Waggy dog, shaggy dog, doggies in a bunch. Floppy dog, sloppy dog, doggies eating lunch. Kids will love this bouncy, colorful book, bursting with every kind of dog imaginable!
Someone commented that there can never be TOO many dogs, but I might disagree when it comes to this book that Neo read. There are fast dogs and slow ones, fat dogs and skinny ones... even BIG dogs and tiny ones. Dogs all over serving many purposes, but one thing they all do is cause chaos when brought together. Neo was able to speed through this one and show me that he's picking up words and sentences faster than a dog owner with a poop bag on a Sunday morning.
This book has fun pictures with all sorts of dogs getting into plenty of trouble. But, the book poses a problem because the one to two words on each page is too simple for older readers or a read aloud, but the vocabulary (words turned into adverbs, some made up) is complicated and the book doesn't have enough repetition for the beginning readers it is marketed for. I do like the short focus at the beginning of the book on the big, bigger, biggest and small, smaller, smallest.
Lori Haskins channels her inner Seuss for this kid's book that has a father grilling burgers out by the patio and all the neighborhood dogs wanna piece of the action. Big dogs, little dogs want the burgers and the hot dogs, and yeah the prose does get Seuss-esque. But it's funny, sweet and is a great intro to different words for kids to learn, and different types of dogs that kids can enjoy. So...who wants some, ahem, DOGS??? Four stars WE let the DOGS out, Woof, woof woof!
Hi everybody I’m back with a new update. This book is About dogs. In the beginning a dog was climbing over the fence. It Was a big dog. I’m the middle there were dogs in one of the neighbors Backyard. They were playing and eating barbecue from The grill. In the end the man had to tell the dogs to go. He saw The last dog leave from his backyard. I hope everybody had a wonderful Indigenous Peoples Day weekend. I will be back with the next update I’m not Sure when. Bye.
Super cute! Great for teaching adjectives/describing words. A great demonstration of how they're used. This is a fun book to read! It has a great rhythm to it & has some rhyming too. Also, relatable for some kids. Some kids have pets, so they would connect world to book while reading.
This one got bumped up to a 4 star rating because the 3-year old I read it to incorporated it into his playing for the rest of the afternoon and composed a sort of song from it. No, not Mozart quality. It was just a silly "dog ..." or "... dog" tune all afternoon. If his song didn't rhyme the first time around he'd change it to the later sequence. The book is told in a similar fashion, "Sprinkly dog, Wrinkly dog, scratchy dog, patchy dog...", so my cousin just put it to music he already knew and sang off and on while making Duplo "dogs" run amok through his train layout.
Make sure to add this to your early reader's list. There are not many books at the starting level that are engaging or fun. This one is a favorite!
Reading Level: 1st and up

This is a very simple book with a lot of different descriptors for various dogs. There's the normal big and small, as well as more creative descriptors like sloppy and waggy. Could be used when discussing adjectives or big, bigger, and biggest (small, smaller and smallest also appear). Also a good pick for a beginning reader who loves dogs.
This is a great book for kids who love dogs and are beginning to read. With only a couple words on each page and repeating ones too, this book will help kids with vocabulary. It also uses descriptive and rhyming words.
