3 Estrellitas. Lo lamento mucho, pero éste libro no me ha llegado tanto como lo hizo el primero. Se me ha hecho muy cuesta arriba, lleno de clichés y me desesperaba por momentos. Supongo que iba con las expectativas muy altas tras la sorpresa que me llevé con "Rose".
"Fern" es el segundo libro de la serie Siete Novias, y en éste caso tenemos al hermano desconocido, James Madison Randolph. Madison huyó de la granja de Texas en cuanto su padre se fue a la guerra. A Madison no le interesaba ingresar en el ejército, y sí mucho huir de su brutal padre y estudiar. Se fue a Boston, donde lo acogió su mejor amigo y le costeó su educación.
Años después, Madison es un prestigioso abogado de Boston, pero han pasado diez años y ahora debe volver a ver a sus hermanos, para salvar a Hen. Los hermanos Randolph, los mayores, se encuentran en Abilene, Kansas, para vender algunas de sus reses en el mercado. Pero algo ocurre, muere un hombre y un testigo acusa del asesinato a Hen. De modo que Madison vuelve para salvar a su hermano de la horca.
Lo que Madison no esperaba era encontrarse con la voluntariosa Fern Sproull nada más bajar del tren. El primo de Fern, Troy, acaba de ser asesinado, y aunque no caía bien a nadie, Fern está segura de la culpabilidad de Hen Randolph y sabe que han mandado llamar a su hermano el abogado para que Hen no pague por su crimen. Pero no, Fern no se lo pondrá tan fácil y hará todo lo posible para entorpecer a Madison.
Sí, el primer tercio de la novela trata de entorpecerse el uno al otro. Madison me ha gustado como protagonista, pero con Fern no he podido empatizar de la manera en que sí lo hice con Rose. Fern es un marimacho que se viste con pantalones, sin ningún tipo de modales y malhablada. Los protagonistas son totalmente opuestos, y por eso mismo se atren; pero a mí, no me han llegado.
Será porque no he tenido la mejor época para leer el libro y no he podido dedicarle lo que me habría gustado; pero aunque está bien narrado y ambientado, la historia me ha dejado mucho que desear. Sí, el escollo lo he tenido con Fern, no he podido con ella. Es verdad que desde el principio sabes que la actitud que tiene es pura fachada, que tiene un pasado horrible, un padre cruel y es muy insegura. Pero lo que no me ha gustado son esas vueltas a lo mismo, ahora sí, ahora no... no he podido con su inseguridad.
Llegando hasta el final y cuando ves hacia donde conduce la historia, es lo que más me ha atrapado y por eso se ha llevado las 3 estrellitas. Pero no me ha fascinado lo mismo que el primero. Aún así continuaré con la serie.

No sé porque seguí apostando a este libro, debí abandonarlo mucho antes. Supongo que fue porque sinceramente no me gusta criticar sin finalizar la lectura... Este diálogo fue el broche de oro para decir basta:
—¿Has visto a la señorita Bruce y a su hermano antes de salir del hotel?
—Los he acompañado a casa de los McCoy antes de venir aquí —se acercó un poco más a ella—. *No le diría esto a nadie más, pero esta noche estás tan hermosa como ella.* WTF?
*Fern se sintió como si estuviera flotando entre nubes. Madison pensaba que ella era tan guapa como Samantha.* ¿En serio Fern? 🙄🙄🙄

I haven’t skimmed the last 50 pages of a book in a long time, but this was such a slog towards the end. It could easily have been 100-150 pages shorter. I liked the romance ok, but it was bogged down by too many other things happening in the story. Plus the amount of times we are reminded Fern is wearing pants had me rolling my eyes. I’ll continue in the series at some point but I hope the other ones are more like the first book.

