Not as weepy as the first one. These books are just meh. I like Christian fiction generally, but I don’t have the same affinity for these. The Love Comes Softly series or the Mitford series is fantastic!
These characters are so very sweet; you can’t help but like them and want the best for them and even want to be a part of them. “The world could use a good dose of you all” (125).
“You’re not dead until you die, so you might as well live” (18).
“Nothing compares to the gifts God gives us” (188).
“Jesus has given us a portion of his wealth, our inheritance as children of God…What are you planning to do with yours? I know what I want to do…I want to love like Jesus loves. I want to see every seed around me take root and grow tall to stand beside me…I want to be the hand someone reaches for in the dark of their lives. And I want to know the Lord will send such a hand to me in the dark of my life, too… I want people to know how close God really is—Jesus is—and I want them to feel his love like I do” (193).
I think this book (these books) would make a great tv show! Very reminiscent of Little House on the Prairie…kind, hardworking, Christian people doing the best they can to be kind, hardworking, Christian people…. 🥰
This was as good as book 1. We continue to follow the story of Callie and her family settling into a new home.
I again enjoyed reading the whole story from the perspective of Calle's journal. The way the author chose to write this book was so facinating to me. It also is good as a quick read if you need one for your Goodreads challenge.
I found parts of the story to be a little sad. It must have been so hard back then for people to survive.
I hope to find the last of these book one day.
A 5 star read, and recommend for anyone who loves historical fiction!
I understand the message the author was trying to get across in this book, but once again she distracted me with a non-stop stream of tears. The characters were constantly crying, holding back tears, had tear-filled eyes, etc. In 242 pages, there were (and yes, I counted them--because there were so many in the last book that I was curious)--47 mentions like the above. It's a shame, because there are some really good characters in this series. Two stars.
An excellent Christian novel written to theme the life in the 1870's of a family and their friends as they brave with wilderness life with Faith and prayer. I would recommend to a friend.
