Higurashi: Kizuna (Bonds) by Ryukishi07

This one was okay.

The Kizuna manga is a loose adaptation of the Advanced Story from the Console Arcs--it provides the readers with the basic information on the characters, including their motivations and relationships, but not much beyond it. By taking bits from separate arcs, it tries to form a cohesive story, which unfortunately doesn't work as greatly as it was supposed to.

For example, Console Arcs offer a greater chunk of information on Minai sisters' backstory; explores Chisato's dilemma on her feelings towards Akira and her desire to make Natsumi happy as well as the latter's role in her life; gives a longer time period needed for Tomoe and Natsumi to bond as "sisters"; closes the mystery behind the murder of Minai's parents; builds a solid connection to the original plot of Higurashi and expands the characterization of some of the OG cast and does much, much more.

Natsumi's storyline in Kizuna works fine but doesn't provide loop accumulation from the previous iterations that helped her to overcome inner demons (like it was in OG arcs). Whereas, Tomoe merely exist as a tool to help Natsumi and doesn't have much progression on her own. It's sad because I really like her character. Which is why I strongly recommend checking the Console Arcs for the bigger picture.