Otro libro de esta serie y de este autor que termina por gustarme mucho, aunque debo admitir que no tanto como el primero.
La historia de Madison no me llamaba la atención en un principio porque era el único hermano Randolph que no conocía, su carácter no me ha gustado mucho, aunque Fern es una mujer con carácter y bastante peculiar. A pesar de todo la trama no es muy original, aunque sí entretenida, y hay algunos clichés, pero como sigue siendo una novela histórica de Western, se perdonan.
Espero seguir leyendo las historias de estos hermanos que poco a poco van creciendo, además, la familia no deja de aumentar.
Son novelas románticas que recomiendo para quien disfrute del histórico western.

Quizás el primer libro dejó el listón muy alto y era complicado de igualar, ya no de mejorar. Voy a intentar ser lo más justa posible en mi valoración.
La escritura del autor sigue siendo un gustazo. Su forma de narrar atrapa y tiene gusto en su forma de escribir, en eso no hay dudas posible.
Esta trama la voy a dividir en tres partes: la primera cuando se conocen Fern y Madison (rechazo y rivalidades sobre todo de Fern hacia Madison). El segundo tercio es pura reflexión de ahora si y ahora no (fue la que más me aburrió) y por último el desenlace apresurado de las subtramas y de la historia principal.
Es cierto que el argumento principal es el romance entre Madison y Fern, pero hay una subtramas que enriquecen la lectura y que para mi gusto se resuelven sin darles mucha importancia y de manera fácil, cosa que no ocurrió en el primer libro. Es más el suceso de Hen ni lo llegué a entender, como estando en la cárcel y pudiendo ayudar a su hermano en su defensa, no le dice donde estuvo la noche que se produjo el asesinato, entre otros. Ya os digo, creo que fue un pretexto para crear la historia pero que despachó sin despeinarse.
Los personajes me gustaron todos, quizás Fern con sus inseguridades un poco menos, pero mejora con cada página que pasa. Tanto en el primer como en el segundo libro los secundarios enriquecen la lectura.
En resumen tuve mis altibajos con esta lectura, porque podía haber sido un buen libro pues la materia prima la tenía, pero el autor se centró más en los soliloquios de Fern que aburrían hasta la saciedad.
Aun así creo que puede ser cuestión de gustos y a otras personas les encanten, pues el libro está muy bien escrito.

Madison is the black sheep of his family. He went off to the North and became a citified lawyer. You can guess he and Jeff (who fought for the South) don't get along. Yet, even though he doesn't care for his brothers, he loves them and comes to town to defend his brother from a murder change.
Madison was a interesting contrast to his rough and tumble cowboy brothers (with the exception of Jeff, who is a businessman, and Zac, who is a gambler). He would have been called a metrosexual if he was around in the modern age, although he's all man. It's really interesting that he meets and falls for serious tomboy Fern. He is very offended at her loud-talking, uncouth, and boyish ways. Probably too offended, as in he doth protest too much.
Madison and Fern had great chemistry, along the lines of Jeff and Violet, and Monty and Iris (although mostly they fought like cats and dogs). This also had some good old fashion western action (which I love).
I enjoyed this story, although I wish Madison was less snooty and judgmental about Fern's humble origins. He comes around though. Boy those brothers do fight like cats and dogs (reminding me of my mother's family). I do have to hand it to Mr. Greenwood. He's not afraid to give his characters human traits and frailties, even if they made the characters less sympathetic at times.

1.5 estrellas que he redondeado solo por haber podido terminar la lectura. Aunque por lo pelos. Este segundo libro de la serie Siete novias, ha sido una decepción enorme. El primer libro me costó pero, al final, mereció la pena. No fue el libro de mi vida pero me gustó mucho más de lo que esperaba teniendo en cuenta que la primera vez que intenté leerlo, lo abandoné. No es este el caso.
Se me ha hecho repetitivo, el tira y afloja ha podido conmigo y, encima, faltaban los elementos que salvaron al primer libro del abandono.
Serie participando en las lecturas conjuntas de esta serie. A ver si hay más suerte y este libro es la excepción que confirma que merece la pena seguir con estas lecturas.

