In The Bookstore Ghost, Mr Brow opens up a bookstore dedicated to ghost stories. When people refuse to visit the store due to the presence of mice, Mr. Brown orders his cat to get rid of the infestation. The cat has a better idea. The Bookstore Ghost is a bright and colorful easy reader that's perfect for young children. Although it's about a haunted bookstore, the story isn't scary at all, and instead chooses to put a new spin on the cat and mouse stereotype. The Bookstore Ghost has illustrations by Nadine Bernard Wescott on every page. They're filled with unexpected little details, such as the interesting titles she comes up with for the books on the shelves. Many pages include expansive backgrounds that take up two pages. The wide variety of bookstore customers cover a wide amount of races and ages. The present of cat and mice characters should be perfect for animals lovers, and the book itself should appeal to fans of bookstores and humorous stories.

What an adorable, funny, non-scary little book! There is a cat, there are mice--but is there a ghost in the bookstore?

My Review: This is a cute little book, perfect for Halloween but not too spooky for young readers. It is a simple story with lots of repetition and easy words for those young readers just starting to read on their own. I like the way the characters all find a way to work together so everyone is happy. It was fun, it was silly and it was a great book for October reading.

Mr. Brown liked ghost stories, so he bought a bookstore in which he sold only ghost story books. A family of mice lived in the bookstore, and customers stayed away because of them. This story has four short chapters in which Mr. Brown's cat contrives a way to create more business for Mr. Brown's bookstore. Cute story with fun illustrations.

This is an entertaining story, one of three Bookstore books by Barbara Maitland. All of the stories in the series are short and entertaining with colorful illustrations and would be perfect for beginning readers. This tale explains the origins of the Bookstore's ghosts. We enjoyed reading this book together.
