In DESTINED (Book #4 in the Vampire Journals), Caitlin Paine wakes to discover herself back in time. She finds herself in a cemetery, on the run from a mob of villagers, and seeks refuge in the ancient cloisters of Assisi, in the countryside of Umbria, Italy. This is less of a review and more of a plea to the author... Contains information about the 4 books currently released in the series. I do hope that the Morgan Rice reads this review.
I am not sure if you have an editor or are doing the editing yourself. If it is yourself the books are your vision and if we the reader can notice the discrepancies then it would be obvious to the Author. Also if you have an editor, fire them, they must be screwing with your work. If you don't have an editor please have your work looked at by several trusted people to find the most obvious mistakes. Not only were there major timeline and storyline issue but simple word placement, misspellings, and wrong words throughout. These issues that have a simple fix truly ruin an amazing premise.
Storyline & Timeline issues:
Major issue is with Caleb/Sera's marriage. Book #1 it is stated that the marriage was 800 years ago. Book #2 & #3 was listed at 600 years ago. By Book #4 they show up happily with their son Jade only 300 yrs ago in Venice. Since Sera could only conceive Jade while still human it makes it all the worse. Easiest fix is to change all the marriage times to 300 years prior throughout the series.
Major issue #2: Polly. In Book #3 we are introduce to Polly, she tells us her story. Dropped off at Pollepel Island as a small child, raised by Aidan & the Pollepel coven. Named for said island & coven. Yet in Book #4 Caitlin stumbles upon her in an alley during an attempted rape and ultimately we are taken to Aidan's coven which is now located in Venice. Even though it is 1790 in this time it still does not account for Polly or the coven's whereabouts. It was stated the Pollepel Island was since the dawn of time as a sacred place to vampires that even the Native American would not enter the island. So 1790 or not does not account for the coven or Polly in Venice. Simple fix go back to book 3 change up the story by adding that this particular coven left to Venice for a time period after Polly was of age.
Problems with Book 1: Most readers had issue with the way Caitlin was in love with both Jonah & Caleb, especially in the end of the book . I realize that Caitlin is a teen, but she had lived a hard life without a father. Saw her mother go through endless romances to the detriment of her and her brother. So at 18 she would not be your typical boy crazy girl, more of a grown woman. Yet she displays the emotions towards boys as if she were a tween. She knew Jonah a matter of hours in total and was infatuated with him to the point of picking out curtains. Then she meets Caleb and forgets about the love of her life Jonah, within an hour she is upset that Caleb isn't in love with her and may or may not love his wife. Come on, if he didn't love his wife what kind of man is he? Not the type I would want. & my feelings wouldn't be hurt by a Man of 3000 yrs of age that has a wife. 1 hour after she meets this man she professes undying love for him. & to my total disgust 2 pages later he admits his love for her as well. I wanted to stop reading right there, never to read anything you wrote again. & for a fact many readers did. You lost a lot of readers because of this. My fix for this REMOVE the I loved yous from this book. Have them start a friendship that obviously grows in book 2 as book 2 was written. It will be more realistic and honest.
Also, Caitlin's mother is killed by Kyle in this book. Caitlin never mourns her loss and it's barely mentioned again. Caitlin never tells her brother Sam of her death either. Fix, add a scene in book 2 where she tells Sam about the death. It will prove that Sam & Caitlin have a close relationship and it will allow us readers to feel that the characters are not one dimensional.
This book had the least of the misspellings and word placement.
Book 2: I will say that I loved the imagination that went into this book also the research of the history. With all of that work it was lessened by the mistakes. To spend that much time and not fix these simple things baffles me. Only one issue with the story, Caitlin's constant internal dialog about Caleb. Remove half of it and the romance would seem possible and their night on the beach would be a surprise for readers. A lot of misplacement of words such as "Caitlin turned and smiled at Caitlin." Caitlin has a clone several times throughout the rest of the series. Plus spell check changed several words in to others. Also where did Caleb's issue with Caitlin's humanity come from? She is already a half breed more vampire then human. Has to drink blood to survive and has killed during bloodlust. It is WAY too late for that worry! I will not say the name of the Author that was being channeled during that storyline blip.
Book 3: not much to say about that since it now felt right for Caitlin to love Caleb and I enjoyed the betrayed part, made it realistic, like they had to work to be able to say "I LOVE YOU" I enjoyed the new characters and the storyline. This is where the author shines. Editing was the disaster! Also the vampires on Pollepel Island with the exception of Aidan all act as teenagers. Where they may have been turned as teens some are thousands of years of age. they would not act as such or wish to be treated as such. I understand that they would not fit into other covens. That makes sense. They are NOT children so written that way is annoying. While Polly's personality is childish, is should be her personality not her age that effects her behavior.
Book 4: Major issue: While Caitlin, Kyle, and Sam all travel back in time they remember who they are. Where-as Caitlin & Sam were never in 1790's Venice, Kyle had been. This is my issue, Caleb also traveled back where he was in Venice living the life he lived in that time as if the next 300 years haven't happened. But Kyle "on the other hand" (lol) just dropped in as his 2011 self. HUH? Also we are told that "vampires" can only travel backward in time, but Kyle says twice he can't wait to kill Caitlin and return to 2011 New York City. HUH?
"ON THE OTHER HAND" & sometimes there wasn't even another hand after. Was in this book countless times in Caitlin's internal dialog. If this were a drinking game I would have had alcohol poisoning. Once it was twice in a paragraph. Editor needed!
Jade: His coffin is in the Cloister's in New York. Sera prayed upon it before going to battle in the end of book 3, yet he is buried on the isle of dead at Aidan's coven.
Caitlin was cloning herself a lot again, including Caleb changing to Caitlin in an entirely different scene. Also Sera was named Samantha 2 times during a battle near the end of the book. Some sentences had words that didn't go in them, like madlibs.
This book the storyline and plot were thin. Too much visual description, which was a total change to the concise description of the earlier books. I found myself skimming, something I frown upon, especially in a short book.
With all this said, I love the series. I want the Author to fix this stuff and it would be amazing! The main plot is tight, the history research is concise. The series premise has a lot of promise. I want to know what happens next. A lot of readers do not have as much patience as I do and will give up on the story out of frustration with all that is amiss with it. Morgan Rice fix this not only for your readers but for yourself, let your true Vision shine. Thank You!