I actually was obsessed with this book and it was like the most gripping plot I've ever read but the whole premise was questionable and it wasn't very cute that maddison practically forced himself upon her the first like 3 or 4 times they interacted. But also it was so real when fern caught him kissing another woman and then she slept with him moments after confronting him about it like we've all been there. Anyway this opened my eyes to romance novels and I really want to bury my face in Maddison's chest cuz he looks so sexy on the front cover

I'm a sucker for a good romance with stubborn couples and this is no exception. (I have also discovered that I am a sucker for a good smutty book ahah!)I love the West and the dangerous and rebellious people that inhabit it! (Well I inhabit it too so that would explain my rebelliousness! haha!). I loved the plot, characters, and story in all. Planning on reading the rest of the series! One thing I didn't like-I could not put the book down! I have such a crick in my neck! AWESOME BOOK!

June 11, 2008Leigh Greenwood is a man and his imagniation is absolutely wonderful. I'm over 1/2 way through the series and each book is great. With the exception of the first book all seven brothers show up in each book so far.

Even though I found the heroine a little irritating, it was understandable, considering her past. The hero was intriguing, especially since he was only mentioned in the first book of this series. Some aspects of the story felt a little loose...but for the most part, I really liked it.

I liked this one just as much as the first one. I know I liked Madison more than George and I liked Fern almost as much as Rose. On to Monty!

Fern es el segundo libro, de la saga siete novias, escritas por Leigh Greenwood.
Esta historia narra el reencuentro de Madison Randolph con sus hermanos después de ocho largos años, desde el día en que se marchó de Texas a Boston, para convertirse en abogado.
El propósito de su regresó es poder liberar a su hermano Hen, qué es falsamente acusado de un crimen que no cometio. Pero lo que nunca hubiera imaginado era un encuentro inesperado con un amor salvaje e indomable.
Fern Sproull es la mujer más necia y testaruda de todo Kansas (y lo digo yo, que puedo llegar a ser similar a ella en algunos aspectos), pero que detrás de aquello que ella demuestra ser, se esconde una verdadera y dulce mujer, que derribar todos los obstáculos y miedos para obtener el amor de uno de los abogados más guapos de Boston.
En este libro se presenta a Madison Randolph, el único hermano que no aparecía el anterior libro.
Me encantó que se presentaron los personajes anteriores como parte de esta nueva historia. Me emocioné demasiado cuando aparecieron, ya que los personajes anteriores habían sido encantadore (a su estilo) y volverlos a ver en este libro con diferentes actitudes a las del primero, fue muy emocionante. Además la nueva introducción de personajes con las características de una personalidad única fue excelente.
Fue una historia muy entretenida, ya que se pudo conocer los sucesos que transcurrieron en la vida de Madison después de haberse marchado, porque a pesar de que no estaba en el primer libro, él seguía siendo parte de la familia y del círculo 7.
Me pareció único que la protagonista no fuera convencional, sino que ella poseía un carácter y era muy realista con respecto a los complejos que cualquier mujer puede llegar a tener por diversas circunstancias.
Me gusta mucho esta saga y seguiré con el resto de libros, para poder seguir conociendo a las siete novias que ataron los corazones de los salvajes Randolph.

No soy de hacer reseñas por aquí y menos de libros que no me han gustado, pero necesito expresar mi disgusto.
Cosas por las que no me ha gusto el libro:
🌾 Ha tratado temas muy delicados bastante regular (seguramente por el año en el que está escrito el libro), pero que aún así no es excusa.
🌾 No se si es porque es escritor (hombre) y no escritora, pero siento que los conflictos y las forma de llevar a los personajes femeninos deja mucho que desear.
🌾 Las relaciones de pareja (tanto este como el anterior) son super planas, poco profundas, tienen 0 química los protagonistas y siento que se enamoras por gracia De Dios y no porque esté bien llevada la trama romántica.
🌾 No soporto a ninguno de los dos protagonistas.
🌾 La trama principal (que es el encarcelamiento de Hen) se olvida por completo en casi la mitad del libro.
Sinceramente me pienso seriamente si seguir la serie, pese a que el primero me gustó y me encanta como se tratan las relaciones familiares y las interacciones entre los hermanos y la familia en sí.
Si lo sigo es porque el siguiente es Monty y es de mis personajes favoritos.
En fin, hasta aquí mi charla sobre este libro.

