Terence Kemp McKenna was a writer, philosopher, psychonaut and ethnobotanist. He was noted for his knowledge of the use of psychedelic, plant-based entheogens, and subjects ranging from shamanism, the theoretical origins of human consciousness, and his concept of novelty theory.
Here you will find the "Stoned Ape Theory" which is one of my favorites. You will also hear a tale of a bunch of academic hippies on a mission to do so many hallucinogens they would literally manifest those hallucinations. A far-out-there book by one of the greatest niche-minds of the 20th century.
interesting journey into the world of expoerimentation with hallucinogenics. the author brings forward all the questions any of us has about our existence from a unique perspective. the answers are sometimes funny, sometimes interesting, sometimes non-sensical. overall, a fun read.
from the perspective of gathering real knowledge about the underlying consciousness, the author has access to all the experimentation, but fails to make that mind-blowing connection. he is touching the relevant questions, he is getting very close, but the real discovery is still missing.