Move aside, Dan Brown. Morgan Rice has entered the chat
~The spoiler list~
- The Catholic church is actually full of vampires. Catholicism itself seems to be about vampires.
- Forget every single backstory from any previous book. They are all rewritten with wanton abandon

- Caitlin is a homewrecker
- Apparently the vampires in this aren’t forever young, except when they are.
- Caitlin is told about 3 times what to do and where to go to save the world, but she ignores that and pursues Caleb, even though she was told not to because it wouldn’t end well. She forgets this and wonders what her mission is and where she’s supposed to go.
- Because she doesn’t listen to anyone, she is inadvertently the reason why Caleb’s son dies. She is also the reason Rose, her malnourished wolf, dies, and not just because she never feeds her and constantly abandons her in random places without a second thought (but like a video game sidekick, somehow shows up after the cutscene)
- Blake, the other love interest whose name I forgot in the last book, be like:
- Despite the new setting, there are no significant new characters. Everyone who was living in the East Coast of the United States in 2011 was in Italy in the 1700s
- Everyone wants to date Caitlin, including Kyle
- The celebrity cameo in this book is Mozart, who seems to be the only piano player available at a 7 hour long party
- Caitlin discusses how no one has ever bathed in their entire life and probably don’t have baths available to them because of the prehistoric times of the 1700s, and then she takes a bath while living in the 1700s
- She says that she feels bad only for leaving Blake, but not Polly who definitely thinks they’re best friends even though Caitlin honestly couldn’t care less about her
- Caitlin fears explaining to anyone that she came from the future even though time travel is a well-known and accepted aspect of vampire life in this series
- To collect all the infinity stones and save the world, Caitlin has to go even further back in time, where her Waldo of a father is supposedly waiting for her
- Caleb seems to have always hated his wife Sera. What a loving and wonderful man
- He also seems to have forgotten who his wife is, as she's named Samantha (who is the only major character to not appear in this book from the previous books) for about a chapter inexplicably
- The ending is also almost exactly the same as Slave, Warrior, Queen. Caitlin might secretly be Ceres.

