I love a good probe into Thoreau's thought life, into his inspirations, into that transcendental world that informed his writings and his life. This book does just that.
I used this book for a research paper about Thoreau's valuing exploration-- in both interior and exterior forms-- of the unknown and its connection to moral values. Paul's writing is compelling, and he manages to provide biographical information about Thoreau alongside information about his spiritual and moral development. Paul clearly has a deep reverence for Thoreau's life and works, and it shows in this book. Overall, a sympathetic and enlightening examination of one of my favorite authors.
