It seems the older I get the less confidence I have in systemic change and the more I seek solutions that involve individuals engaging with each other. That's why I loved this book. It's essentially a manual for the Bridges to Life restorative justice program, which brings together perpetrators and victims so they can share their stories and try to come up with strategies that will heal both of them.

This quote from the founder of Bridges to Life says it all: "When I founded Bridges to Life in 1998, I was not aware of the restorative justice movement. I had limited experience in volunteer work inside prisons, but that experience was so powerful that it inspired me to start Bridges to Life in order to make a difference in the lives of crime victims and offenders. At the very core of my passion for this work was the desire to keep other families from going through the years of horror that my family experienced after my sister Marilyn's brutal murder on June 30, 1993. If the program helps incarcerated offenders change their lives and not commit crimes in the future, then it has prevented innocent families from being the victims of crime."
