I already was a fan of Sarah Kieffer after her 100 Cookies book, but I wasn't sure how I'd feel about a book dedicated to morning treats. Well, within the first few pages, I knew this was a cookbook I needed to add to my shelf. I wanted to make everything--like add this to the list of "cookbooks I'd love to cook my way through a la Julie and Julia style."

What I liked is that there's a great mix of recipes from the easily doable to the more aspirational, and the more involved ones have great step-by-step pictures to make the recipes less intimidating. She makes me believe that I, too, could make a croissant. :)

I also appreciated that there are some standards in there. I don't want to buy a cookbook about morning treats and then there's no blueberry muffin or cinnamon roll recipe. She has you covered. But there are also a number of recipes with new twists such as Streusel Bottom Bread, Lemon Meringue Bread, Everything Bagel Breakfast Pretzels, and Pumpkin Caramel Monkey Bread. There's also a whole section on Bundt cakes which excited me because I just bought my first Bundt pan. I was also pleasantly surprised to see there were even a few breakfast sandwich recipes included.

This one is a winner! And now I'm hungry...

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for providing me an e-copy for early review.

If you are a fan of morning pastries, scones, muffins and the like, then this is a cookbook for you. The well written recipes run the gamut from simple muffins to complex croissants making it a good book for all levels of cooks.

The easy to follow recipes are all accompanied by nice color photos of the finished dishes and for the more complicated ones, there are a few very nice how-to pictorials. Experienced bakers may find themselves inspired by the interesting use of techniques (like in the Blood Orange Poppy Seed Pull-Apart Bread or the Lemon Meringue Bread), I know I did.

I've read both of Sarah Kieffer's previous cookbooks and I really like the layouts and varying levels of difficulties of the recipes. There's a base recipe section, one for tools, even oven temperatures. I've found the recipes very straightforward to follow in her previous cookbooks and this one seems no different. I'm particularly excited to try the Cream-Filled Danish, House Pancakes and Mini Dutch Babies. And the book is just very pretty, which is always nice!

When I heard that Sarah Kieffer was coming out with a new cookbook, I knew I had to have it. 100 Cookies is one of my most beloved cookbooks. It has the batter-covered pages to prove it.

With 100 Morning Treats, Kieffer tackles breakfast. Included are various sweet and savory recipes for muffins, scones, and quick bread. Coffee cakes and bundt cakes, as well as more challenging baked goods with yeasted and fried treats. Other sections include laminated pastries and recipes that require a little more time, and therefore, best baked on the weekend.

If you have baked from 100 Cookies, then this book's setup will be familiar to you. I know that some will take issue with the simple photos, plain white backgrounds for the recipes, and the occasionally lengthy directions. However, for me, someone who is still relatively new to baking, it is perfect. The format allows the recipe to shine.

I appreciate that the measurements are listed in both standard and metric units. Allowing me to precisely measure. I also love that for the recipes that require a little more technique, there are easy-to-follow, step-by-step photos. It is so much easier for me to see the steps, rather than read them.

I made several recipes. My favorites were the Southwest Turkey Breakfast Sandwiches, Pesto Pull Apart Bread, Buttermilk Cinnamon Rolls, Tiramisu Bundt Cake, and the simple but amazing Blueberry Muffins.

I can't wait to own this cookbook and try the rest.

Thank you to Netgalley, Chronicle Books, and Sarah Kieffer for allowing me to bake from this book in exchange for an honest review.

100 Morning Treats
By: Sarah Kieffer
Pub Date: May 9, 2023

This one is for the breakfast-eating foodies!
Packed full of delicious recipes, this cookbook will make your mouth water. It covers everything from muffins and scones, to laminated pastries and breads.
Some that really stood out to me were:
- Tiramisu Bundt Cake
- Buttermilk Cinnamon Rolls
- Chocolate Pudding Bundt Cake
- Ham and Cheese Sliders

The pictures were high quality and it was clear to see what recipe they were referring to. The directions were relatively easy to follow - if not a little too long at times. I can definitely see myself picking up a physical copy of the cookbook!

Thank you NetGalley and Chronicle Books for this eARC in exchange for my honest review!

