Got the feeling I'd read it before - the monarch butterfly book. All the same themes, circumstances, location are present. Its obviously something that has really got under her skin that she keeps returning to it, to re-explore it. That shows how much it matters. And, that she (and we) are still trying to work it out. I love Barbara Kingsolver's style of writing, but in this book she uses her characters as soapboxes to espouse her environmental and evolutionary opinions. I am not really a fan of using literature in such a blatant way. However, her descriptive writing, character development, and plot were really well done.
Wonderful characters, lovely writing, and a plot that was so well-done that it was hard to believe it wasn't a true story. Struggling farmers in Appalachia aren't hugely interesting to me, but I enjoyed the book enough to finally get around to cracking The Poisonwood Bible.