“Fact […] For the first time in history, there was no longer gender inequality.”said about late 1700’s Venice. This is false on many levels. The entirety of the story proves this point as she and other women are sexually harassed by a multitude of men in Venice. The only instance of this supposed gender equality is that there is cross dressing.

What's happening
As I've said in my previous reviews on this series I read this over a year ago and never intended to review, in fact I couldn't forgive myself for being such an idiot and buying all the books then saving them to read together making it too late to get a refund.
This book is littered with mistakes and not just little ones we're talking wrong names used and everything in fact there's nothing in this book to suggest that it was even checked before it was put out.

Now the biggest issue with these books is the spelling and grammar and the fact that Rice mixes up characters, alongside skipping huge chunks of time.
Like how did Kyle and Sam go back in time? How did they know that's where Caitlin went?
Also HUGE ISSUE HERE - Why the hell does Polly say they have lived in Venice for hundreds of years in this book but in book 3 she told Caitlin she was dropped off at Pollepel when she was a baby and that's why she is called Polly?? Inconsistencies and changing story lines....Frustrating!
However having said all that, I still find myself wanting to continue reading....

I'm starting to get a little impatient with Caitlin since she seems to just keep ignoring her mission. Glad Caleb was able to remember and thank goodness Sam finally had a sense into him. Great read but once again it felt like the story ended again so sudden. Sigh. Nonetheless, i'm looking forward (once again) for the next adventure and now it seems that she has more keys to find.

I don’t know why I keep reading / listening to this series at least a dozen times a book I yell out loud at it Either at the lead female for being so dumb or selfish or some other character being stupid or completely ridiculous. I was determined to finish series but I just realized how many books it is and I just can’t. I’m going to maybe look at the next couple to see if they get better but.....The writing is extremely weak and I originally thought it was done by someone in high school . I never ever give less than three stars and that’s rare to but I don’t want others to waste their time. Maybe if you are 11 or so these will work for you but any serious reader do not bother.

Despite this being not a completely bad story, I found myself unmotivated compared to some book series I have read. The story is interesting enough to keep you reading through the first few books, but I have personally found myself unsure whether it's worth paying to find out where it leads.
Let's start with the main meat of the book. There are so many errors in the book it becomes distracting! Whatever she paid the editor of this book, wasn't worth it. There are tons of editing errors. More importantly, let's focus on the main character of the story. Now, the main character *should* be the one that drives you to want to see where the story goes, but for me...I just wanted Kyle to end her, too. She's a brat, and not a fun one. She's self-centred. If she had listened instead of following her...well, she says heart, I say her wanton desire for Caleb...then she would have saved herself and those in her life a great deal of heartache! She even went as far as destroying a part of the man she claimed to love by going back in time without thought to her unborn baby. Let's start with the main meat of the book. There are so many errors in the book it becomes distracting! Whatever she paid the editor of this book, wasn't worth it. There are tons of editing errors. More importantly, let's focus on the main character of the story. Now, the main character *should* be the one that drives you to want to see where the story goes, but for me...I just wanted Kyle to end her, too. She's a brat, and not a fun one. She's self-centred. If she had listened instead of following her...well, she says heart, I say her wanton desire for Caleb...then she would have saved herself and those in her life a great deal of heartache! She even went as far as destroying a part of the man she claimed to love by going back in time without thought to her unborn baby. I did not like this book as well as the others in the series. Too many inconsistencies, mistakes, and other issues. I also have a huge issue with Catlin not knowing her own feelings by now. She is not learning from past mistakes, and is not entirely sure of herself. After 4 books, I'd like to see her make up her mind on Caleb, or Blake. Catlin also needs to focus on what is most important, and that's finding her father and the shield.

