Wild Ghost Chase

Rate this book
Two reality-show ghost-busting teams versus one haunted house.
The first team to successfully exorcise the spirits wins the renewal of their television contract. It sounds like a pretty straight-forward competition, but something or someone at Harrington House has another agenda.

Over the course of a weekend, the two teams with their respective technical advisers, a supposedly impartial network executive, and the beautiful owner of Harrington House find it isn’t just the ghosts who are running amok. A killer is on the loose and if they don’t work together, they could all become permanent residents.

A scary, thrilling ride through a haunted house story with a twist. It's a page-turner!" --Yolanda Sfetsos

I've been looking forward to reading this story since I first heard Ericka Scott chatting about the idea she had on her blog a few years ago. And I'm very lucky to have gotten to read an advance copy of it, because it was quite a scary ride!

Malcolm and Monica McFee might be twins, but they're very different. For starters, Monica is a skeptic born into a psychically-gifted family. Malcolm has no choice but to believe because of what he can see around him. Still, they both work together on a show called Happily Ever Afterlife.

However, their next assignment includes teaming up with their biggest competition--the rival show, Bump in the Night. The two teams will have to spend a weekend at the Harrington House in Crescent Cove, and the losing team gets voted off the air. So, the twins and their cameraman head out to the house and meet up with Irene Hopkins and Enigma Mysterio.

From the moment the teams arrive, strange things start to happen. Those who are sensitive to ghosts start to see them, those who aren't are taken advantage of, and someone is playing all of them. Yet, there's something really dark lurking in the Harrington House, something that won't stop until it's satisfied...

Told primarily in the POV of Malcom and Monica as they each go through their very different paths, it also provides insight to several other characters. Essential pieces that take us to different parts of the haunted house and what each character is going through. Also, the terror continues until the very end.

Wild Ghost Chase has a bit of everything. It's an engrossing, thrilling story that keeps you guessing every step of the way. Just when you think you know what's going on, you eventually figure out that you're completely wrong. There's also one spooky situation after another, some which are downright frightening and gave me goosebumps. But at the same time, there are also several tender moments to smooth out the horrifying events underlining the narrative.

I really enjoyed this book. If you like stories about haunted houses with an edge of horror, you'll love it. If you like a good mystery that'll keep you guessing, you'll love it. If you like to be teased with a touch of romance, you'll definitely love this book. Either way, if those three things don't get you, the suspense will!

A delightful cozy Supernatural mystery, Wild Ghost Chase is fast-paced and appealing. Likable characters draw the reader into the story, and the introduction of strange events keeps intrigue foremost. Two of the best aspects of this novel are the backstory applied to characters and to the nature and elements of paranormal investigation; and the neatly intricate plotting. The novel is a very fast-paced read. I liked the immediate tension posed by the conflict between the investigative team and a potential hoaxer, then between that team and another, between brother and sister investigators, and so forth. That’s only the beginning of the tension, and soon two very disparate sets of paranormal investigators will face off against each other, the television ratings audience, furious producers-and whatever is haunting a certain residence in a certain highly-haunted locale.

The reader will be intrigued by the various characters before the Supernatural elements heat up, and amazed by the unfolding mysteries of Harrington House (and of some of the characters’ backgrounds). There’s not a dull moment nor a dropped plot thread in this novel, but there is a whole plethora of enjoyment. Readers of Supernatural, paranormal, and mysteries will really like this one. I can well recommend this engaging, realistic, and enjoyable novel.

What happens if a plot is devised by a television producer to be enacted by competing reality shows? Well, that is exactly what happens to two ghost hunting programs. One show applies scientific investigations with the aid of a medium. The other show has a medium behind the scenes that feeds information to an actress who emotes to give watchers a thrill or two.

What if this producer has their own agenda? What if the spirits also have a tortured past that can affect the real time residents? What is really going on?

In 'Wild Ghost Chase' we are put in just this scenario. If you enjoy watching Ghost Hunters (c) on Television or any other paranormal investigative team, you will enjoy this book. I'm keeping this review intentionally vague as to say anymore will reveal some crucial points and the reader is better off not knowing what is going on to feel the real impact of the story plot.

I did enjoy the book and will look for more to come.

Read in two days. I think Ericka describes herself perfectly as a writer of Seductive Suspense.

I won this book by commenting on a blog post. I started reading because I was looking for something kind of quick and different. Boy did I choose wisely!

This book was definitely out of my normal genre and very different. I don't like to write too much about suspense stories because it ruins it for the next reader. So I will just say, I couldn't put it down.

There is some language in the book.

Overall an enjoyable read. I do have to say that the end threw me for a loop. It almost hinted that there was more and I kind of felt like I was left hanging.

A fun idea: two reality shows investigating the same haunted house at the same time. But it gets a little mired in too many different plot threads on top of that--a killer or killers, a pirate treasure, two different love stories, a malevolent "force" that may or may not be in addition to the ghosts....

One of my favorite shows is Ghost Hunters (and Ghost Hunters International). This story is better than Ghost Hunters. The mystery and suspense continues to the very depth...er end. This one is a shelf-keeper.