I have to preface this by saying that I love Sarah Kieffer's cookbooks and own all of them, and I already had this pre-ordered when I saw that it was available on Netgalley. With that being said, Sarah has absolutely knocked it out of the park with this one. Almost any thing that you could conceivably think of that you would want to bake for breakfast (or at least that I could think of to bake for breakfast) Sarah has in this book, and everything looks delicious. Since I read this as an ARC I haven't baked anything from it yet, but everything that I have baked from her previous books has turned out beautifully, so I am anticipating the same from this book.

Sarah Kieffer's 100 Cookies was a surprisingly enjoyable book, so I had high hopes for 100 Morning Treats. The book is chock full of unique recipes as well as classic breakfast favorites, all exquisitely photographed, as usual. While there are few major highlights - and perhaps an oversaturation of sweet treats - it's overall a very solid book for those looking for new breakfast bake ideas and inspiration.

100 Morning Treats by Sarah Kieffer wasn’t anything new for baked goods, but still had a nice assortment of different treats. The pictures were average, and I do feel, better photography would make this book much better. We do eat with our eyes after all.

The book has sections on General Baking Advice and A Few Important Notes. At the end of the book, the author includes a list of Morning Tunes to Bake Too and a Conversion Chart. Each Chapter starts with some type of food quote from a book which I thought was a nice touch. Each recipe includes a blurb about the recipe, amount made, ingredients and instructions.

The recipe sections include (with a sample of one of the recipes):

1. Muffins, Scones, and Quick Breads - Banana Bread Scones with Rum Icing

2. Coffee Cakes and Bundt Cakes - Chocolate Hazelnut Crumb Cake

3. Sweet Yeasted and Fried Treats - Orange Buns

4. Laminated Pastries - Raspberry Hazelnut Danish Bread

5. The Weekend - Peanut Butter Granola Bark

6. Base Doughs and Breads - Sweet Dough

7. The extra section includes fruit flavored syrup, pastry cream, streusel, etc.

In trying to decide which recipe to make for this review, it did seem as if some of the recipes were a bit more involved than I was wanting to invest in. Having said that, I did make the Simple Citrus Breakfast Cake which was awesome and even more awesome with the lime juice glaze I put on it. This recipe directions were clear and easy to follow which is one of the reason I chose it.

My review is voluntary and all comments and opinions expressed are
my own.

Flattest pancakes I Ever Made!

One of the things I like about Kindle Unlimited is I have the ability to try out new cookbooks and buy if I like. The trial period is usually trying a couple of recipes before purchase. I made the pancakes with these. They were literally the flattest pancakes I ever made. The baking powder can’t be blamed either. It was a spankin’ new can. When I say these things were flat, any flatter and they would have been crepes. So, hard pass!

Amazing pastries book to delight the senses

The recipes obviously are top notch, from years of experience and tests. I can’t wait to try them, especially the brioche recipe. I’ve been wanting to know how to make the fluffiest, lightest and tastiest brioche. Highly recommend for people who love baking. Takes me to a happy place.

This book is a good addition to your cookbook rotation, if you have some experience in the kitchen. The book started with an introduction that included general baking advice and ingredient information. Then the following chapters were divided into topics such as muffins/quick breads, coffee cakes/bundts, sweet and fried treats, laminated pastries, savory dishes, and base doughs/breads that are used in the previous recipes. The final chapter contained recipes of drinks, toppings, and jams. I liked that there are pictures for each recipe which helps you know what the treat should look like. Her recipes seem generally easy to follow although some required more work and prep time than others. I only tried the recipe for granola which was pretty simple and tasty. I looked forward to trying some more recipes!

Another 5 star winning cookbook from Sarah Kieffer! I love this book with all its decadent and delicious recipes. I have been a fan of Sarah’s since purchasing her 100 Cookies book at an adult book fair last year. I love that she takes the time to give a little tidbit about what inspired her for each recipe. She’s so optimistic and it shows in her stories and recipes.

There are some really great recipes I can’t wait to try in this new book including: Caramel Apple Muffins, Creamy Jammy Coffee Cake and Blood Orange Poppy Seed pull apart bread. Her recipes are so creative and unique and the flavors always compliment each other. I’ll definitely be getting a copy of this new book when published!

