known primarily for his work illustrating (pitch dark) children's stories, artist gris grimly here shows off some of his other talents, still relying heavily on pop-culture (or, to use a deliciously vincent price-ian pun that grimly himself might appreciate, "pop-vulture"), while still also condemning and critiquing that same culture in a manner more befitting an "artiste" than someone who illustrates books for monster kids.
but, it's not all charicatures of george bush and criticisms of how we, as a society, are all too eager to medicate ourselves (taken mostly from his exhibition bop pills. what grimly focuses on the most is keeping it halloween-y, wide-eyed and (somewhat) innocent while still creating something that those aforementioned "monster kids" can enjoy once all grown up. visually, grimly is like a frankenstein's monster of jhonen vasquez, ashley wood, and rob zombie, the kind of guy who can draw portraits of (and probably listens the hell out of) nick cave & nekromantix, as well as zombies and the women who love them.