🌾 La trama principal (que es el encarcelamiento de Hen) se olvida por completo en casi la mitad del libro.
Sinceramente me pienso seriamente si seguir la serie, pese a que el primero me gustó y me encanta como se tratan las relaciones familiares y las interacciones entre los hermanos y la familia en sí.
Si lo sigo es porque el siguiente es Monty y es de mis personajes favoritos.

I really enjoy Leigh Greenwood’s writing, but sometimes it leans too heavily into realism for my taste. I appreciated that the brothers weren’t perfect—they were flawed and damaged in different ways, which made them more human. However, I struggled to feel the deep love and bond between them. Even their interactions with each other's children came across as rough and emotionally distant, lacking the warmth I was hoping for.
Most of the couples were just okay for me. Aside from George and Rose, none of the pairings left a lasting impression. That said, I did appreciate that each couple faced their own challenges and earned their happily-ever-after. It was also satisfying to revisit the previous brothers and see how their lives have progressed and how their families are growing.

I never thought I would say this more than once on one of my favorite author's book, but this book is a mess for me. Hero and heroine seems like never cease to fight. They constantly arguing which really exhausted me both my patience and energy. There are like few pages when the hero and heroine don't argue.... Then there's the hero kissing another woman, his explanation and defense towards his action didn't satisfy me. I feel cheated, and I agree with Fern I can't imagine my man kissing another woman just because they are friends and he is thankful, spare me, Fern have feelings and has the right to get hurt and I am amaze that she had forgave him easily. I am not saying she should hate him eternally, but he should have mindful of his actions toward other woman/women.

I really like this book even though I don't agree with some things like Madison abandoning his brothers and running off to Boston. I know he hated Texas but he should have stayed for his mother and brothers. I also don't like Fern hatred of Texans blind her to the real killer's identity. Madison is a bit of a snob considering Fern's background especially since his family became broke because of his father's gambling. But considering all of that, this is a really good story about two different people (A Boston lawyer and tomboy) fall for each other but not without some difficulties.

Honestly not a huge fan of this one which is disappointing as I really liked Rose. I just can’t like Madison—he leaves his little brothers to fend for themselves and doesn’t talk to his family for years and just expects them to be ok with it—no apology or explanation given. And he is worse to Fern spending so much time telling her she isn’t a woman because she doesn’t dress like one. I wanted to slap him so many times. Especially when he disregarded wha happened to her 8 years ago like it was nothing. I wanted to read the other books but now I’m hesitant...

The second book in this series was just as exciting as the first. Madison had left the ranch after their mother died and went to Boston, where he's now a lawyer. He comes to Albiline to help get Hen, one of his twin brothers, out of jail. He's been accused of murder.
Fern is a young woman who hides behind men's clothes. Madison and Fern go at it constantly when they first meet. She's sure Hen killed her cousin.

Me gusto demasiado la historia de Fern y Madison ella con sus pantalones todo lo que una mujer de esa época no sería el tan refinado viviendo una buena vida y dejando a su familia y la granja de lado, me encanto la historia ver a Rose y a George y al pequeño William Henry ❤️❤️❤️ me encanto verlos tan felices y hasta a los otros hermanos me están gustando mucho continuaré con Iris!

Este me ha gustado menos, se me hizo un poquito pesado la historia de estos personajes, pero aún así me tiene enganchadísima estos hermanos.
Creo que iba a con las expectativas muy altas, ya que el primero me encantó. Este se me hizo un poquito cuesta arriba en algunos momentos, y mucho relleno en algunas partes.