As a morning baker I am rewarded with the recipes in this book! 100 Morning Treats offers home bakers breakfast/brunch recipes to make and enjoy. Aside from the recipes, another thing I appreciate about 100 Morning Treats is how it is designed. In keeping with her previous two books – 100 Cookies and Baking for the Holidays – the design and dimension complements the previous two books. They look like a lovely trilogy sitting on the shelf. I am also delighted at the choice of bookmark for the book – a jaunty bright-yellow length of ricrac helps to keep things marked.

Kieffer is a skilled and technical baker, which is evident in how she develops her recipes. As I make my way through the book, I feel so pleased with how the recipes are turning out. Kieffer knows how to help home bakers be successful. She offers us ingredients measured in both volume and weight (although she would advise bakers to use the latter). I like that her recipes are clear and instructive – again, this helps with how the final product looks/tastes. She also offers useful “process pictures” so that home bakers can see each step of certain recipes (such as for cinnamon rolls or pull-apart bread).

The recipes themselves are organized into 7 chapters: 1) Muffins, Scones, and Quick Breads, 2) Coffee Cakes and Bundt Cakes, 3) Sweet Yeasted and Fried Treats, 4) Laminated Pastries, 5) The Weekend, 6) Base Doughs and Breads, and 7) Extras. The recipes offer a good balance between sweet and savory breakfast options as well as a nice range of bakes for any skill level – a little something for everyone. While I was excited to see that Bundt cakes were included, it should be noted that Kieffer offers an alternative to using a Bundt pan or fluted cake pan. As in her other books, she mentions that a tube pan can be used and, she’s even photographed a few of the cakes that have been baked in a tube pan.

I was lucky enough to receive a copy of 100 Morning Treats early (and in time for the Easter long weekend). I sincerely tried to convince my husband and daughter that they would love to share the Giant Carrot Cake Cinnamon Roll for Easter Sunday breakfast but, they both informed me that they preferred not to share – everyone wanted their own roll to enjoy! So, I ended up making a tray of Kieffer’s Buttermilk Cinnamon Rolls – made with her Buttermilk Dough, these rolls baked up light and so fluffy! I loved the slight tang the buttermilk imparted to the dough too.

100 Morning Treats isn’t just a special occasion or weekend book – I baked a big batch of her Granola recipe, which I’ve enjoyed daily for breakfast. Her method for making granola is a bit different in that the oats are mixed with the liquid (maple syrup, oil, sugar, water, vanilla, salt), then baked. Once baked, things like toasted nuts, dried fruit, chocolate chips, etc. are then tossed with the cooling toasted oats.

Since my birthday also fell during the past month, I took the opportunity to bake myself the Everything Bundt Cake using the Confetti variation she offers. Being it was a birthday Bundt, full of rainbow sprinkles, I used the recipe for Confectioners’ Sugar Glaze from her first book (The Vanilla Bean Baking Book) to glaze the cake. Another notable bake from the book is the Popovers w/ Fig Butter, which achieved a spectacular “pop” from the pan and looked quite lofty as they sat on plates awaiting a good swipe of the fig butter. I also appreciated that these popovers were savoury-leaning with the addition of parmesan cheese. That cheesy umaminess paired really well with the sticky-sweet fig butter. My daughter and I enjoyed this for brunch one weekend with some warm cups of tea.

Kieffer is particularly good with scone recipes and her recipe for Banana Bread Scones (full of toasted pecans and drizzled with a rum-butter glaze) were fantastic! I was even able to share them with some of our faraway family too (for those curious – they made an airplane trip with my husband, carefully wrapped in a container without being reduced to crumbs).

The Good Morning Berry Crisp had some lovely dessert-for-breakfast vibes – 2.5 pounds of berries (a mixture of blueberries, strawberries, raspberries and black berries) covered in a Whole-Wheat Streusel. I used a combination of both fresh and frozen berries for the crisp and I served it with some of her Yogurt Whipped Cream. Crunchy, sweet, and tangy – this breakfast checked all of the boxes. Since there was leftover crisp, we enjoyed it for breakfast the next few mornings! The House Pancakes were another recipe which made eating leftovers at breakfast a joy! I liked that these buttermilk pancakes were fluffy yet not dense. I served them with maple syrup and fresh berries – we took Kieffer’s advice and reheated the leftover pancakes in the toaster the next day.

