Maggie's once-happy marriage has turned sour, leaving her tied to a husband who no longer seems to love her. So she continues to work, keeps in touch with her friends and tries not to think about the lack of love in her life.

A Dream Come True by Maureen Lee is a pleasant story about Maggie, a woman in her early forties whose life has become dull and routine. She has been married for about twenty years but her husband has lost interest in the relationship. Through a chance meeting with a co-worker in another office, Maggie's life is turned around. She starts thinking about herself, her life and her career prospects very differently. In the end she gets her "dream come true".
While this is a happily ever after story, it comes at a great price which the author glibly ignores. The breakdown of a twenty year marriage is a painful occurrence no matter that the love that was once there has vanished. Maggie is also natively short sighted about her own future and the long term implications of the decisions she has made.
Nevertheless, as part of the Quick Reads series, it was a well written engaging story.
The story line kept me engrossed from the very 1st page. Fun and a light read. May be this book can help you come out of a reading slump if you are facing one.
Bit disappointed in this short story … BUT.. I’ve loved ALL the other stories written by Maureen Lee! Particularly “The Old House on the Corner “ “Kitty and her Sisters “ Plus all her early stories… Just a brilliant and gifted Author ✍️ RIP
Do not buy the romance between the two leads. As they themselves admit, they have only known each other for a few hours and yet are somehow completely in love, despite both being married. Maggie seems willing to throw away her arguably comfortable life with her husband simply because he cannot give her children, when surely adoption or some other solution could have been discussed together, even if John felt it challenged his sense of masculinity. Instead, this man she has known for mere hours, Connor, is portrayed as her dream come true. She cheats on her husband with a stranger and, rather than showing any genuine remorse, the narrative immediately has her blushing over her one-night stand. The book also suffers from predictable plotlines, with many scenes relying on clichés and dialogue that often feels forced or unnatural.
Maggie worked in Liverpool for an astral travel agency. Her husband is a headmaster, they’d been married for over 20 years. They hoped to have children until her husband discovered that she had an affair with Connor in Brighten, she blamed herself but choose to ignore that her husband betrayed her with Mrs Granger for 5 years.Maggie was expecting a baby. by the time next Christmas she would be a mother.it really was a dream come true. Maggie and John gave each other another chance, they would start again a new happy life together.
“A dream come true” is a novel by Maureen Lee who often tends to portray strong-willed women characters. In the book, the protagonist ,tired of her once happy marriage , gets an opportunity from her life to let her dream come true. Though the story is well written, but the author has added predictable elements that rather makes it boring.
I've read quite a few of Maureen Lee books and always loved the stories she is a brilliant author this quick read is the first I've read ,it was a lovely story and really enjoyed it quite sad also romantic but also happiness in the end i enjoyed this book very much and will recommend this author to all readers.
I usually only read books with 300+ pages as I like to have a good long read. I hand to say though I did enjoy reading a shorter story for a change. Good story, a few surprises but a happy ending for the main character.
It's a good novel , especially towards the end . Thought the theme is more of the protagonist becoming more dead over time , it's not what I'm a fan of . But for a good quick read it's a good small novel .
This is a very pleasant story which is worth reading as a short diversion. It is almost entirely predictable. Maggie, who is bored by her marriage, beds a colleague at a sales conference in Brighton. Her lover is also married and lives within driving distance of Maggie's home. You could almost make up the rest of the story for yourselves, but Maureen Lee has injected some humour and a few small surprises, so don't pass this book by. Pick it up. It'll keep you amused for an hour.
When I started this book, I didn't realize that it was intended for new readers. I thought that it was to be more like a short story you'd find in an anthology. But, it is not a very good one. It is VERY simplistic, and overly sappy, not to mention unbelievable. Just because it's short, it doesn't mean it has to be dumb. It's like the author tried to take a story idea that would usually take 300 pages to unfold, and cram it into a 100 page book (with a huge typeface at that!).[return[returnIf you aren't a new reader, I would NOT recommend this book.
I didn't expect much from the story so I wasn't disappointed. This kind of story I find rather boring but nevertheless, enough for a 2hours-entertainment.
