This is Zeke's and Hawk's story. I enjoyed this one more than the others in the series with the exception of Buck. Just a really good story of trust, acceptance and love

I knew this book was going to be low on the list because 1) It turns two characters' love stories into one book; 2) I knew there wasn't going to be a Black woman as the main love interest (Josie is BIRACIAL. It is NOT the same.); 3) The isolation from the family. 4) Zeke and Josie are so COMBATIVE, that it took away from the sweetness of Hawk and Suzette. EXHAUSTING!) 5) Not to mention, Zeke and Hawk are so "old", and the author NEVER mentions the ages of the dancers, so I know they are young. That just made it even more infuriating. I'll scream racism over this one till the cows come home.

As of now, my rankings are:

1. Matt
2. Pete
3. Sean
4. Buck
5. Jake
6. Chet
7. Ward
8. Drew
9. Zeke / Hawk
10. Luke

Entertaining read with the plot taking place in southeastern Arizona in 1888. The author, Leigh Greenwood, had four well developed characters proving adolescent years have a large impact on behavior later in life. (1) Zeke was a slave until age 14. (2) Hawk was half-breed Cherokee, and upon his mother's death at a young age, his Cherokee father consider Hawk to be a spy for white people. (3) Josie was a child of a white slave owner who married her mother, a former slave. Josie's mother died when she was a teenager and her father ultimately sent Josie to her uncle's house. Josie ran away from her uncle's home due to abusive treatment. (4) Suzette was raised in Quebec society, but once her mother died when Suzette was a teenager, her stepfather married her off to the first available male. The forced marriage ended after a year due to the husband dying of cholera. Storyline of book was the four characters overcoming their past to live in the present.