As always, Kieffer has given home bakers another book to love and treasure with her latest, 100 Morning Treats. Even though my review is complete, I’ve still got many recipes bookmarked (the doughnuts and crullers are calling my name!!). In my mind, Sarah Kieffer works hard to build up the trust between her recipes and the home baker. With such well-developed and equally well-tested recipes, home bakers can be sure of the results. From her humble heart to our kitchens, Kieffer offers another 100 reasons to find joy in baking.

Previously, I have reviewed 100 Cookies by Sarah Kieffer (of The Vanilla Bean Blog), a cookbook I bought even though I am lactose intolerant and it is chock full of recipes that are dairy dependent. Since reviewing that book two years ago, I am still lactose intolerant, but I have become much more comfortable adapting recipes to fit my dairy free needs. Oat milk and Earth Balance are my friends. I have also found that I am almost as happy to bake things I can’t eat for other people as I am to bake things I can eat for myself. I tested several of the recipes both as written and adapted for dairy free. I even made a couple vegan.

I love this cookbook. I am a recipe criminal in that I see recipes as a jumping off point for my imagination. What works best for me about this book is that the foundations are solid. Once I know a recipe works as written, I can play. Every recipe I tried works beautifully as written and as adapted to be dairy free.

There are two recipes in here that I have now made so many times I have them memorized – the Milk Bread Dough and the Toasting Bread. The milk bread dough is a dream to work with. It bakes up beautifully as a loaf and is endlessly adaptable. Kieffer gives credit to Kristina Cho and her cookbook Mooncakes and Milk Bread as the source for the milk bread recipe in 100 Morning Treats. I wish I had been more confident making dairy free substitutions when I was reviewing that cookbook. I couldn’t tell any difference in the loaf when I used dairy milk and butter versus when I used oat milk and Earth Balance Buttery Sticks. I also took the filling and glaze from the Orange Buns recipe and used the milk bread to make cinnamon orange knots. I am obsessed with them now.

The Toasting Bread is a sleeper of a recipe, but I fell in love with it. While I do make toast with it (spread with fake butter and drizzled with hot honey), It makes an excellent sandwich loaf. It’s oaty and soft. Making the bread is a fairly quick process, and if you have a standing mixer, the whole thing is very easy. Honestly, I would buy the cookbook for this recipe alone.

Other recipes I made which I will make again when I have the hard copy in my hands:

Cardamom Bundt Cake with Coffee Glaze
Morning Buns with Cheater Croissant Dough*
Brioche Bagels
Giant Carrot Cake Cinnamon Roll
Ham and Cheese Breakfast Sliders

*I could definitely tell a difference when I used the dairy free butter in the cheater croissant dough, but it’s the closest I have come to making a good croissant since finally giving up butter. I will continue to play with it.

I have a list of people that I’m buying this for, including myself. I would have loved a few more savory morning recipes, but not enough to knock off a star. This cookbook also works best if you have a standing mixer.

I received this as an advance reader copy from Chronicle Books and NetGalley. My opinions are my own, freely and honestly given.

Of all the recipe categories and culinary techniques out there, baking has to be the most comforting. As Kieffer points out, it is perhaps the cooking discipline that connects us the most:

As I baked each morning, I slowly understood that everything was new, and everything was old and I was never alone. The ritual of preparing food in the morning connected me with so many people, recipes and stories across the years. The philosophers were right: We all belong to each other. (12)

Besides the above belief, I kept identifying with Kieffer. In the first recipe in the book, she reminisces about the boxed blueberry muffin mixes with the tiny blueberry chips. I remember mixing those boxed treats up as a “surprise” for a special breakfast for mom and dad. !!!

Then, there’s all the literary quotes that open each section of her book, quotes from Jane Eyre to Pride & Prejudice to Alice in Wonderland to Shakespeare.

