Medieval India is a two volume work on the history of medieval India which runs in eight hundred plus pages. An abridged version of this book was earlier used as a textbook in class XI and is now printed by Orient Blackswan Publishers. There are very few works available on medieval Indian History by Indian authors which are of great quality and this is one of them. Politics involved with medieval India has made everyone think that medieval ages were some sort of "dark age", which is not very original as well. Communal and fascist elements have taken this approach to history from renaissance historians of Europe and have used it out of context, out of place to achieve whatever they want. Hence, you may find a great work on ancient Indian History or a great work on modern Indian history with little bit of liberal (read "congressi") spin on it but finding anything on medieval History is a chore in itself. Irfan Habib is also a big name in medieval history for those who are interested. This book draws heavily from the works of Jadunath Sarkar and Ishwari Prasad. It is little bit tough to read considering the vast history which is involved. Reading medieval History presents other challenges as well such as keeping track of names, as many important figures have exactly the same name. All of that being said, this is a good work for those who are interested in knowing the history of medieval era, which was anything but the so called "dark age".