I loved this book!! I cant wait for the next one!!!i couldnt put it down. I finished it in one day!!!! I highly recommend!

3.5 Estrellas de 5 Estrellas.
Veamos, la historia se está desarrollando muy amplia y basta. El Lore que la autora creo para sus vampiros es bastante interesante, ya que metió hasta a el vaticano como parte de la raza vampírica.
La trama en este libro se siente un poco rara, no se explicarme...se siente más como un libro de transición, un poco relleno, pero al mismo tiempo para mostrarte sucesos que no se pueden cambiar(?).
Originalmente le había dado 4 Estrellas, pero en este libro las decisiones de Caitlin me desesperaron bastante. Su desarrollo fue casi nulo y ahora resulta que a todos les gusta ella. No lo se, fue un poco raro...
Sin embargo el arco de Blake y Polly fue muy bonito, aunque pasará lo que pasó.
El arco de Caleb, Jade y su esposa fue fuerte y después de eso puedes entender el por qué de su forma de ser de la esposa de Caleb en los libros anteriores.
Sin duda hay personajes como Jonah, Blake y la reportera que me dejaron con ganas de saber más de ellos. En su momento los pinto como un personaje relevante y después ya no salieron más...pero bueno, vamos en el libro 4 de 12 así que aún hay esperanza de que las preguntas que tengo se respondan.
Me entretuvo, aunque si me decepcionó un poco, tanto el ritmo como el hecho de que este está narrado por una voz de Google, ya que los estoy leyendo en formato audiolibro. Y se nota el bajón de la expresividad en la narrativa.
Aún asi, como siempre Morgan Rice la a vuelto a hacer y te deja atrapado con querer saber que sigue, el final siempre es así y eso es un amor/odio con la autora.
Lo que si, hay un par de puntos malos o que se sienten a conveniencia de la trama, pero lo sabe compensar de cierta manera con el mundo/Lore que creó. Así que seguiré con la saga lo antes posible. Ahora bien ¿Recomiendo el libro? Bueno, si eres fan de los vampiros es un sí, pero si lo tuyo es más acción y menos acertijos, te recomiendo buscar algo más.

Starting to really feel the repeating manner in the writing style. The same questions seem to come all the time. The same dreams. There is variation (enough to continue interest in the plot) but that feeling of repetition is very strong in these books that are pretty short. (They keep getting longer from book one to now) I am also finding myself struggling at times with the writing and errors like so many other people have brought up. Some of it is easily enough to see what it was supposed to be but the extra words or missing words at times sucks.
Time travel is never my strong point. The whole concept just gets me confused. Like most books this one states that things she does in the past can change things in the future but like I don't get how it works because we already met her in the future and she was who she was after the time of the past so like ugh... just one of those things that's always hard for me to wrap my head around. (I feel like we are going to be In the past a long time which I hope shows changes when she gets back to her time.)
I actually found myself really liking the time period and overall setting. Wish I could go visit (in current day) Venice and Florence.
I get why she did what she did but I felt so much of the story was just filler based on her relationships. (And was it really necessary for all that with Blake? Did it have to occur in this book for any reason that will come later because it in my opinion felt out of place and made the end of the book where the pieces fell into place feel rushed. Maybe the book could have just focused on Cable and her and left out Blake. She didn't need another love interest anyways....)

The unspoiled version: umm what is happening in this book?
The spoiled version: how did this book come to be when the whole timeline is so messed up from the previous books? How are Caleb and Sera married with a son when we previously learned that they were married 700 years ago? How is Jade buried on that island when in the previous book, Sera prays over him in New York? Why is Polly here? We learned that she was dropped off on Pollepel Island as a baby and named after the island itself. She even mentions in the previous books that she's never left the island. So why does she exist when the island doesn't.. and in an entirely different part of the world? I'm so confused. The storyline has so much potential but it's not living up to the way Throne for Sisters was written. I'm going to continue to push through the series to see how it all ends but, this was by far the most disappointing book in the series thus far.