Most all of her muffins have some sort of crunchy streusel-like topping (another win), frosting or at least a glaze. Her recipes go beyond muffins and quick breads and even further than coffee cakes. Some are a bit complicated and there are many cinnamon rolls and Danish recipes. I was particularly drawn to some of the recipes that could feed a crowd like Ham and Cheese Breakfast Sliders (234), Sheet Pan Breakfast (237), and Cheesy Croissant Casserole (240).

A comprehensive bread dough chapter includes Brioche, milk bread, sweet dough, buttermilk dough, cheater croissant dough, and Danish dough.

“Extras,” the final section, contains breakfast beverages, smoothies, syrup, jams, curd, creams, caramel, and dressings—everything you need to complete that morning meal.

She gladly suggests a “Morning Tunes to Bake To” playlist. It’s pretty eclectic with Bob Dylan, The Cactus Blossoms, Joni Mitchell, Ella Fitzgerald & Louis Armstrong and St. Germain. LOVE.

As I finished up reading Kieffer’s recipes, I kept coming back the the opening of her book and her musing over all the kitchen counters in her life—the yellow ones her mom hated but where she taught her daughter to roll out cookie dough, the speckled white counters of her grandmother’s house and harsh words, the miniscule space of her and her husband’s first apartment, stainless steal counters of commercial kitchens, to her own butcher-block counters in her home today.

I have tried the Yogurt Whole Wheat Banana muffins. They are more than worthy!!!!!

100 Morning Treats: With Muffins, Rolls, Biscuits, Sweet and Savory Breakfast Breads, and More by Sarah Kieffer is currently scheduled for release on May 9 2023. These baking projects will bring delight to your family breakfast, a Sunday brunch or bake sale, a morning at the office, or kids' soccer practice. Whatever your preference alongside your morning cup of coffee or tea—sweet or savory, buttery or flaky, hot off the griddle or taken to go—you'll find a recipe for it here, from coffee cakes to danishes, doughnuts, scones, quick breads, quiches, and muffins galore! Filled with more than 120 inspiring photographs, including how-tos for doughs and shaping, and instructions for prepping the night before and baking in the morning.

100 Morning Treats is a well rounded book for those that love to bake, and those that want to improve their knowledge and recipe base in baking. I thought the introduction and tips and other information included in the beginning of the book was well written and chosen, and that the book was laid out and organized well. The pictures were well chosen and made me eager to try my hand at the recipes, and if I am honest reading the descriptions and looking at the pictures made me a bit hungry and craving something freshly baked. I like that the ingredient measurements are given in metric and imperial units- so everyone can easily follow the recipes without having to do conversions and extra calculations. I thought the recipes were easy to follow and well written. The extra informational box content through out the book was helpful and interesting. There was a nice variety of recipes, something for everyone. While the classics were covered, so were some recipes I have never seen. I honestly cannot wait to test a few of these out in coming weeks. Ones I am looking forward to the most are: Grapefruit Glazed Muffins, Lemon Meringue Bread, Strawberry Knots, and the Chocolate Pudding Bundt Cake.

100 Morning Treats is a wonderful collection of recipes, and if I had anymore room for physical books this would be joining my collection. It just might anyway.

100 Morning Treats is a delightful collection of breakfast breads, rolls, and more curated by Sarah Kieffer. Due out 9th May 2023 from Chronicle Books, it's 304 pages and will be available in hardcover and ebook formats.

This is a comprehensive and versatile collection of well written recipes for breakfast and brunch foods, both sweet and savory. Recipes are arranged thematically in chapters: muffins scones & quickbreads, coffee & bundt cakes, sweet yeasted & fried treats, laminated pastries, weekend treats, base doughs & breads, and extras (drinks, streusels, jams, and syrups). Recipes are written with a description, ingredients in a bullet list sidebar, and followed by step-by-step prep instructions. Recipe ingredients are listed in imperial (American) units with metric units in parentheses (yay!). Required ingredients will probably be easy to source at any well stocked grocery store in North America.

The entire collection is beautifully photographed throughout and the food is well styled, attractive, and appetizing.

