Such a good writer with such potential but sadly enough the publisher is B grade.
It publishes escapism in the form of porn masquerading as corn.By
page 3 we can see how the story goes.2 oversexed high born budding strumpets trying hard to lose their maidenheads to the nearest stableboy or chance met scoundrel on a road before they come back to England and marry suitably. Duke's daughters -so lack of chastity doesn't mean much.Which editor considered this theme romantic?
Here is a sample of the proof reading She would kiss him them too. Yeah,this heroine has found out that a scalawag is a lord so the lady has to simper and say 'Excuse me.' 20th century Yank,is she?
Can't manage any more .Getmeouttahere. Would have enjoyed this book if I could be assured that it won't have 250 pages out of 300 describing their search for affairs.Those who have spent 4 hours wading through unrealistic so called adventures and like them can appreciate the good writing sans that thin streak of erotica.

This is a fairly decent book. It's well written, and the characters are well developed, and the plot is interesting. I wish that they'd done more with her sister (who I wanted to see pay for being a little brat and getting her sister in trouble) but I guess in 300 pages or less there's only so much she could do. Worth reading, though, and good for a rainy day.

Lady Mary Farren is a sensible woman with a scholarly bent and a love of art. Sadly, she’s spent years shut up in the country keeping house for her father, the Duke of Aston, all the while trying to protect her amorous younger sister Diana from total ruin. All she has to look forward to is her upcoming Grand Tour of France and Italy. What she doesn’t expect is to be saddled with her sister, who has no taste for art. Nor does she realize that her first purchase in Calais–an unfashionable fifteenth-century painting of an angel–would draw her to the attention of two different men. One is the ne’er-do-well sixth son of an Irish peer, Lord Fitzgerald, who has few scruples in his pursuit of fortune. The other is an implacable enemy who has absolutely no scruples in his quest to attain the painting.

For a mills & boons book, this really was a Great historical adventure novel. Lady Mary goes to France for a tour of old portraits and statues and art, something she's fond of. She's brilliant and beautiful but usually overshadowed by her younger, beautiful,seductive, promiscuous sister.
In France, Mary wanders into a store and falls in love with an archaic painting of an angel but the store keeper refuses to sell it to her. Lord John, already present, but standing un-noticed by them with a keen interest in Lady Mary, steps forward to begin an encounter that Mary would never forget.
A painting that cursed all who owned it, a reckless sister, a stern maid and an Irish Lord with a mysterious past was all the adventure that Lady Mary had ever wanted.
