This is the story of a heroine who has been wronged by her cheating (now dead) husband and a hero who has loved her from afar for seven years. The only problem is that the hero is the cheating husband's brother and the heroine is slow to trust him as he tries to help her with her debts, her in-vitro pregnancy, and the humiliation of having her husbands affairs being made public.

It's the perfect angsty set-up. Heroine loses everything. So why didn't I like it better?

1. Ingratitude. The heroine was beyond ungrateful for the hero's help at first.

2. Brave victim overload. Not only is the heroine downtrodden, the hero also gets the brave victim treatment - as we get his backstory of being unloved as a child from the office manager of all people.

3. Pregnancy details. My goodness, that girl threw up a lot.

4. Two brothers, one wife. The heroine with two brothers squicked me out.

So by the end when the heroine finds out and then leaves for a week, I was about done with the story. After everything they had been through, that seemed an OTT reaction from the heroine.

I think I would have liked this better with all the elements dialed back just a hair with less telling by the author. Also, hiding the hero's point of view would have been much more effective, imo. I wanted to experience *with* the heroine what it feels like to discover someone has loved you all along. Instead, I felt like I was on the outside looking in.

The book was great and it would've been a 5 star if not for Emily's behavior at the end.

Emily's had quite a few shock in her life lately. She finally managed to get pregnant, then her husband died in a fire with his mistress and as the icing on the cake she found out that Keith (the lying, cheating husband) spent all of the money leaving her with debts. Luckily, there's Dillon, her brother-in-law, to help her deal with everything. I like the fact that she wanted to succed on her own, she refused to take his money and let him take care of her. After spending the last 7 years with a man who never let her do anything on her own she needs to know she can take care of herself. It doesn't help that there's just something about Dillon that rubs her the wrong way.

Dillon was in love with his brother's wife for the last seven years. By trying to cover up his feelings, he shut himself down when he was with Emily leaving her believing he doesn't approve of her. Dillon is a great guy, patient, loving but still respects Emily and her opinions.

Now, the only thing he did wrong was not telling her the truth , but I kind of understand him. He definitely should have admitted the truth, but he was so scared that she will hate him, and in part that it will harm her pregnancy.

But it was Emily's reaction that bothered me the most. She was really upset when she heard and she had every right, but she should have listened to Dillon when she calmed down. But that's too reasonable. What she did is pack her thing and leave with her baby not telling Dillon where she went. He was terrifed, not knowing where she was, if she and the baby he loved so much were OK.

And the ending itself - she went from hating and not willing to listen to "I love you" just like that. And it would've been nice if Dillon was the one to explain everything, not Gert.

It is because of Emily's behavior at the end that though I loved Dillon and the story as much as I did, this one doesn't get a full 5 star rating.

Stuff I liked:

1- Dillon Maguire. If there is anyone who has read this story and not fallen for him then obviously there is something wrong with them! Dillon is manhood personified not just because of his intense and broody good looks and his multi-millionaire status or because of his tortured soul, those things do help, but it is because of how well he takes care of Emily regardless of the fact whether his love and feelings are welcomed by her or not that clinches the deal with Dillon. He puts each and every need of Emily above his, and I do not say this lightly and because of that very fact, my heart ached each and every time for the position Keith had put him in, even in death trying to cheat him from getting what he wants more than anything else in life.

2- I loved the roller coaster of emotions that coursed through me when I lost myself in this story. Love and an overwhelming feeling of protectiveness towards Dillon, the need to slap Dillon’s mother senseless a time or two and then some, dislike towards Dillon’s elder sister Charlotte for her holier-than-thou attitude at times and a deep respect for Gert, the only woman in my opinion who truly deserves Dillon’s love and affection in this novel.

3- The intense sexual tension in the story. Though this book doesn’t contain much of scenes of the bedroom variety, the slow awakening of senses that take place continuously in Emily was in fact much better than any hard and fast sex session could have been, though that wouldn’t have been unwelcome either! ^_^ But this drawn out tension between Dillon and Emily made me dizzy a couple of times and everything in me clamored for them to find joy in each other soon or I would have been the first to undergo self combustion in the Maldives! ^_~

4- For some reason or the other, I can’t help but love the cover of this one. Just the scene of love, warmth and affection it represents touches something deep inside of me. ^_^

Stuff that didn't appeal to me so much:

1- I don’t know why, maybe certain feminist readers may disagree with this but I thoroughly disliked Emily because of how she treated Dillon at the very end. I understand that what he did was not of the norm but Emily never even stopped to think for a second that it was Dillon, the Dillon who had been taking care of her, bestowing upon her his love for the past year or so and that she had never ever felt happier in her life and never more cherished than the time she had spent with Dillon, but the minute she learns of the dreaded truth regarding the paternity of her child, she is all fire and intense anger and goes as far to leave Dillon without even giving him the time to explain. My heart literally broke in two for the hurt that Emily puts Dillon through and in the end it is Gert who has to step in and knock some sense into Emily to make her suddenly realize that Dillon is not Keith and that he would never hurt her and that he had ACTUALLY been in love with her for the past 7 years. *rolls eyes in frustration* That’s why for me, Emily doesn’t really deserve Dillon’s love and unwavering loyalty and affection, because for me, a man like Dillon deserves more, much more than someone like Emily who can just walk away leaving a devastated man behind.

2- I have to agree with the other readers who have taken the time to review this book. The ending was a bit abrupt and sort of leaves the reader hanging. I would have loved to see Emily do a bit of groveling on this one for a change!

A very enjoyable love story about a woman who falls for the wrong brother only to find that her love is betrayed by his infidelity and gambling addiction. It's a story of second chances, forgiveness and having the strength to love again.

I highly recommend.

Ginna Gray just went to the topmost author among my M&B favourites! What a splendid book! I just loved Dillon! Especially Dillon and Emily's teasing banter in the latter part is just a piece of cake! Dillion is so caring, he's just perfect!

This gets 3 stars from me for the ending. You can't resolve the story's conflict in a sentence and then end the book.

A secret love...
Can this book any more perfect? I doubt it.
I can't say enough about this book. Creating perfect characters and storyline is a very hard work and not everyone can write a perfect book.
Dillon: A very serious, hard working who seemed intimidating and remote, handsome and kind.
Emily: A sweet, kind, trusting woman whose heart has been broken really hard. Now she has become hard, bitter, mistrustful who want to be independent and a mother to her baby.

This was a sweet romantic read that left me really happy

I love Dillon!! Who wouldn't??! He's such a great person and quite the alpha male *yummy*

And my heart ached for him

And I hated Keith with a furry that made me wish he was alive so I can strangle him myself!

And I wanted to beat Adele to an inch of her life and then shoot her while she's in agony .. or stab her and watch her bleed out! And I'm usually NOT a violent person!!

So when a book inspires that much emotional turmoil in my I HAVE to give it 5 stars .. it's only fair

I was pleasantly surprised with the book. I was a great story, and I really fell into it. The only thing I can say that I didn't quite like was the end. Not that it was a bad ending, it just felt a bit rushed.
I was a very fast read, and it was easy to love these characters. It's a sweet, nice story, that is worth a read for sure.

A fast read and pretty good for a Silhouette. Emily has been married for 7 years and is finally pregnant with IVF when her husband dies in a fire, together with his mistress. Confronted with debts, Emily is offered help by her brother-in-kaw, Dillon. Emily and Dillon have never been close, but now he is her only help. Before Emily knows, Dillon is a big part of her life. But he has a secret...

This was a quick read. It is not normally a book that I would have bought, but it was in a bag of books that someone gave to me. All in all it was a cute story.

This one is an emotional marathon !

Starts from abject humiliation for the girl who discovers the true colors of her philandering husband. Then moves over to the recovery phase where she puts her life together once again, and learns to how to be a single working mother-to-be.
And finally rests with Emily as a content , happy married woman , blissful in her world of her newly born daughter and adoring husband.

But to view this as Emily's story would be totally unfair, it is actually Dillon's story.

The quiet brother-in-law who silently loves the girl for years. He helplessly watches his brother sweep her off her feet and marry her. He reluctantly comes to the forefront only when his brother is dead.

How he manages the change of heart in Emily - who sees him first as an intimidating, aloof BIL then as a sincere friend and partner through her rebuilding days, and finally as a doting , loving husband.

The final showdown is rather contrived, but well, something dramatic has to happen to bring stagnant situations to closure. So I don't blame the author for using some female histrionics for this purpose.

Why is this not a 5 star, if the review is so positive you may ask. Quite difficult to explain really.

Just that the story is rather realistic and slow paced. And we expect a touch of fantasy and moony romance in our M&B tales. Which is difficult to achieve when the girl is your brother's wife and pregnant throughout the story !!

Nevertheless, engaging read, I was hooked enough to finish it in one sitting ! 4 stars.