The author/editors have also included useful appendices such as a suggested playlist of tunes, a bibliography and resource lists, conversion chart, and cross referenced index.

Four and a half stars. This is a solidly useful, versatile, and appealing reference and will be at home in a wide variety of kitchens. It would be a good selection for public library acquisition, home use, and gifting purposes.

Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.

I'm not usually a baker, but I love the idea of being one. I think my cooking skills are so appallingly lacking, that I would offend chefs everywhere to attempt baking. That being said, I'm a sucker for baking recipes and the idea of my home smelling like a local bakery. I think the price of $27.50 USD is fairly standard for a cookbook, if not for the fact that I've noticed book prices hiking recently here in the states.

The pictures of the recipes are clean, crisp, and engaging. In many cookbooks, I see an entire display set up to showcase the meal or snack that's been prepared, but not here. It reminds me a lot of Barefoot Contessa, where everything is stripped on the landscape and zoomed in to show exactly what we're here for: the food. And I really appreciate that, because nothing can be your standard image of the perfect loaf of bread or puff pastry.

The recipes themselves are not anything too ountlandish you'd be intimidated off the bat to try, but also not so basic that you can read it off the side of a Betty Crocker box or your mom's magazine clipping filled binder of recipes from Home Cooking 2007. They are splite by baking type; such as cakes, yeast, weekend eats, and breads, making it easy to narrow down which I would like to try first. The introduction is brief and to the point; including summaries for how to use the book and how to start baking for the audiences that may be at an introductory level. Aka, me.

In the cookbook overall is 306 pages of warm, inviting instructions that make you feel as if you can in fact make some from scratch muffins without setting the fire alarm off. I really enjoyed the layout of the book, how clean it felt in design, and how descriptive the instructions were to guide you along every step of the way.

I received a netgalley review copy, the opinions are my own though.

This book appealed to me for many reasons. The biggest being brunch food of any kind is amazing, and there is never a wrong time to eat brunch. The second reason is baking is a lovely pastime.
I read through all the recipes, and had a hard time narrowing down which to make first because everything sounded amazing. I started making a grocery list – first round picks for me were apricot white chocolate scones, Double chocolate banana muffins, ginger orange carrot bread, and pear bundt cake.

I started with the apricot white chocolate scones. And they turned out perfect! Quite possible the easiest scone recipe I’ve ever made. I made them yesterday on my day off and I’ll be making more this weekend. I kinda want to try keeping the scone base the same and swapping out the apricots for dried strawberries and the white chocolate for dark chocolate. This was a solid recipe, easy to follow and yielded great results- and I’ll definitely be making these again. (Also, I’d never heard of the double sheet pan trick, helped a lot)
Next up I’ll making the ginger orange carrot bread and the peanut butter granola bark. I’ve also got my eye on trying some of the more complicated recipes such as the almond croissants. I’d highly recommend this book. It was easy to follow, my scones were wonderful and who doesn’t love brunch?!

My only small complaint would be that some of the recipes such as almond crossiants call for a dough recipe that you don’t find until later in the book. I’d rather work my way through the more complicated dough, and then see what you can do with said dough, then seeing what can be done but then having to go look up the other dough recipe further back . But that’s just me.

Anyone who loves to serve mouthwatering brunches to family and friends will want to immediately pick up a copy of popular blogger, Sarah Kieffer’s baking book, 100 Morning Treats: With Muffins, Rolls, Biscuits, Sweet and Savory Breakfast Breads, and More. This excellent cookbook includes dozens of fabulous baked treats to serve at breakfast, brunch, or for dessert.

This well-written cookbook has helpful hints at the beginning of each recipe, and the recipes are written in the traditional manner with a list of ingredients followed by step-by-step instructions. And while the recipes are mostly not quick and easy, they are definitely doable for both beginning and advanced cooks.
Basic doughs are included, which are used to make many of the fabulous baked goods such as morning buns (delicious, and made with Cheater Croissant Dough), Kouignettes, Cruffins, Blackberry Puff Pastry Tartlets, and Brioche Bagels. The book also includes several unique and fancy cakes such as White Chocolate and Fig Pound Cake, Marble Bundt Cake, Chocolate Pudding Bundt Cake, and Tiramisu Bundt Cake. There are also muffins, loaf breads, scones, and popovers, all which go with breakfast and brunch main dishes. While most of the offerings are sweet, there are also savory bakes, such as Prosciutto Gruyère Croissants, and sheet pan breakfast.

