Jordan has always disapproved of Gwyneth. They can't be in the same room without arguing... or kissing. One night, they make love. It's only the next morning that she realizes he was delirious from fever and doesn't even remember their night together. He thinks she is involved with his brother, making Gwyneth wonder if Jordan will believe her when she tells him their night has lasting consequences.
If I listed all the things wrong with this short story, my review would be longer than the story itself. It's less than 30 pages, so it's not like it wasted a lot of my time, but it's just not well written at all. I'm sure this author has potential, but she needed to attend a writing workshop or twelve and get some harsh feedback before publishing. Or even have someone with a little bit of writing-- or even reading-- experience proof it. The dialogue was stiff and weird. Based on how they spoke, I originally thought this took place in 19th century England, but it was modern day San Francisco. And I realize this is picky, but "...we changed the subject to other things..." is redundant. Because, you know, if you changed the subject to the same things, you didn't really change the subject, did you?
This short story kind of reminded me of a Harlequin Present romance.
I think the author has promise.
One of the issues I had was I got confused as the story went as to who was who and had to go back in the story to figure out where they were in the story.
It was amazing how much the author managed to get into the story in a 9 month period of time. It is difficult to write a story of 8500 words and not make it rushed.
I rated it as a 3 because to me it was a story not something that I got into. I would like to read more from this author in something of this vein.
This was kind of ridiculous. The story was good but this couple werent together AT ALL except for the one time they sleep together in his fevered state. Literally he wasnt friendly to her until 92% in the story. There was no buildup of "maybe he does" Again this story would have benefited being just a bit longer. Not a bad read but not a complete read and not worth .99
