For a non-fiction book this read very well. It was intended for non-scientific types and the author did a good job keeping the reader interested. Frankly, I learned much about the process of setting up longitude on our maps and globes..something, I am sure many of us take for granted. As a lover of maps and all things relating to geography, I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. That being said, I was also glad it wasn't any longer, the length was perfect~!

A well-researched and written treatise on 18th century developments in horology that changed the world. Eloquent and elegant. The illustrated edition (which I read) makes it all come together beautifully.

Interesting facts about navigation and the personalities that got us where we are today. It reads almost like a novel.