There are beautiful, professional photographs of almost every recipe, which makes it almost impossible to decide which mouthwatering recipe to make next.

All told, this is an excellent cookbook and will make an excellent addition to any cookbook collection. Bakers will use it often.

Special thanks to NetGalley for supplying a review copy of this book.

I read/reviewed (and loved) Kieffer's Baking for the Holidays: 50+ Treats for a Festive Season when it came out back in December 2021, so was particularly excited to read/review _100 Morning Treats_ as well.

Just as with _Baking for the Holidays_, this cookbook is beautifully presented and photographed. The recipes are clear and easy to follow, and don't include (too many :D) hard-to-find ingredients, and I'd be particularly glad to try a number of the muffins and scones--here's looking at you, Maple Oatmeal Scones! (I like to think I must be Canadian, I love maple-flavored things so much.)

I'll admit that I probably wouldn't try actually making most of the recipes for breakfast--in the morning, anyway. Many are a bit more effort than I'm willing to expend pre-food; I need food to make food? LOL! But, they'd be well worth the effort for a brunch or making ahead over the weekend. And, my own dietary needs preclude making much in the way of yeasted products ... but man, do they look good. (Someone please try them and let me live vicariously through you!) So, it's a bummer to miss out on a whole section of the book--but that's on me, not the author. :) There are still plenty of other recipes I'd certainly enjoy.

3.5 stars, rounded up to 4.

I received an eARC of the book from the publisher via NetGalley. All opinions are my own.

100 morning treats by Sarah Kieffer is a feast of recipes for the seasoned baker looking to add to their baking repertoire.

This lovely book will be a beloved addition to your baking lineup, straight from the kitchen of an experienced baker and blogger, Sarah Kieffer. Beyond the beautiful layout and photographs, these recipes are perfect for the long lazy weekends when you want to spoil and impress.

Grouped and categorized by type, each recipe is written using US and Metric measurements, making it easy for anyone to use this cookbook. Beginning with muffins, scones and quick breads, 100 morning treats is filled with recipes for a perfect brunch or late morning breakfast with your hot beverage of choice and a hard copy of the newspaper. More involved recipes include laminated doughs, which covers puff pastries, Danish, and croissants. There's a chapter on frying with donuts and fritters. And if you enjoy a heartier weekend breakfast, Kieffer has included a chapter of more filling recipes, such as Mini Dutch Babies, Croissant Breakfast Sandwiches, and Cheesy Croissant Casserole, among others.

To achieve all of these baking delights, a chapter of basic doughs and breads is included, as well as a chapter of extras such as libations, curds, jams, and dressings.

Plan your next weekend getaway to your own kitchen, all you need is 100 Morning Treats and an adventurous desire to master these delights.

100 Morning Treats is a great cookbook from beginners to more experienced bakers. The author has great baking advice and tips, including substitutions that can be made. There are wonderful accompanying photos and each dish has either a story, a tip or words of encouragement before the meat of the recipe.

Listed below are the separate sections, with some of the standout recipes.

1 Muffins, Scones, and Quick Breads: Almond Poppyseed Muffins; Maple Oatmeal Scones; Sour Cream Chocolate Chip Bread

2. Coffee Cakes and Bundt Cakes: Simple Citrus Breakfast Cake; Tiramisu Bundt Cake

3. Sweet Yeasted and Fried Treats: Orange Buns; Apple Cider Crullers

4. Laminated Pastries: Almond Croissants

5. The Weekend: Cinnamon Swirl French Toast; Individual Quiche Bakes

6. Base Dough and Breads: Milk Bread Dough

7. Extras: Lemon Curd, Pastry Cream; Almond Cream

This is not an extremely big cookbook, but this is actual a positive. It is manageable for beginners and the different flavor profiles for homemade favorites will entice experienced bakers to try new things. The author does a good job of describing and demonstrating step-by-step techniques for certain recipes, with photos when needed. 100 Morning Treats will be a go-to for readers looking to have different breakfasts.

