"I mean I care about Kurose-kun, so I do want to know what happened. But only if he wants me to know it and I don't want to hear it from someone else. I want to hear it in Kurose-kun's own words."
SQUEALS!! This volume was WONDERFUL!
While I did enjoy volume one a lot (purely because of how funny it was), I had deep reservations about Kei and felt like his little sister was his "saving grace" in me not completely disliking his character.
However, this volume has me officially locked in because I LOVE how we see his backstory as it gives a glimpse as to why he acts the way he does! Not just that though (which was amazing!), but if I'm really honest, I LOVEDDDDDD all his cute blushy moments!! That was exactly what I was looking for in this series originally!! Now that I'm seeing more into why Kei acts the way he does and a lot of super cute moments, I will definitely be keeping up with future volumes! EEEEPPP!!
I adore Mugi and how she took her own small steps in being brave! However, my heart really hurt for her because of what her "friend" did. That was horrible!! I'm thankful Mugi is making friends even if they are with people she wouldn't have expected!
The last chapter was a blast and definitely was fangirling!!! Really really enjoyed this volume and all the many fun and cute moments it had! VERY eager to read more!
I think it says something about the somewhat traditional (read: banal) nature of the first volume of this series that, despite liking it well enough, I completely forgot I had actually read it.
Anyway, here we are at the second volume, and, while I promise to try and recall having read it, I’m older and these things happen. It won’t be for lack of interest that I miss the third volume though.
No, this one doesn’t quite roar from the start, but it putters along nicely. The resolution of the not-entirely-gripping blackmail plotline actually turns out to be something a little meatier than ‘it was a random girl’.
In fact, it delivers a bit of a blow to poor Mugi’s plans for her high school life, which lets Kei step up a little bit. It’s nice to see him doing the right thing, although he complains about it incessantly like the good tsundere he is.
I wouldn’t call any of this elegantly done, but it’s all pretty solid. I was genuinely impressed that the fallout of the blackmail isn’t just hand waved away and everything set to right. Admittedly, the reason is kind of ‘only in manga’, but it has a pretty funny payoff that is pure lack of recognizance.
Anyway, this cleverly lets more boys onto the scene, the bread and butter for this sort of thing. What it also does, very smartly, is bring back Kei’s sister, Mitsuki, and explore Kei’s own situation a little more.
This results in a great moment for Mugi that was the most interesting she’s been this entire series. It also gets her a bit closer to Kei, and I like the way their relationship is slowly progressing with both their tentative steps. There’s a very obvious move at the end of this section by Kei, but it’s still solid.
There’s a noticeable progression in many things, honestly, not just the relationship. I appreciate how Mugi stands up for herself, or at least has an actual opinion, later on. And the latest plot development is pretty good too (upgrading the boy content officially to ‘gaggle’).
Even the moments where I think Kei’s a clod, and he’s learning to open up as slowly as possible, work out okay. I was prepared to given him a good slam for duping Mugi over his favour until the omake points out that she was the problem there.
If this didn’t grab you with its initial volume, I don’t know that it will offer enough here to change your mind. Still, I gave it the old second volume and came away pleasantly surprised with what it managed to achieve.
3.5 stars - about the same as last time, but rounded up for being rather better where it counts. Overall, nothing new, but it has some interesting ideas buried in the margins that make it worth a look.
I know that shoujos all start to look alike after a while but for some reason, this one stands out to me, even if it’s kind of a basic plot. It’s still so adorable and sweet and I eat it up. Highly recommend!
I swear I must hate the beginning of most stories but this definitely got better!!! Kurose is so cold and aloof but when he blushed, my heart exploded LOL.
The way I thought he’s gonna cut her hair lol I just love them hanging out together like that. I know I’m still pretty early in the manga but I like the dynamics already and I love this manga. It’s a great breather from writing my undergraduate thesis T^T

Aww he was worried about her T-T And I can’t get over how cute Miyao is!

Not him blushing T^T

I find it cute whenever MMCs scratch the back of their heads bashfully like that.

Ngl I was confused for a second reading the last scene, but what a cute way to end the volume!
Idk man. I thought I would eat this up because my friend Vicky made me really excited for it, but I don't know what happened or where I went wrong. He continues to be really rude to her even when she was literally helping him out with his job. She doesn't even stand up for herself afterwards, or even gets mad, so I'm starting to get mad for her. Ugh, she literally is like the sweetest person ever, and he is only occasionally nice to her. Maybe I'm a little salty because his glasses didn't make an appearance again in this volume, because glasses are in my top 5 highest weaknesses in guys.
O. M. G. ヾ(*’O’*)/ I laughed so hard through this volume! Me, settling into bed read a bit before sleeping, and then the book hits me upside the giggler with the photo booth! (My poor husband trying to sleep...) And it didn't let up, because if I wasn't laughing then I was fangirl squealing. This volume is fantastic. Love the characters. Love the story. Love the pace. Love the humor. Love. Love. Love.
This book had me smiling so much, there was part where I thought that Kurose was being too mean, but the ending chapter was perfect, absolutely chef's kiss.
Cute and fluffy. An overly honest male lead and a female lead who is trying to figure herself out in the world and gain confidence. Nothing earth shattering but this is cute and fun.
