Impromptu

Ailin knew there was something wrong with Garreth the moment his lover arrived with a storm trailing behind him. The man who’d just walked through the front door wasn’t his normally bright and brash Garreth, as if he’d been ensorcelled into someone darker and maybe even a little dangerous. But while Ailin finds the difference disconcerting, he’s also finding it surprisingly, shockingly erotic.

A wonderful short story that deal with one scene and the dynamics of the couple as they work through a problem. For such a small story with so little information provided, I felt like I understood the men's lives perfectly and their situation was flush with detail. This story also holds the award for the Hottest Sex Scene I've ever read! No Kidding!

A beautiful story. Carole Cummings has such a way with words. I'll read anything she writes.

Carole Cummings drops us straight into the middle of Garreth's temper—the man is in a mood. He's been tried beyond patience; his only route to his usual good humor is through his lover, Ailin. "Impromptu" gives us a look at the inevitable, though it could hardly have been planned.

I love an established couple story where each lover discovers something about his lover and possibly about himself. Ailin knows Garreth well – he can predict what set Garreth off and learns what will soothe him. Garreth knows Ailin will go along with it – and wow, it is hot.

This isn't PWP, though much of the word count goes to the very steamy sex. Tiny details paint a full picture of a world where indoor plumbing and central heating have no part, where agriculture is a common livelihood and mass-manufactured goods are unusual. A sentence here and a sentence there show us a dutiful son struggling to keep his feckless father in check. And we see a gorgeously-written slice of a mature relationship where one lover can bring his troubles to the other and gain comfort.

This could easily become a part of a larger work, but I'd just have to bookmark that chapter for standalone peeks.

Although it's very short, the story manages to give us a glimpse in the world and life of Ailin and Gareth. Gareth visits Ailin one night in uncharacteristically bad mood and in need of comfort. And what a comfort he got! Cole wasn't kidding about the Hottest Sex Scene Ever. It wasn't even explicit and the guys still managed to burn the sheets... erm, the door! I tell you, the cold shower was needed. In spite of the low word count, the author managed to show us the men's feelings and give us a sketch of their family situations. The story was hot, it made me smile and, when it ended, all I could think of was - MORE! Highly recommended.

I love what this writer can do with words-- a very full picture of this world and this relationship come through in a short page count. It's a slice of life for Garreth and Ailin; their love and support for one another show very clearly through anger, frustration, and comfort. This story is a comfort read for me--I come back to it when I need something short, steamy, and full of emotion, with beautiful prose. A real keeper.

A quick comforting read with steamy sequence in a bathroom as a plus. I have only read Aislin series by this author before this story, but I could easily imagine this to fit in the same universe as Aislin's quite easily. The push-pull of emotional struggle and trust between Garreth and Ailin even reminds me of the dynamic between Dallin and Wil a little, which is ok because that's why I'm in love with Carole Cummings in addition to her brilliant storytelling and talented writing :)

It reminded me of "Apples and Regret and Wasted Time" by Carole Cummings. Just not as dark. This is a short fiction, and I rather enjoyed it. Most of it is a descriptive sex scene, but it's written rather well - and it's rather intense. I felt, however, that some of this was rather vague. What I found interesting was it was really hard to tell the time period. The cover of the book is a bit weird, but by the time you finish reading this short fiction, the cover makes more sense. If you're into m/m fiction, I would recommend this. Really, I don't think you'd be wasting your time, the book is short and it is entertaining.

I expected Garreth to be posseseed by a demon, of something equally dark. Short blurb: Garreth shows up at Ailin'house. The latter notices his lover's strange behavior; he looks darker, more sinister. They fuck. Hard. Then, Garreth explains himself.

The story has so many adjectives, and the sex scene was a little weird. I had to re-read it because I thought Garreth was just humping Ailin and not actually getting down to business. What a disappointment.

OMG! This author sure knows how to write a steamy sex scene and I don't just refer to the hot bath water.

I'm not sure if this would turn into more of a fantasy, paranormal, or regency title because it was such a small glimpse of the world. I definitely had a feel of something not-quite-normal with Garreth, though, so it would be interesting to see where that goes. Or whether it would be more of a Day-in-the-life-of kind of story.