Disclaimer: I was given an Advanced Reader's Copy by NetGalley and the publisher. The decision to read and review this cookbook was entirely my own.

You know the warm, cozy feeling you get when you walk into a corner bakery and smell the butter, sugar, and yeasty dough? That’s the way I felt when I started reading this cookbook. These are not recipes you’ll find on the back of a sugar bag, these are prime-time morning masterpieces. Some are straightforward, but most have a sizable list of ingredients (though none aren’t typical of baking recipes), and many have multiple steps and take quite a bit of time. This isn’t ideal for someone who hasn’t already baked from scratch (unless they are ready to dive in headfirst), but for anyone who loves to bake, this is a gem!

I made the kolaches straight away as they are a favorite of my dad, and they were fantastic! Soft, pillowy dough, buttery and just a little sweet, the perfect vehicle for the sweetened cream cheese filling, raspberry jam, and posipka (streusel topping). So delicious they were addictive! My only criticism of the book is that there is no estimate of how much time a recipe takes start to finish. The kolaches took the better part of a full Saturday; still well worth it and I know I’ll make them again, but just a warning to closely read your recipe before starting, especially if you have a specific time frame in mind. But, if you enjoy the whole process of baking and want to make some bakery worthy treats, this book is a winner.

Thank you NetGalley, the author, and the publisher for the opportunity to read and give an honest review of this book.

I own Sarah Kieffer’s book, Baking for the Holidays and love it. So, I was looking forward to reading and reviewing her latest book.

I was not disappointed. Sarah’s recipes are clear and concise. Each one
has a photo with it that makes your mouth water. The book leaves me wanting
to make each and every recipe.

The introduction does not waste a lot of time on over-explaining baking terms and techniques. It gives you just enough tips so that you are excited to get into baking.

I especially liked the section on laminating dough. That is something I haven’t tried yet, but I would certainly like to try it. She has organized all of her various dough recipes into one section at the back of the book, making it very convenient. The “extras” section, which she includes, will certainly take your baking to the next level. You may even have people (that taste your baked treats) ask you which bakery they came from!

After reading this ARC, I know I will need to purchase this book and recommend it to friends that enjoy baking.

100 Morning Treats by Sarah Kieffer is the second cookbook I have read by this author. I loved the author’s book 100 cookies and this is a gem as well. What a great book! The photography is sumptuous. The instructions are easy-to-follow and the book is chock-a-block full of culinary ideas.

I am a person who would rather eat breakfast than any other meal of the day. I love making baked goods that are billed for ‘Dessert’ that I can have for breakfast. This book satisfies that need for me. I would highly recommend that you do not read this book when you are hungry. Between the photos and descriptions you will be craving what is on every page.

Since I cook almost every meal of every day you can easily see how each recipe is well thought out. The book is organized logically. There is something for everyone in this book. To cater to a wider audience the author includes imperial and metric measurements so you aren’t running to your phone for a conversion. I would highly recommend this book. I can’t wait to see what Ms. Kieffer has in store for us next!

Thank you to Sarah Kieffer, Chronicle Books and NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Sometimes a few pages into a cookbook is all you need before you say, “yup, you’re coming home with me.” And this was definitely one of those moments. These recipes looked delicious and the photography was incredible.

This cookbook is split up into sections:
Muffins, Scones, and Quick Breads
Coffee Cakes and Bundt Cakes
Sweet Yeasted and Fried Treats
Laminated Pastries
The Weekend
Base Dough and Breads
Extras

I kept waiting to come across a section that made me hesitant to try anything, but it never happened. Every one of these looks like a recipe that I would naturally be drawn to anyway. I’m tempted to make the House Pancakes soon because I seem to try different pancake recipes out of all my cookbooks. So that will probably be made soon.

If you like breakfasts and making baked goods, this is definitely a book to check out. It’s full of recipes we all know and like, and I can’t wait to dive in.

Thank you to Chronicle Books and NetGalley for providing an ebook for my honest review.
