blind Faith by Kayla Perrin

Trapped for days in her car when it careens off an isolated stretch of road outside of Buffalo, New York, Andrea Dawson has already said her prayers and given up hope of ever being rescued. But then she suddenly sees a blinding light—not from the great beyond, but rather a flashlight held by her sexy savior, Mark Potter. With both of them looking for something to believe in, has fate brought them together for a reason?

National Best-selling author Adrianne Byrd has always preferred to live within the realms of her imagination where all the men are gorgeous and the women are worth whatever trouble they manage to get into. As an army brat, she traveled throughout Europe and learned to appreciate and value different cultures. Now she calls Georgia home.

Looking back, Adrianne believes her passion for writing began at the ripe old age of thirteen. It was also the age when she was introduced to romance novels by a most unlikely source: her fifteen-year old brother. The book was probably given to keep her out her brother’s hair, but it was a gift that changed her life.

In books, Adrianne found a way out of her awkward teenage years and into a world of fictional friends that would stay with her for a lifetime. It wasn’t long before her imagination took flight and she was writing her own love stories. Within a year, she completed her first book, which she vowed would never see the light of day.

Writing remained a hobby until 1994 when a co-worker approached her with an article on Romance Writers of America. Who knew there was an organization of women just like her? By 1996 she sold her first novel, Defenseless, to Kensington Publishing.

Her first release received rave reviews by Romantic Times and fans. Her other novels were consistently selected as the Magazine’s Top Pick. In 2001 Slam Jam nominated, Say You Love Me, for best romance. Her 2003 release Comfort of a Man won Romantic Times Best Multicultural Romance, Romance in Color’s Readers Choice Awards for Favorite Book, Favorite Hero, and Favorite Heroine; Shades of Romance’s Best/Arabesque Romance Book; Slam Jams Emma Award for Favorite Traditional Romance; Romance in Color’s Reviewer’s Choice Award for Author of the Year, Book of the Year and Best BET/Arabesque Book. And lastly Comfort of a Man was a 2003 Georgia Romance Writers Maggie finalist for best Contemporary. In 2004 she released her first romantic suspense novel, If You Dare, with HarperCollins. In 2006 her novel Measure of a Man was nominated for Best Multicultural Romance while her Harper Torch novel Deadly Double was nominated for an Emma. In 2007 she won an eharlequin.com Joey Award.

In 2006 Adrianne along with fellow writer Niobia Bryant penned her first Urban Novel, DESPERATE HOODWIVES, writing as De'nesha Diamond. The book is set for release February 2008 from Simon and Schuster. For more information, visit http://www.deneshadiamond.com.

Ms. Byrd has been featured in many national publications, including Today’s Black Woman, Upscale, and Heart and Soul. She has also won local awards for screenwriting. For the future, she looks forward to continue creating characters that make people smile, laugh, and fall in love.

The premise of this book is exceptional with the key party. Pick a key and this is your hot sexy date for the night. The story goes off the rails a bit trying to capture that special moment between six characters pivoting from first-person narratives of Joel, Elijah, and Patrick.

The party in itself is a central character that wasn't fully developed and allowed to breathe.

The hesitancy of Birdie with the young man was rushed, not fully allowing the character to realize that one man's loss is another's playground.

Overall, a good read.

This anthology started off badly for me, the first story had erotica but no substance.  Now don't get me wrong I do not mind erotica, but in my holiday stories I prefer romantic stories.  Luckily the second and third stories were a saving grace, ironically they both had romance with no erotica and very little sexual content.  Usually when I read anthologies they are stories that mesh well together, these stories did not belong together and I am still trying to figure out what the theme they were going for is, the first story had the fantasy theme but the last two didn't.  Although they all were centered around the holidays they really didn't have anything else in common.  I think they just decided to throw this anthology together without thought on if these stories should be together.  The first story would have been really enjoyable if it had not been put together in a holiday anthology.  For me I like love and romance for the holidays, this was not about either..

Finding The Right Key - Adrianne Byrd
3.5 Stars
This story started off with a bang because the beginning was esentially the end, but after that it really slowed down, and I was waiting for the action to pick up again. When it picked up boy was it just tooo good. Ms. Byrd really has a gift at writing these truly amazing sex scenes and she does not disappoint. The story was one big orgy, and I was left wanting a whole lot more! The three mini stories were unfinished, and I just need to know what happens, so give us more Adrianne!

Round Midnight - Donna Hill

This story was just really not good. It was about 80 pages, and Summer and Tre took nearly 50 pages to get together after all the back and forth. The love scenes were paltry at best, and these two really had zero chemistry. The wrench toward the end of the story really made no sense, and just didnt fit in. I really hope Kayla Perrin's story is better than this one.

This was a cute sweet read about old flames reuniting. Mark and Andrea had good chemistry that you could really feel off of the pages. This story though was very tame, not much heat in it at all. Story wise this was the best of the 3.

Story one? *fans self* Oh myyyyyy. It was heavy with the sex, but I thought the style was really cool. I liked the varied perspectives and the different relationships that were being shown. Pretty cool actually (if, y'know, a LOT heavier on the smut than is the norm for me). I was impressed by what the writer managed to pull off.
Story two? *wipes away a happy tear* I reallyreallyreally liked this one. Some authors can't get that type of story across in that short a space. This author succeeded. AMAZING character building done very quickly. Loved it. Going to see if my library has more by this author.
Story three? *snortlaughs* Yeah, not so much, not my speed. The first part was actually well done. Nice little mystic element, a lot of potential. Went waaaay downhill from there. I was laughing at bits I probably was not intended to laugh at. HOWEVER, I still thought the author pulled off some quality writing. So, even though I didn't like this one I was impressed by the writing.
Overall I would say this is very well-written. If I was just rating the writing abilities of the authors I'd give it a solid four. But the fact is that two of the three stories were not my style. I'd highly recommend any of the writers based on this book, but I don't know that I'd recommend the book.

I really thought I was going to love all three of the novellas in this volume. Byrd, Hill and Perrin are some of my favorite authors, but sad to say, only one of there three really made it worth while to read. Finding the Right Key by Adrianne Byrd was hot, funny and I wished it was a full length book; Roud Midnight by Donna Hill was a nice, slightly sexy story; and Blind Faith was cute but weird and unfulfilling.

The stories were all great to read. I enjoyed every single one of them. Just not in one compilation. That's the reason for the 3.

Story number two is the best. Story three is about reconnecting with that special someone.
