Yes, my heart was once again brutally ripped out played with and then put back. This book was awesome but all I want to do now is cuddle up and cry.

An apocalyptic conclusion that threatens the very existence of Nocturne. The trilogy comes to an end and the Salamanders will clash with the anvil of Chaos.
While the plot is decidedly good, the book gets lost in Kyme's declarative and sententious tone, and the abundance of characters doesn't help matters.

En Nocturne, el respeto al trasfondo es inexistente, los personajes no tienen personalidad, las descripciones no son gran cosa, pero te presenta abundante acción más o menos bien hilvanada. Dentro de su reducida calidad en la franquicia, resulta ser el mejor de su trilogía.

Nocturne es la obra con la que culmina la Trilogía del Libro de Fuego, una epopeya ambientada en el universo de Warhammer 40.000 creado por Games Workshop que tiene como eje central a uno de los capítulos de los Marines Espaciales fieles al Emperador, el de los Salamandras. La novela se puede leer como una obra separada —yo mismo no había leído las dos entregas precedentes y no las eché en falta—, pero se percibe claramente que en ella confluyen todas las tramas presentadas con anterioridad. Además, en casi la totalidad de los casos, estas se cierran de un modo expeditivo. Es la apoteosis.
Los capítulos de Marines Espaciales son de las fuerzas más poderosas que se pueden encontrar en este universo, y una trama que implica a la práctica totalidad de uno de ellos e incluso a su mundo de origen —que es el que da nombre al libro— exige unas Proporciones Épicas. Así, con mayúscula en ambas dos. Nick Kyme es un veterano de este trasfondo y es plenamente consciente de ello, así que pone toda la carne en el asador y la sazona a conciencia: señores de capítulo, luchas orbitales entre flotas, veteranos en armadura dreadnought, demonios del Inmaterium, asesinos xenos, profecías imposibles, estirpes malditas, venganzas ancestrales...
La acción es el vehículo general de la trama. Apenas arranca la historia, tenemos combates y confrontaciones sin pausa. Como reza el eslogan, todo es guerra. Aun así, Kyme se las apaña para que no resulte monótono el desarrollo. Algo hipertrofiado, sí, sobre todo en cuanto a momentos épicos y emotivos: con un reparto de protagonistas tan amplio y de tal naturaleza, todos tienen que tener su frase lapidaria y eso, al final, resta intensidad al conjunto. De todas formas, en ningún momento decae la atención o el ritmo. Incluso los momentos de confusión entre personajes —algo casi inevitable si no conoces el trasfondo de los Salamandras— son mínimos y puntuales, para mi sorpresa.
Los protagonistas quedan bien definidos a pesar de que apenas queden momentos para la introspección. El autor ha decidido utilizar el conflicto incluso en los momentos de pausa para trazar a los personajes, y consigue que esta mecánica funcione. Asistimos a las cuitas internas y deseos de unos y otros a medida que avanza la narración, a las dudas frente a los mitos y a la incertidumbre a la hora de alzarse como uno, y se nos hace partícipes de ese registro algo excesivo pero muy sugerente que es marca de la casa.
Sí que alguno de los hilos argumentales se podría haber cerrado con más calma e intensidad —no deja de ser paradójico que, siendo toda Nocturne una suerte de escena final, se perciba cierta precipitación en algunos momentos claves del tercio final—, pero el resultado global es satisfactorio y la lectura, ante todo, entretenida: el libro se lee de un par de sentadas a pesar de su extensión.
En resumen, una novela ejecutada con acierto que incluye un buen puñado de los elementos que hacen sugerente el universo de Warhammer 40.000 —eldars oscuros, marines espaciales, renegados del caos, confrontaciones épicas, escenarios extremos, épica desbordante— y los entrelaza a ritmo de martillo de guerra sin concesiones. La edición de Scyla – Timun Mas cuenta con una buena traducción, que, por desgracia, se ve algo empañada hacia el final por el aumento de erratas, y una magnífica portada obra de Cheoljoo Lee.

So, the third instalment in the Salamanders-series. I concludes the Salamnders trilogy box set so it would seem that it is the end of the story. But this is not necessarily the case. It is possible to swtop reading after this one as I don't see why every question should be answered before a series ends but on the other hand there are a few storylines that really make sequels possible.

Anyway the book was really enjoyable. It seems the first book was a bit clunky with unnecessary difficult terms and stuff like that but there is none of that in this third book. The story is interesting and at points surprising. Also the main characters a quite nicely written although this is not high literature by any measure. Also strange is that the main character of the first book, Da'kir is not very closely followed in this third book... But it's actually nice to see how the story evolves as the writer writes. Maybe you just can't help the focus changing? Again there are the problems with some twists being too quick to happen...

But all in all I recommend this book.

I had to mull over my thoughts about this book for a few days, as it left me feeling rather conflicted.

A lot happens in this one, much of it is high octane action packed combat with a lot of grit. But it is not the best Space Marine book, nor the worst. It is just that the main characters are barely part of the book, the side characters introduced are barely of interest, the few that are of interest are treated poorly.

Book felt rushed, a lot of build up for a very rushed ending.

Giving the book 3 stars, as i was very tempted to give it just 2, simply because of how the entire fight the Firedrakes had, was just invalidated and how Tu'Shan was sort of treated badly. A Chapter Master deserves better.

But ill give the book 3 stars as i didnt hate the book, for the most part.

Definitely the best book in the series......

However some strange activity with the main character here it was like a 90’s action movie.....

Although overall decent read, if you’re interested in the salamander chapter the series is worth a read but there are definitely better space marine chapter books out there.

The best book in the series. It mixed action, a lot of parallel tracks, exagerations and superstition. More or less what one can hope for. At a time, there were too many characters, but bolter fire and thunder hammers took care of that.

All occurences of "stoic" is now replaced with "pragmatic". :-)

7)I chose this quote because it helps to understand Tsu'gan's loyalty to his old master. He had tried desperately to stay loyal to his chapter and to force a barb through the mind shackles grip on him.
This quote shows trust because the other chapter captains have to trust the Chapter master's decision about letting Dak'ir live.
8)The population that would most enjoy this book is those who are interested in war and science fiction. I say this because the book is about war, and is set 38,000 years in the future.

Ce roman ne se conclut pas aussi bien que l’on aurait aimé mais c’est peut-être pour le mieux ? Une suite serait logique selon moi. Le livre se lit très facilement et le florilège de personnages est réellement sa force. Un livre abouti qui satisfera la plupart, Nick Kyme associé aux Salamanders est désormais une valeur sûre.

The first and second part of the trilogy pay off in the third book. Now that we have come to know and love the major characters they are embroiled in an Apocalypse level attack headed by the renegade Dragon Warriors against the Salamander's homeworld, Nocturne. This is a good book as it moves from one group of characters to another, pretty fairly, and is more or less non-stop action with an open ending. It passed the time on the train.

See my review of book 1 - this one is very good, but not quite as steady as 1 or as gripping as 2. I liked the ending, but it could be argued that there are a LOT of loose ends, and what is tied up is a little rushed.
