A necessity for anyone regularly practicing aromatherapy in the household and on the body. This book is so easy to read, to the point and precise. A explanation of a basic essential oils are in the first chapters and then there are just so many easy recipes for DIY. I have used many of the recipes in this book, so much so that I have them down by memory! An excellent beginners guide.
It's alright, probably a bit dated as far as advice though. A lot of the advice is good, but some advice for recipes isn't safe, like not using emulsifiers and adding oils to water. The recipes are good though, and would definitely be beneficial to have on hand for quick recipes. Just be wary of some dated advice and update for safety.
This Book is not a novel, it's more like a recipe book. Think of it as a reference manual. I refer to it whenever I want to solve something or create something. You can find the perfume recipe in under a minute and get to the real thing enjoying the new aromatic formula.
While this wasn't a particullary "good read"...meaning it didn't keep me up at night. I did find some of the recipes helpful and jotted down a lot of notes for further research. While it does seem somewhat outdated (1994), I did like the cross reference in the back of the book which listed syptoms and oils that can be used to treat them. That section was very helpful. I saw this book of a starting point for my research in deciding if essential oils are right for me.
This was good, was not an in depth book about essential oils, basically it was quick recipes that the author used for different issues, which was fine. At the very end she does list the essential oils and gives you a brief descriptions of what each one can be used for.
Wouldn't recommend for a beginner just starting out, but if you want a some quick ideas for different issues, then this would be good to have on hand.
I have used this book as a reference for formulas a little bit. I like it in conjunction with an encyclopedia of oils that I had checked out of the library. I like that there are so many formulas with several listed under each topic so that you can pick the oils that appeal to you most when you are concocting!
For people who are already familiar with using essential oil and making formulas, this would be a good reference to have for ideas. I wouldn't recommend it to beginners, since it only really lists the ingredients and not much else.
