Ron Calvin, Tik Michi and Gusissi 'Gus' Ugde Ghaolh were kidnapped from their separate planets by the Bugs. They were forced to work as slave laborers on the Bug's mother ship where they formed a unique partnership. Each partner has unique talents that complement the others. This creates a synergy where the partnership is stronger than the sum of its members. They form a friendship with another kidnapped being on the mother ship who teaches them to fly the ancient space ship the 'Galactic Antiquarian'. The Bugs found the 'Galactic Antiquarian' floating in space and have spent years trying to get it open to learn its secrets. The trio learns how to open parts of the ship and escape from the mother ship on the Galactic Antiquarian with a minimum of fuel, air, water and food. They must use their unique talents to unlock more of the secrets of the ancient space ship so they can restock these essential supplies while avoiding recapture by the Bugs and their allies. The Bugs want the ancient space ship back badly and are pulling no punches to get it back. Are the secrets of the ancient ship enough to help them to restock and avoid capture? How will the Alcantaran ghosts fit into the puzzle? Will the secrets or the ghosts help them find their three home planets somewhere in the midst of the trillion galaxies in the universe? Alien Abduction is the first book in the series "The Alcantarans".
The book was devoid of all but the minimalistic of human emotions. This means that the three characters only acted in a causal way, one to the other. As a reader, I had no inkling of how they felt about each other, outside of their given roles: computer expert, strong man, and interfacer between the two. This book read like a manual. The characters were always discovering something, escaping something, eating something, etc. Lastly, the chapters were not well thought out. They went on interminably...25, 35, 30 minutes. The intermission between chapters seemed forced, as if there was no reason for the break.
Characters you learn to love, care about, and most importantly root for! Space adventure in a future that seems exciting to say the least. Characters are fully-fledged, detailed enough to be seen in your minds eye. Adventures interesting enough that you want to be a part of them. Get me the next book in the series!
When you kidnap a human, you can expect anything to ruin your plans
A Human, a Sand Ghost, and a Mis-Tear got kidnapped and the Bugs found out why these are not good species to enslave. Rollicking adventure full of humor. I really look forward to the next one. All Super Heroes are good at saving the world, even if that world isn't theirs.
I think Compton shows good creativity, and the book was worth finishing. The plot gets bogged down in insignificant details, and things proceed matter-of-factly without much mystery or nuance. But Compton very much deserves the time of a good teacher and editor to help him refine his craft. I'd like to see something he writes 5 years from now.
There is nothing I would change or remove from this story. I could hardly wait to see to see what would happen next. It made me laugh, and feel like I were there,in the action. Can't wait to see what they get up to next. I highly recommend this book.
An extraordinary book. I don't usually like space travel books but this one was very good. The characters were exciting and funny as well as heroic. Terry Compton seem to know what makes people interesting. I look forward to reading more of his books.
Get this book! (and then try to savor it) After slogging though many novels it is so nice to actually truly enjoy one! Seriously you can't help but love this universe!
I love space ailen ship sifi, this series is up there with Asimov, I wasn’t able to stop reading, absolutely fantastic reading here, it tics all box’s, 100/100, EPIC!!!
I liked that the story didnt jump around to different scenarios. I can take this if necessary but it's so much easier if it doesn't! Nice characters too .
Science fiction/space opera with much more history/character development than action. Reasonably interesting read, though it had a rather 'old fashioned' feel to it, a bit more like some of the sci-fi I remember reading many years ago.
