Mór Jókai, born Móric Jókay de Ásva, outside Hungary also known as Maurus Jokai or Moriz Jokai, was a Hungarian dramatist and novelist. He was born in Komárom, the Kingdom of Hungary (today Komárno, Slovakia, southern part remains in Hungary).

A sztori nem volt a szokásos jókais módon elsimítva a végére. A nyelvezete érdekes, hiszen török nevek és szavak százait sorolja, mégsem tudja a mai olvasó, hogy mi volt archaikus már Jókai korában, és mi csak most.

nice historical fiction book about the Janissaries who were warriors in the turkish/muslim army. The janissaries were children of Christians taken in war and trained for battle. Loyalty was always a concern however even though they were extremely brave, they were feared by friend and foe alike. I had trouble following the names and titles but well worth the time and effort.

Decent novel about the last days of Ali Pasha and the last battle of the Jannisaries. The 1897 English edition from Jarrold & Sons has a list in the back with the most used Turkish terms.