Anxious for the story's end
Aching to get to the end of a story is what keeps most book lovers reading... And when the ending is expected to bring resolution then anxiety to finish is like feigning for a fix... of whatever your weakness is.
The typos and redundancy in this book have not stopped me from wanting to find out what happens to Caitlin, her brother, and her true love. As a fan of all mystical creatures, I am both intrigued and annoyed by the liberties taken in describing vampires.
If you're a die-hard fan of vampire "facts" then this may not be the book for you. However, if you've read this far you'll want to keep going. Kyle's pursuit of Caitlin brings out the warrior in her, Sam's thoughts are revealed, and Caitlin finally understands Caleb's previous life.

I love all the Vampire journals, but I have never read a book by Morgan Rice that I didn't like, well some I LOVED, others my husband really enjoyed. I can't believe how you are able to give free books, except that before you know it I have purchased all 12!! I'm a really big fan and know that you will continue to write excellent novel's. Just wish the library would carry your books.

What makes Morgan Rice's The Vampire Journals intriguing is the unpredictable plot turns. The main character, Caitlin, undergoes an epic quest to find the allusive sword and shield. In so doing, she discovers her own nature along with other characters' natures as well. There are several characters, from Blake, Aidan, Caleb, who come and go who seem illusive. That is, their true motives remain a mystery at times and Caitlin has to engage in some guess-work in figuring the best course of action. This series has it all--suspense, romance, horror, gothic, and even a sense of sci-fi as Caitlin undergoes her epic quest to find true love and bring all together.

Oh man, I have so much to say about this book. First of all, this series is so good and i cant wait to read the next book. I am hooked. I got a little frustrated with caitlin, because she is so worried about caleb. I don't like the fact that she feels like she needs caleb to accomplish anything. I liked her with blake, she was more confident. I also wonder if aiden is her father. I cant wait to start the next one. So far, my favorite is still betrayed which is book 3.

Thrilling story where she ends up finding friends and loses others. They end up in Italy and when she finds Caleb but he’s with Sara and shares a child. Jade ends up with Caitlin’s necklace and Rose for a short time. Her brother also arrives in the past to help her fight Kyle. Once more they have to jump time in search of their father.

Muy buena continuación de esta saga de vampiros. Las secuencias entre cada episodio muy bien llevadas a cabo. Buenos giros inesperados en la trama. Un buen final del libro para mantenerte con el interés de seguir leyendo más. Le doy 4/5 estrellas o un 9.2/10

This book felt predictable. It made me question if I should continue with the next book. I am going to give book number 5 a chance but I am still unsure about where the plot is going from here. The first three books were much better.

This book did not disappoint!! And I say I'm not really good at writing reviews cause I never know what to say, but I can say this book/series is amazingly awesome!! I can't wait to continue on the journey with these amazing characters and see what comes next!!

I felt like this book was a little slower than the first few. The typos and the mistakes in characters identities was quite a lot. It felt like maybe it was rushed and not proofed as thorough as it should have been.

it was edited better, but there was still phrasing that made no sense. I am also see a big plot whole so far unless patched of in a later book i don't know how i missed the holes in this series from the start i guess the older i get the more i'm paying attention to what i'm reading and fulling seeing it for what it is. Now i won't say it complete garbage Because it not i do like some of the Characters and Yes i'm mad about what happen to my Favorite one but i'll get over it. i'm not sure if I'll do a full review on my blog or not still putting my thoughts together.

Me entretuve bastante con los giros que tomo la historia, en este nuevo inicio, nueva trilogía, tenemos amor, acción, drama, suspenso y mucha sangre. Hasta sangre blanca 😱😂😁
